@Global Communications to be honest I’ve fitted 100s of gates kits and never had a problem.. there are certain brands I’d avoid but I’ve always had confidence in gates
Sir, you deserve medal. Greatings from Poland, thank you.
Thank you too!
By far one of the best YT videos yet in regards to this maintenance item - Superb work and thank you for putting this all together. I am actually excited about performing this job on my son's 2013 VW Passat TDI SEL.
Thanks for the comments , much appreciated as a small YT channel 😃 glad it will help you 👍
Well said.
The best properly detailed guide I've seen for these engines on CZcams. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it! thanks for the comments, much appreciated as a small CZcams channel 👍👌😃
Excellent detail and close up shots. Thank you for taking the time to explain so clearly👍
You are very welcome, thanks for the comment, much appreciated.. always nice to get some feedback 👍👌😃
My water pump failed ay 119K in my 2015 Passat TDI (NMS, USA). I did my water pump and timing belt last weekend by following your CZcams video. Your CZcams video is the best and easiest one relates to the repair in my car. When installing the new timing belt the easiest way for me was is putting the belt to the water pump at last. Step by step procedure explained in the video was very help full. Thank you very much buddy.
Nice one , glad to hear it👍👍 thanks
Going to get my apprentices to watch this in preparation for their first one. Top job lads. Brilliantly put across.
Thanks for the comment , nice to hear it 👌 hopefully it helps them 👍👍
@@diydaly Some feedback for you lads; both of them done one each this week from start to finish, and I didn't get shouted to come and help once. Outstanding video indeed!
@@bigbill74scots nice one , really rewarding to hear that! Thanks for the update mate 👌👍
Fantastic video. Been ‘off the tools’ for over 30 years but always kept up to date with modern motoring and kept my tool kit updated. Now retired this video inspired me to give it a go - brilliant. Cam belt top cover a bit fiddly off and on but the video was a massive help - thank you 👍
Nice one! Glad it helped 👍 yeah that top cover is about the worst bit of the job!!ha
Thank you so much for producing this video - it was extremely clear and easy to follow. I was able to carry out the water pump / timing belt RR on my 2.0 TDI MK7 Golf and saved over AU$1,200.00. I don't have a lift, but as you said, it's quite doable at ground level. Thanks again mate, great work!

Thanks for the comment, glad to help 😃👌👍
did you source the timing belt parts and pin kit locally? I'm about to this job on my 2015 Octavia in Sydney.
Perfect! Great video! Thank you very much! Made it much easier knowing what tools were needed and little pointers regarding the exhaust sensor and which way round to tension the belt.
Replaced the timing belt and water pump on my wifes 2013 8V 2.0tdi A3.
Only issue I ran into was after tensioning and turning the engine over manually after 4 turns of the crank the cam and fuel pump were half a tooth out of timing. So I took the belt off, repinned it at the timing marks and then put the belt on again, retensioned it again and manually turned over the engine again to test and everything stayed lined up. I must've put the belt on a tooth out somewhere on the first go.
Anyway 10/10! Thanks for such a great, informative, clear video!
👍👍 great to hear! Always nice to hear positive feedback
You guys are Phenomenal!! Bar none, the best documented how-to I have seen! This will help when I do my 2015 TDI, here across the Pond.
Thanks very much for the comments! much appreciated as a small YT channel 👍👌😃
Great video mate! VW are quoting £850 for this work! Your video has made me confident I can do it myself. Thank you for taking the time to show how to do this.
Glad I could help mate 👍
What a brilliant video, very well to put together. Now I understand why my garage is charging me so much to do this
Thanks for the comment! Feedback much appreciated 👍👌
Thanks for the great how-to, made the job really easy for me 👍
I just put on a Gates kit. Tension adjuster broke even with finger tight nut. I see Gates claim it is user fault, and they have investigated the problem and the nut has to be held still while setting tension. In my opinion it is a crap part made out of some sort of cast material and not real steel. Since it is my own car i just used some pliers on the broken part instead of the hex tool.
Thankyou very much 👍😁 tips much appreciated!
This is the best how to video I have watched any where. Made the work on my 2015 Jetta much easier!!
Nice one , thanks alot for the comments , much appreciated as a small YT channel 😁👍
Hi, i took the plunge and decided to change my own cam belt (and my depth of mechanics doesn't go past changing a wheel). Bought a Gates kit, everything went superb thanks to your excellent video. VW specialist garage quoted me £650 & VW Servicing £850!! Only thing i've noticed is the air is not so hot going into the cabin after refilling the coolant. Thanks so much for your video.
Nice one, glad to hear your got it all sorted 👍👍
Many thanks DIYDaly, I’ve just completed this on my 2016 Skoda Octavia 1.6TDI, there no way I would have been able to it without this great content you’ve created.

