- The defeat of the so-called Islamic State has left Sunni Muslim populations crushed and Shia Muslim military forces victorious, although only after terrible sacrifices. BBC Correspondent Feras Kilani returns to the battlegrounds to assess the human cost and ask whether this is really the end for extreme jihadism in Iraq and Syria.
This film is made up of footage shot throughout Kilani's coverage since the Battle of Mosul in 2014. This rare view exposes the harsh and unforgiving reality of war and occupation, and the lengths that special correspondents will go to tell their story.
This Documentary was filmed in the course of 2 years, While covering the battle for Mosul, correspondent Feras Kilani narrowly cheated death, after the convoy he was advancing with was targeted by a VBIED.

I don't fully understand this war, all the groups involved, the ideologies, or the impact it has had on its own members and other nations. I wish I understood more. I wish I knew how to help. As an Iraq War veteran, I really wish the best for the Iraqi people. . . Stop saying down with America... Generally, most Americans are good people... Very caring and giving. I grew up Christian so I believe in treating all of mankind with dignity and respect.... I went to Iraq in the hopes that maybe I could make a difference.... Most Veterans believe that we should have stayed out of Iraq... Our war was with Osama Bin Laden and we wanted him dead...... It breaks my heart to see what Iraq has degenerated into since 1991. In the 1980s, despite a devastating war against Iran, Iraq was a prosperous country with a large middle class and a GDP per capita that was equal to that of Australia. Now it is a failed state. We can argue over who is to blame for this situation; Saddam and his supporters or the United States or both. But I suspect the answer means little to the Iraqis who have had to endure endless war and instability. I feel very sorry for the people of Iraq.

When America needed Saddam to fight America's proxy war against Iran in the 80s, Washington turned a blind eye to his human rights violations (like gassing Iraqi Kurds in 1988). Then America used him as a pretext to go to war against Iraq. IMO, America is mostly to blame for what has happened in Iraq.

There are many sunnis who don't support Isis but there were sunnis in the city of MOSUL who supported them and welcomed them and wanted the Islamic Caliphate...many of the supporters of ISIS were people who either use to work for Saddam Hussein's government or people who loved the Saddam Hussein regime.

As someone who has followed the war step by step, day by day throughout the entire 3 years of the liberation, ISF used less force than what was needed. ISF suffered severe attrition to keep the civilian death toll at a bare minimum. Many security experts even compared this complex urban warfare to Stalingrad, and titled it the toughest battle since WWII. Others even called it the most humane operation ever conducted by any government.
I remember the countless of videos of local journalists embedded with the forces showing the tens of dozens of female suicide bombers in West Mosul's old city; the last stretch of urban land to be liberated.
These civilians who are attacking the military for its efforts have no sense of morality or honor. As cruel as it may sound, these people are the ones who first accepted ISIS rule and housed them.
