- 1967 Chrysler Imperial 👑 Junkyard Find. Now this Mopar was truly a rare sight to see these days in a junkyard. Mopars in general are pretty rare in the yards these days but to have the Luxury brand show up, now that was a treat. This 67 4 door was all there but in rough shape from sitting for many years. The exterior was fairly straight with some dings here and there along with some light hail damage. The interior was moldy and someone had replaced the original front seat and removed the radio. Aside from that it appeared to be all there but dilapidated. The trunk had a few goodies such as some Snap On sockets and a cool vintage robinair thermistor meter. Under the hood was the original 440 big block and it turned over by hand. This was a very cool car to check out indeed.

Whoa Nelley, as the B-52s said, "It's as big as a whale and it's about set sail....."
From 1955 to 1983, technically Imperial was considered a separate division of Chrysler. Grab the tools. I spot a Craftsman inspection mirror that was made by Ullman Devices of Ridgefield, CT for Sears. They are an excellent company. When I told them I couldn't find a particular Craftsman product, the president of the company himself mailed me an Ullman equivalent for free.
Yes, originally Gatorade was developed for the Florida Gators football team. Stokely Van Camp was the original marketer of the beverages, and they were developed in 1965 by Dr. Robert Cade. Remember, pennies make dollars and dollars make sense. I just found a dime walking to my garage a few minutes ago, and you bet I picked it up and put it in my bank when I got home. I'd pick up a penny too. While out walking to go get the GM NOS I sold and bring it back home to pack it up, I saw a crazy person driving a small car in "blackout mode" (looked like a Ford Fiesta) and blowing through every intersection and stop sign, bottoming out and going at least 45 mph through the intersections. Something was up there. As a side note, I did sell two of the GM NOS (some square body and some OBS) parts that I got from my friend. More on the way....
We got the VIN, we win: Y for Imperial, M for Medium price class, 43 for four door hardtop, K for 440 V8 with four barrel, 7 for 1967 model year, 3 for Jefferson Ave/Detroit, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The original Jefferson plant was a Chrysler plant from 1925 to 1990 and was torn down about a year after that. It opened up in 1907 as a Chalmers plant. Today, Jefferson North (which opened in 1991) produces Jeep and Dodge truck (mostly Durango) vehicles. There was a base Imperial (called just Imperial) an Imperial Crown and an Imperial LeBaron in 1967.
We got the tag, we can brag: WW1 for Persian White exterior paint, YM43 for Imperial Medium price class four door hard top, M9R for red leather interior trim, 2 for axle which would be 2.94:1 ratio, lower case "k" of 7 for manual RH mirror, lower case "u" for "sold car", capital "S" of 1 for factory installed AC, capital "X" of 1 for tinted glass, all windows, upper case "D" for front disc brakes, lower case "h" of 7 for fender mounted turn signals, lower case "d" of 6 for rear radio speaker, lower case "g" of 6 for driver's side outside remote mirror, lower case 'j" of 0 for tilt and telescoping steering column, upper case "H" of 2 for power door locks, upper case "K" of 8 for power windows, upper case "L" of 9 for power vent windows, upper case "N" of 8 for rear window defogger, upper case "Q" of 9 for sentinel lighting, lower line has a code for three speed automatic transmission, 313 is Monday March 13, 1967 production, among other codes. The 440 V8 in this application had about 350 gross HP and about 480 lb-ft of torque which were gross ratings. This was a real stump puller and the 440 was a tough engine.
Whoa Nelley, the Crown is wearing a frown. Paint code WW1 and it's done. Trim code M9R and not going very far. That's it, time to quit. The leather spent too much time in the weather. 4-4-0 and gotta go. 1967 and going to Heaven. Get those sockets before this one is out of pocket. When we get the tag, we can always brag. Good thing you got that tag, or the Google Man would be sad. That tag was a hard one to go through, but that's what I always do. Always get the VIN for the win. Going to be flat and that's that. Torqueflite soon to be outta sight. Going to get squished and the UTG big block and Mopar faithful are going to be pretty pissed.
Yes I had a 65 Imperial last year of the 413 l sold it and then I bought it back.