this video has given me the incentive to do my 2017 passat, the parts are ordered and I am re watching your video to make sure I do it correctly. the VW price for doing this job is 789 POUNDS, june 2022. Thank you.
@@tonnaboy1 glad it will help Keith .. you’ll have no trouble just take your time with it 👌👍
Thanks for making this guide, it proved really helpful while doing the same job today on my Seat Leon FR TDI. Really appreciate it 👍
Thanks ! Glad to help 👍
The reason why the book says to loosen the camshaft bolts and pump centre nut is for proper belt tension to be achieved without altering the timing.
👍
I'm worked in a Fiat service, and before this time im never worked in this generation of TDI engine's. Your video is a great help for my job. Thx.
Glad to help , thanks for the comment 👌👍
Excellent job, definitely saving this video. Don't think I even need to bother browsing to find any other videos for this job. Thanks for adding the torque specs through out the video.
Nice one thanks for the comment, much appreciated 👍👌
Successfully completed this yesterday, now I have a p2456 code. Reading up on this a lot of people have experienced this after a timing belt and water pump change. Some folks had a differential pressure sensor melt down. Oddly enough the sensor that melted, when I went to disconnect the hose to get it out of the way, it was already disconnected.
Not sure what's going one here. Some replaced the sensor but then they had to like calibrate it or something with vcds which I don't have.
Any advice?
Glad you got it done! ive never had that issue my self, the pressure switches are obviously near the belt, strange that you had one disconnected , its should have been throwing up a fault previously.. if you do replace it they are meant to be reset using a diagnostic machine , a cheap one wont do it either.. id reconnect everything a give it a good drive see if the fault clears, you really to to get it checked on a decent diagnostic machine to see what the sensors are reading
Just wanted to say this is one of the best step by step guides. Thank you 🙏
Glad it helped.. thanks for the comments! feedback always appreciated as a small channel 👌😃👍
Done one on a GTD GOLF today that bloody top cover 😫 mine had 2x DPF pipes running along the cover took the sensor out of the exhaust even managed to remove that little heat shield from the cover still bloody tight otherwise not a bad job.
@@kevinpalmer7452 lol yeah the cover is pretty must the worst bit!
Superb!! What a great, detailed video. My car has just gone into the garage for same job on a Mk7 Golf 2013 2.0 TDI. Years ago, I`d done a cambelt change myself, but now, I let someone else with tools, knowledge, time and confidence do it. Great to see the amount of work that goes into such, in essence, a simple job i.e. remove a belt and put it back on. So time consuming to replace a belt!! Thanks for the video. Much better than any channel on TV!!!
Thanks a lot for your comments! feedback is always appreciated as a small CZcams channel .. 👍👌😃
What is the mileage you replace your timing belts? I have the same model

@@diydaly question for ya, at the part where you have the belt on with the left side with a bit of slack; right side taut, I performed the check of two full rotations and then reinserted my pins. The pin on the fuel pump was hard to get in this time around, before it had slipped in no problem.
I’m afraid I somehow ended up one tooth off, although I left that pin in the entire time.
car was seeming to run and drive fine but today got a CEL and a P0014 code.
Any advice? Take it all off and put the pins in so everything is dead on, and readjust the belt?

Thanks for the video, this the by far the most detailed video of timing belt and water pump change I have ever seen in CZcams. You even went through the plastic tray removal steps one by one as for dyi person even this part can be challenging sometimes. Also the bleeding as well.

Good video but one mistake you need to losen the cam shaft pulley and fuel pump pulley so they move in their slots before puting tension on the belt. Turn them clock wise as far as they go in slots before fitting belt that way when tensioning they move left. The way you done it you are only tensioning one side of belt. How this makes sense

Best timing belt video I’ve ever watched, perfect pal 👍
One quick question, what water pump would I need for 2014 Octavia 2.0 tdi DSG
👍👍 thanks! Can vary but I’d go for a gates kit with the bypass water pump ..
Just in the process of doing this and I figured I'd warn people that the newer gates tensioners are very weak. Mine snapped at the hex key part with minimal warning while trying to tension. I tried replicating the circumstances with the original tensioner (also gates) and I had to put in a LOT of force too get it to break. Bought a replacement from VW made by litens which looks to be a much beefier design. Just FYI for anyone doing this.
Thanks for the info
This time belt is like new. I think that these are strong and solid materials that can cover over 200,000 km. no problems. only some external influence or malfunction can damage and break it. and that can happen with the new belt you put on yesterday.
Thanks for the comment
