1992 Coaching Club American Oaks
Turnback The Alarm made it two in a row at Belmont Saturday, scoring a convincing 1 1/4-length win over Easy Now in the $250,000 Grade I Coaching Club American Oaks.
The victory, on the heels of a two-length score in the Mother Goose, boosted the Darn That Alarm filly into the top ranks of the nation's 3- year-old distaffers.
Last year's 2-year-old filly champion, Pleasant Stage, was third in the six-horse field.
Turnback The Alarm earned $150,000 and boosted her bankroll over the $500,000 mark. She ran the mile and one-quarter under Chris Antley in a relatively slow 2:03 2/5 over a fast track.
Turnback The Alarm paid $4.80, $2.60 and $2.20. Easy Now, a half- sister to Easy Goer, paid $3.60 and $2.40. Pleasant Stage returned $2. 60. A $2 exacta ticket was worth $13.
Local favorite Perfect Gem took the early lead. She surrendered the pace to Easy Now, with Mike Smith aboard, after six furlongs. After a mile, Turnback The Alarm took over and had too much for Easy Now to keep up.
Winning trainer William Terrill said the race went just according to plan.
'When Easy Now moved, he (Antley) wanted to stay with her,' Terrill said. 'We thought EAsy Now was the horse to beat. She just can't beat our filly.'
Antley said he was happy to stay behind a slow pace early but with five furlongs to go, 'I put my hands down and let her out a notch. I didn't want to go too slow.'

In Europe they scratch a horse that would take too much time to get into the gate. Ridiculous!
Moonlight Press, 2001 Saludos desde Venezuela 🇻🇪 "Ferdinand won the Kentucky Derby in 1986. Alysheba won it in 1987. Since the value of a colt skyrockets when he wins the Derby, it is rare for two winners to meet, since the older horse is whisked off to stud. When Ferdinand and Alysheba met for the first time in the 1987 Breeder's Cup Classic at Hollywood Park, it marked only the seventh race between Kentucky Derby winners since 1950, and the first time it happens in the Breeder's Cup" "This race had significant ramifications, because if either won, he would be Horse of the Year. Ferdinand, after starting the year with six consecutive losses, had won three straight races -including the Hollywood Gold Cup- for his trainer Charlie Wittingham, who called his colt 'the best horse in America running today' " "Alysheba had gone on to win the Preakness and the Super Derby, and had trained brilliantly for the Classic for his trainer Jack Van Berg. 'If he beats this horses, I would sure think he'd be the Horse of the Year' " Jay Privman "Breeder's Cup" page 74 Moonlight Press, 2001. Greetings from Venezuela 🇻🇪

Ferdinand ended up at a slaughterhouse in Japan. What a reward for Kentucky Derby winner.
Ruffian was a great filly. My first love is still Foolish Pleasure. His memory lays in the waste of the death of that fine Filly. The only Breyer model horse I kept in it's box as a kid. She is still in that box to this day.
Watching him Win the Triple Crown was watching Perfection. He was the Greatest Racehorse of all time. I don’t know if any other horse could have beat him at the Belmont. I always felt sad for Sham because he would have won the the Triple Crown but came in second to Big Red. Any other year Sham would have been the horse to beat. Sham was the only horse that really gave him Trouble. He stayed with him but ran out of gas at the end.
The only thing that ever held Secretariat back was humans once they let him run the race he wanted it was all over no contest. A true champion is only racing against himself and history
I can't watch Secretariat's Belmont with a dry eye. I saw it live so many years ago.
Triple crown winners American Pharoah and Justify, were Secretariats descendants.
The owners were just greedy. She started racing way to early.
Secretariat sired a Melbourne Cup winner in 1989 called Kingston Rule. Not many Americans would know this. And I know Kingston Rule ran the fastest time ever recorded in Melbourne Cup history. The Melbourne Cup is 3,200 metres. I would have loved to see Secretariat race but I'm in Australia and I was only 10 years old when he won all those races.
I'm reading all the comments about Secretariat and not one comment mentions that the horse had an oversized heart. And this is why he could run time in his races and it explains the stamina the horse had. I thought the American racing enthusiasts would have known about the horses huge heart.
Greatest ever
A.P. Indy was part of the only three generation sequence to win the Belmont Stakes, his sire was Seattle Slew and he sired Rags to Riches . Slew won in 1977 and Rags to Riches won in 2007 .
I worked at a throughbred bread farm for a few years. My boss was asked about the best horse he had ever seen.Without hesitating he said Seattle Slew. After stumbling out of the gate, fighting through traffic and still winning the derby.
So easy she could have ran in the classic the next and won it too
Ha! I just saw the newest comments that I didn’t see before! Amen and Amen.
I love how people see the glory and majesty of the LORD GOD in this creation of His, Secretariat, the perfect horse. I read the book years ago and as the end of days comes at lightening speed to pour out His wrath I can’t wait to ride behind The KING OF kings and LORD OF lords as HE RIDES in His second coming of HIS FINAL JUDGEMENT with HIS Bride THE REDEEMED fighting the last battle of Armageddon against the enemy of our souls and ISRAEL. Perhaps THE KING will be riding Secretariat. Come LORD JESUS!
Did the horse pass the drug test
Sham was a strong horse who was always pressuring Secretariat but at the Belmont Secretariat just wanted to run and Sham blew himself out trying to keep the pace. You can see Sham is striding and bobbing his head so much faster than Secretariat down the back stretch and the horse just can't keep up. To think Sham finished dead LAST trying to keep the pace Big Red was setting. It's just unbelievable. Like the old man in the clip says, it was like the Lord himself took the reins and told Secretariat "..go" and Big Red just went.
Maple whipped him way too many times. Horse was long gone, no need.

