Those bearings are awesome. Just a heads up, Malibu’s use 3/16 bearings, the 5mm bearings will work just fine but their inner diameter is slightly larger by .011
Got my first Malibu today and skiffed it. Thanks to your epic struggle it only took me about 5 minutes. Amazing upgrade! Hey did you guys known that the knife (the pointy end) is a tad sharp?!?! Who knew!
Just serviced a William Henry button lock a few nights ago and had similar issues. Button locks are a pain in the ass to reassemble. If you have big fingers it's particularly challenging.
I found it easiest to take and put the blade and the button on at the same time, kinda slot the button into it's notch, put the spring in and put them both on at once, then hold the blade tang/pivot area down until I got the scale on.
Just a tip from peanut gallery: put the spring and button on first, slightly depress it as you put the blade on. If you keep pressure on the blade it won’t let the button lift and allow the button to pop off or lose its proper place while you put on the opposing scale. Cheers 🍻
They are all sold out right now. I’m very interested in feeling the difference. Do you remember what the shipping was on these? And how did you measure to order the correct size?
Hey man. Its like $13 i think total for 1 set. I just order a bunch when they are back in stock. U can use calipers to measure, but I just bought all different kinds and learned so you guys don’t have to. The Malibu takes the 5MM pivot 1/16 size. There is also a spreadsheet out there that has a bunch of knives and which size they take on it. Message me on IG, ill send u the link and I can send u a set if they are still out of stock
@@LeftyEDC Coincidentally, Neeves did an unboxing and he got a bunch of those from Gillian knives. In the box the maker sent, he loaned Jared some kind of measuring tool and some general info. This whole bearing thing has me curious. Thanks for the offer but I’ll make a purchase later. I’m going to send OCD some knives to anodize first.
The pivot and the 2 screws in the back are hex the pocket clip and stop pin screws are t6 on the Malibu I just got in 3/21. It will still come apart using a t6 bit on all of them but they are definitely hex.
@@johnallison1804 Exactly right, I have seen several CZcams disassembly videos for the Malibu where they are using a T6 for everything like this one. It takes 1/16 hex screws for the pivot and body screws and T6 for the stop pin screws and pocket clip screws.
Hey man, new subscriber and that was brutal 😂 but entertaining. So nice job lol. And im sure you wont be disassembling the malibu again any time soon but pro tip: yes you have to put the blade and buttin assembly on at the same time. You even said it at one point and time 😆
It sound like something was rattling after reassembly when you were sort shaking the knife and talking? Are you still hearing that? Thanks for sharing your install!
Good to hear cause I’ve ordered these for 4 different knives after watching several reviews. They all helped me be confident in picking them up! Thanks again 🙏🏼
Why and how could those bearings be better than what the legendary Protech would use? Just curious. Skiffs look just like civivi bearings. Always hear about them but how could a company like protech not have these?
Protech uses steel caged steel bearings. Its just a fact that ceramic is smoother. Civivi uses the same style bearings as protech but they are brass caged and ceramic balls. Much better. Skiffs have a solid cage and more balls leading to more surface contact with the ceramic and hence making them smoother and just better. Protech is good at making knives, but they go cheap on bearings. 🤷♂️
Great video! I just got a Malibu and now you got me wanting the skiff's..I wonder how long will take before they come back in stock. I guess I'll be stalking his site everyday lol.
The bearings are made a bit better. Not caged the way the other are, they are one solid piece of phosphorus bronze with the bearings in it. Check out their website. Its definitely a luxury though
The caged factory bearings are steel, and these are ceramic. Rust vs. not rusting. The cages bearings also “can” hold dirt and debris causing the action to feel sluggish but only if they are oiled too much.
Oh my god this is the most painful thing to watch you do great at commentary probably should just do that…. knife disassembly and assembly does not appear to be your forte … although you’re fumbling of everything does insight a lot of yelling on my part so I guess maybe it’s for engagement purposes 😁
Always good to see a professional at work
😆
Those bearings are awesome. Just a heads up, Malibu’s use 3/16 bearings, the 5mm bearings will work just fine but their inner diameter is slightly larger by .011
Yea i learned that right after I made the video. But they are still working great!
Kzoo kid Williams I was about to say 3/16. Funniest disassembly video ever!

