I had my left crank arm get loose due to it getting mangled where it connects on to the main bearing. I had tried just tightening it down as well as using Loctite on it to hold it in but it was better to repair it by replacing it with a new one (it has been great ever since). I wanted to share how easy it is to do this repair yourself as this can be a common repair on bicycles and e-bikes (like my Qualisports Dolphin you see in this video (video review here: • Qualisports Dolphin Fo... )

@@EricDIY Nice video. I have this exact same problem with an E-bike. I realize that this problem grows much worse when you bike with it being loose. You need to fasten the nut tightly immediately at the very first moment you notice it being loose or you end up having to replace the arm.
Having the same issuer on my beater bike. I’m just gonna try thread locker for now. Thanks for the idea.
Probably won't last but you could try
Thank you SOO MUCH MANN!!🙌🙏

Thank you for this video! Your video confirmed for me that I had a wallowed crank arm. I had tightened the mounting bolt with gracious torque once I discovered the bolt was not torqued well. This almost got rid of the popping (knocking), but not quite. Because I bought the e-bike in February, I called the company for support under warranty. They have sent out to me a new crank set. No squabble at all.

Appreciate the video - and the time and effort it took to make. Saved me and I'm sure other people even more time and effort even money- trying to fix my own/their bikes. RN my bike IS my transportation as I await fixing my jeep. So my livelihood depends on it. xo

Tip: you can use brake cleaner to clean the nuts and bolts and wipe it properly.
Best way to remove a Crank Arm without the "Special tool" is to use a open end wrench (None Adjustable). Slide behind Crank and pull wrench outwards gently. Do this in a few spots and she should pop right off after a little Mucsle Power is applied 💪🤟
How would u do this if the square bolt has no screw opening
It might be under a cap. There should be a way to the extract it
I have watched now and I will try and say
Did it work
DID IT WORK? ARE YOU ALIVE
Mm I am alive
It's working well
But why asking like this
My bike squeaks while I’m peddling. It’s somewhat embarrassing. I was going to spray wd40 but now I’m wondering does it need replacing since it wobbles a lot
Sounds like you need to replace or at least try to tighten the crank arm down
Thanks I took it to the local bike shop and he said it looks like it needs replacing but since he didn’t have the part in stock he tightened it. The squeaking was even worse the next day but today it’s gone. Thank at least I know what the fix will be if it returns.
What can I do I my bmx bike feel like it changing gear when I peddle or something and I tryed to tighten the bolt but the bolt is stripped what do I do to tighten it ??
Get a new bolt and replace it. If it has a derailleur, make sure it is adjusted properly. If the crank arm is loose after replacing the bolt, try replacing the crank arm.
@@EricDIY thnx
My stock crank arm started to loose then i tighten it up again and it will loose for a very short period of time then i bought a new crankset bcos the stock was worn out but then i still have the same problem with the crank arm its starting to loose again even tho im tighten it up
Did you use loctite? Is the screw the original and long enough to fully go into the crank?
Do the left crank arm suppose to be tighten on all the way
It should be like I showed it in the video
im having this problem for a long time, always when i ride its starts getting lose after 1km, ive change from bb, crank arm, pedal, crank bolt but it still getting lose, any advice? i even tried super glueing it, but later got loose after 4km. the square that connects to bb is getting smudged and make the arm slightly slanted
If the square is rouding, buy a new crank arm like I did here. If rounded, it's past repair and you need to replace it.

when i put pressure on my pedals it rotates but doesnt move the bike, any help?
Take it off and see if anything is broken where it attaches. It could also be the bearing inside being broken.
Do we need a new arm
If the arm is damaged like I showed in the video, I would replace it. If it hasn't started to warp yet, you might get away with the old one. If it is warped, it will most likely keep becoming loose.
my crank is actually wobbling. how do i fix it. my bike shop is telling me $160 to repair it.
Probably have to get the bearing replaced if it's not the arm. $160 sounds about right. As far as doing it yourself, there are videos on CZcams but you also need some tools to push the bearing out.
@@EricDIY its not the bearings but the part with the teeth that is bent.
What torque?
You’ll need a wrench with a long handle
This way you can get a pretty good torch on there. The quick tool will not be enough.
You meant torque? I didn't have a.pronlem with the quick tool but I can see getting more torque with a longer handle wrench
Need a washer
There is no washer on this bike
Replacing the entire bike is not an option at this moment
