  • Wise Dan became the first two-time winner of the Ricoh Woodbine Mile (Can-IT) when he romped to victory Sept. 15 in track-record time over the Toronto track's turf course as the shortest-priced favorite in the race's 17 renewals.
With jockey John Velazquez aboard, the defending United States Horse of the Year won his ninth consecutive race for owner/breeder Morton Fink and trainer Charles LoPresti, who won the Woodbine Mile for the third straight year.
It was the fourth win in the the race for Velazquez, most of any rider, while LoPresti tied Hall of Famers Bobby Frankel and Neil Drysdale for most training victories.
Wise Dan, who surpassed $5 million in career earnings with his 18th lifetime win in 25 starts, was timed in 1:31.75 over firm turf. It eclipsed the mark of Royal Regalia, who turned in a 1:31.84 clocking on July 1, 2004.
"He's a dream come true," LoPresti told TVG afterward. "He makes us very proud. What a wonderful horse!"

Frankel perhaps might argue with that.

Wise Dan won this renewal even easier than he won last year's. He set a new track record in this race I heard them saying on TVG.

Frankel was a monster no doubt on Turf but this animal is the most versatile animal to ever wear hair. He loved the grass and rarely if ever got excited and just relaxed no matter his position in the race. The ability to relax under such a powerful stride made it a no brainer for Velas to rate him to the wire. A nose a neck a length etc. at the wire made no difference. He did not have to win by 31 ;-) This horse commanded himself to be in front at the end with nothing left in front but a empty road.
He must have known who he was and what he could do whenever he wanted to do it. Must have made his connections have conniptions at times while winking at his competition.
I believe, and we will never know, that WD would have unsettled a well lathered exhausted Frankel at the wire who ran every race full out under a strong hold...but not let us peg down a true super Champion in Frankel, how could anyone in their right mind..... but, if any horse was his equal or a nudge above on grass it would have been Wise Dan.

Not wishing to rain on the parade but the British bred pair are really not up to this level of completion.Dimension was a nice h'capper and Trade Storm is an uprated h'capper on the verge of top class .He won a weak Group2(if there is such a thing!!)in Dubai but gets a spanking when in with the better horses. He is a gorgeous looking horse who seems to run for the place money.I think more worthy rivals will show up by Breeders Cup time..