It was the Lebaron Crown 4 door everything was power and the radio had the what looked like a dimmer switch near the actual dimmer switch that moved the dail.
@@garymckee448 They had some unique features indeed.
@@googleusergp Yes and l think the cruise control was manufactured by Bendix
@@garymckee448 Yes, that sounds right. Bendix was a main supplier to the automotive industry,
I think I missed one, Capital "R" of 1 is AM radio.
She could and should be saved! Love me some Mopars!
This is one of the most interesting cars you've ever rummaged through.
Got a call from a friend with a Chrysler imperial about 8:00 one night. He needed help, had the whole tilt, telescopic steering assembly apart . Parts in coffee cans, and on the floor and he couldn't remember how to put it back together. After about two hours I had it working. I asked why he took it apart, and he said he was looking for the ignition switch because it would start but not stay running. I told him the switch was on the column down near the floor, but the problem was only the ballast resistor. By chance his friend had one and a couple of minutes later it was running. All that mess for nothing.
I always wonder when these junkyard cars were new and the proud owners. If only those cars could tell the story because for these cars it's almost over.
If only they could talk, I agree.
Generally, the more owners that a car has in the first 10 or 15 years of its life...then the likelihood it will be either junked or in poor condition. This example may have been in poor condition by the early 1980s but nobody wanted to scrap it. If the unit body of this car is not damaged it could be restored...sell it to a Swede!
You need to add this to your collection 👍
The 440 always goes first. Muscleheads love them.
I’m in Australia 🇦🇺 and I love how you Americans get these cars into the scrap yard.
I tell you (Americans) when these cars are gone they are gone.
It’s obvious I know but that’s a CAR and I live in a large country which these car love.
I’m jealous of the great cars you Americans demolish for fun but that’s the norm for you guys.
PLEASE start to respect the mighty cars that you guys built that no no else could have.
Derby guys everywhere getting all excited watching this..
Aren’t they banned form derby’s?
This is when cars were crafted instead of just manufactured. Love it!
Whoa it shouldn't have never ended up as junk that's a rare classic!
I really love that old car.
Thank you.
Same here
Someone needs to get that car. Not only is it rare, it is worth tons of $$$$
Disc brakes came standard on the Imperial for this year, Lincoln was the only other one to have them
We had two of these sitting on the farm. Both engines were saved but never found a new home! Thanks for the visit to memory lane!
Benny that is soo nice that Imperial. I love it!!
Took my similar white Imperial to the junkyard in Milwaukee. It had a light blue interior. I still have the Imperial name plate off the fender, just like the one you found inside. It had a vacuum leak at one point and used to whistle. Maybe that's why that tester was in the trunk. 😄
Pivoted vanity mirror...I never knew Imperials had those.
I like the bodystyle of those full size Mopars especially from 50s-early 70s that 67 Imperial is almost identical to a Plymouth Fury yes it's a more door still restorable & classic interior accessories also rare good in trunk.
Gorgeous , and straight panels too boot
67 that's a good year and first for the 440.
The 440 V-8 appeared the previous 1966 model year.
@@SpockvsMcCoy
Either way the first 6 years were the best ones ever made after 72 they were not as good
Dang, she could be saved. Nice car for back in the day.
BENNY, Take all of those Tools! Even The Kmart stuff. And that Toy Hot wheels. And your Glass Gaterade jar. thanks fairy much pedro.
In Junior high 1974/1975. Our Music teacher Mr. Regil had one of those Big Yachet Chrysler's and i would not mind having ONE!
I would love to have that car next to my 1968 Sport Fury.bring her back to life for cruising.
For reference, those early Mopar ignition keys went in upside down.
Good call I remember that
It needs a lot of cosmetic and electrical work, but if that motor and trans are salvageable this would be a great investment, a lot of way to go with it. It would be a show stopper and eye turner. I don’t think you’d lose money on it
Sadly, you'd lose money on it. Luxury cars are extremely expensive to restore and have little market. Someone will probably take that 440 and "upgrade" a base 318 MOPAR muscle car.