Dude, your disassembly videos are becoming legendary!!
😂. Not in a good way though
LOL Kev plus button lock disassembly makes for top notch entertainment!
😂
I don't know what it is about that knife but it's so gorgeous. The handle looks really comfortable too
It's your mascot Kev... You called it a Benchmade Malibu! Haha
I know 😂
Now this video was worth the price of admission!! Keep em coming!
I love madpow hanks. Maddy has the most amazing service.
Yea shes awesome
Not sure why watching you struggle with that button is so satisfying. Thanks for the video.
😂
This was hell to watch, the blade and plunger have to go in at the same time!!!!! LOL

Exactly
I like the fact you come across as a normal dude. Good show!
I am more than normal. I am idiot with a cellphone haha. Thanks for watching.
I get the biggest kick out of these. Friggin hilarious!!
Thanks brother
I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. Doing PA proud, man!

See to me that is all luck. Just wing it and I’ll get there eventually 😂

Keep watching 😆. This one is old. Ive taken apart like 5 more on the channel. That is the method i use 😂. Thank you for the comment.
Right on! Skiff's absolutely "ROCK!!!" :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I thoroughly enjoy watching you you keep it real and also funny
🤣🤣🤣 I lost it when you were fucking around and then it popped out! Outstanding!
Haha. I knew that would happen
Cool Video.... Going to upgrade some bearings in my knives. Thanks again.
Awesome!
I needed a good laugh. Sweet upgrade. Maddie is awesome.
I watched you disassemble your Hobart Sumo as well and those button locks seen to whoop your ass! LMAO!!
Yes sir. They are finicky for sure
You said benchmade malibu haha 😂😂 cool vid

Dude first time here, thanks Neeves for bringing me here! This guy is nuts 😂 I love it! And yea I know what you mean by the skid marks.
Nice. Thanks for sharing 👍
U went in the way back machine
@@LeftyEDC I just got a Malibu.. I'm way behind
The Mordax actully uses all Torx Screws, where the Malibu uses hex screws in a couple places.. not sure if u touched on that
Where are the hex screws? I only used torx to get it apart and back together. I have a Mordax coming, so I will check that as well

The skiff spread sheet calls for the 3/16 1/16 bearings not the 5mm. Makes me wonder if they both fit
I think thats wrong man. These fit perfectly and match the stock bearings.
@@LeftyEDC its true, although the 5mm will fit, the 3/16 1/16 are the proper bearings for the malibu
this was the most entertaining disassembly video ive ever watched, subbed!
Thanks man
Best Disassemble video I seen 😂
It sound like something was rattling after reassembly when you were sort shaking the knife and talking? Are you still hearing that? Thanks for sharing your install!
No there wasn’t any rattle i heard. And i had the knife like that til last week when i sent it to get modded.
Good to hear cause I’ve ordered these for 4 different knives after watching several reviews. They all helped me be confident in picking them up! Thanks again 🙏🏼
All of your tabletop videos should henceforth be known as Knife Jackassery HAHAHA. Also I think Shabazz used to live in Michigan.
Well thats one weird ass Michigan accent
Take the stop pin off and it's easy. Notice the cut out in the blade that would line up with the plunger if you rotate the blade up.
The wiping till you see no brown part killed me😭😭😭
Haha forgot about that 😂
Just found one online. Also got a blue Pro Tech Runt 5 for a fifth pocket match.
I want to take the spring out of my protech cqc7 and throw bearings in so it’s a button lock exclusively. Do you think this size will work?
I am not sure that will work to be honest. How would it open?
Nice! Just got my Malibu about 2 hours ago, was curious how tricky it was to put them back together, I won’t be sober when I do it either ;)
Once u know its easy. Watch my other videos on it or recent mordax one.
I'm confused. On Reddit they suggested 3/16”mm pivot, 1/16” 11 ball for Skiffs, but you used the 5mm version. What should I get? Thanks
Apparently the 3/16 is correct. I just tried what i had and they work great so i guess either/or but protech will tell u 3/16. Hope that helps man.
@@LeftyEDC Appreciate the response man! 3/16 it is.

How about skiff bearings in a cogent?
U could do that. 5mm 1/16 id guess. 97% sure im right