Lava man one of my all-time favorite horses
Seattle Slew absolutely bullied his way to the lead coming around the first turn.......Freaking Amazing! The horse had flare personality charisma ,attitude and flat out "cocky" everything you hated about an arrogant athlete. The Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Ric flair of horses. Secretariat may be the "goat" but fell short of that Slew presence. As far as greatness Seattle slew was right there with him.
Whirlaway is my favorite Triple Crown winner, and 5 horses have won the Triple Crown in my lifetime, Seretariat, slew, Affirmed, Pharoah, and Justify. I just LOVE Whirlaway. IT was his long tail, his jockey, Eddie Arcaro (The GOAT), his quirky personality, andhis contribution to the WWII effort. LOve him.
Thank you Lord for letting us borrow your horse. We called him Secretariat and we still love and miss him.
Immortal Performance by the Immortal Easy Goer running a mile in a still standing record of 1:32:2, and galloped out 9f in a record 1:45 and change!! Easy Goer ran as fast and as fluid as any horse who ever lived! "Easy Goer was a supernatural natural, with his strongly defined, chiseled features, luminescent red coat, and with the force of his bearing and power in his performances. Easy Goer would win with uncommon authority, displaying unbridled power and extraordinary acceleration. Easy Goer was an explosive, powerful red bolt who flew past horses instantly with a huge, fluid, ground-swallowing stride, the ground a blur beneath his hooves, leaving horses behind in widening wakes while appearing to make only fleeting contact with the dirt. Easy Goer was a red blur who shot by horses like a Ferrari passing tricycles, defying gravity and physics with magnificent ease; an explosion of will and determination that he routinely unveiled with immense ability which brought him to the Hall of Fame, a shrine which is the ultimate honor for any and every Thoroughbred. Since the genesis of the breed, no Thoroughbred has fun a faster mile than Easy Goer as a three-year-old, while he came within only one-fifth of Dr. Fager's hallowed world-record; and only one horse, Secretariat, has run a faster mile-and-a-half Test-of-the-Champion Belmont Stakes than Easy Goer. Easy Goer also is the only horse in racing history to win the Belmont, Whitney, Travers, Woodward and Jockey Club Gold Cup and the only 3-year-old to win the Whitney, Woodward and Jockey Club Gold Cup while defeating older horses in the latter three. Easy Goer is one of only two horses to win the Champagne, Belmont, and Travers. He is also one of only two horses to notch a Travers, Whitney and Belmont Stakes triple, and the only one to do so in the same year. Additionally, he is one of only five horses to tally a Whitney-Travers double in the same year. Since 1919, Easy Goer is one of only ten horses to sweep the Belmont, Travers and Jockey Club Gold Cup. Since 1973, Easy Goer is one of only 8 horses that have won three consecutive Grade I races longer than 1 1/8 miles on dirt; with the other six being Triple Crown winners Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Secretariat, American Pharoah, Justify, as well as Alysheba and Gentlemen. Even Easy Goer's few defeats by the narrowest of margins did nothing to dispel the notion that Easy Goer was one of the best of all-time; the brilliance in his performances were worthy of only a highly special racehorse."
Steve Cauthen. What a great jockey. Young and intelligent when he won the Triple Crown. He sure new AFFIRMED.
I always liked that Donna Brothers was in tears every time the Triple Crown didn't work out. I miss that.
The announcer is terrible! No drama buildup to the stretch drive. Absolutely horrible!
The thankfully late J.t Lundy had no business NEAR CALUMET. Poor Alydar. I always thought Alydar's passing was suspicious. He didn't deserve the ending he got. God saw what happened that night.
How in the world did point given waves
Let's not forget that at the Belmont in the Barn stall spectacular bed had a safety pin in he's right front hoof that was in bedded in the horse hoof corrum ouch try running on that to this day no one knows anything about it
Bravo Great Champion Secretariat Rest In Peace Greatest Champion Ever , Amazing Horse ❤❤❤❤

Sad this race hardly draws any good horses anymore.
Woody is right cali racing is speed favoring,
Javier Castellano. Most Outstanding jockey 4 times in a row for a reason.
American Pharoah, heart of champion in defeat. Nothing was handed to him. He was just far better than every horse in his crop. Dominated the Rebel and Arkansas Derbies. Battled to win the Kentucky Derby. Ran away from everyone in the driving rain at Pimlico and ran the 6th fastest Belmont Stakes ever. Never ducked anyone and could’ve annihilated them in the Haskell if he wasn’t geared down to basically walk across the finish line. Horse of a lifetime.

little did they know, That Skip Away would roll off another 9 grade 1's, including the fastest Breeders Cup in its history. This race was one of the last races where 2 real, weight carrying champions met. A real changing of the guard from one to another.