Wow....nice... what a boat...
A true iron horse
would be really nice restored 😀
Body the car does not to bad to restored the car
There only worth like 20k with low mileage though
That glass Gatorade bottle sell on eBay, for real
Still a beautiful car!! That needs 100 grand in restoration work
This would be a great car to run in a demolition derby. It's size and weight give it a big advantage over other cars.
I think the Imperial is banned from derby use. They are basically indestructible.
LeBaron was the top of the line Imperial in 1967. The Custom trim was dropped for 1964.
Mostly correct, yes. There was an Imperial base (called an Imperial), an Imperial Crown and then a LeBaron as the top of the line in 1967.
Yes I too remember the glass Gatorade bottles.
The car maybe clapped out but that 440 will get snagged in a heart beat by someone who would stick it in a B Body like they did back in the day where luxury cars were often pilfered for their big block engines and the engines would get stuffed into intermediate size cars.
Damn that is so cool .. I never seen one like that.
Junk in the Trunk !
Thank U.
A rare sight today even in "more door form". I like longer videos & I always check out the cool oddball stuff left behind. One time I was reaching under the seat of a smashed Ford pickup & pulled out was I thought was a .45 auto, my excitement quickly faded when I realized it was a very realistic air soft gun. 😥😂
Now this is a super sweet car. I would so save this, fix a few things that it needed get that motor running. This would be one hell of an awesome weekend cruiser!!!
Wow what a nice find and as old as I am.
Great find Benny!
Quite the car in its day
This was more expensive than a Cadillac new
@@HighSockDavid and more exclusive
My mom had a 1966 4dr.
I believe it was designated as an "Imperial Crown", not a "Chrysler Imperial Crown", despite the plaque. ;-)
Benny and the jets that was a beautiful car when new hope you took the tools and vacuum gauge
One of your best videos save that for 40
The Gulf station that issued that pamphlet is still around (at least the building is, but it's no longer a station, but you can tell it was). Also I believe the address where the owner lived might be a historic home now as per the state of TX.
sad end to a great car
Better ending than most of them got sadly a common demotion derby car it’s most famous film was when some art jackass bought six of them and had them run into each other rip :(
That''s a good year 440... you should grab that one!
It's a shame to junk a 1967 Chrysler imperial it's a classic have a good painted and all the engine you sell selld it in an auction what a nice video very excellent
Breaks my heart...😞
Same
4 door it's ok it can make a cool family cruiser.
Or mafia car trunk great for holding bodies
Neat car
The people that follow u know what u mean about straight car. Rick in Detroit.
👍
Buy that big block , man. Someone needs it
So rockin badass
I was thinking the same thing when you picked up the Gatorade bottle
The second letter in the vehicle identification number is "M".
That means it is medium optionated right in the middle
Like the one in the movie Charlie Verrick !!
Classic movie-cool car that got repoed. That '71 Lincoln was cool too!!
I love Imperials, 🥶🥶
Remember one of these getting smashed to smithereens by Lee Marvin with the dodgy salesman alongside him in the movie 'Point Blank', though that was a convertible example but same colour & was also brand new at the time.
Hope someone saves it if your able too it would make a great yt series
What a beautiful car even in this state
And someone saved it, I was told
@@ClassicRideSociety awesome
need to fix this car and have one of a kind .
That's definitely a good project car
I was told someone bought it
Kelsey Hayes 4 piston calipers on the front , 1 year option if not mistaken. many over seas taken there by govt. officials then sold rather than ship home.
it has the dual outside mirrors also Benny !
Nice car even for a 4door and something about digging in the glove compartment, they were crushing cars 🚗at the dump here at the reserve and my wife was digging through them and found how many scratch tickets-
you should have pulled up the bottom of the back seat, bet the build sheet was still there. Crown was top of the line
LeBaron was the most expensive Imperial.
@@SpockvsMcCoy Correct. Imperial (base), then Crown then LeBaron for 1967.
Dam I would love to have that 440.😳 just don't have the time or space 😕
Did they also come with a 383 ci. Or just 440ci ?
@@462ANIMAL In 1967, it was a 440 V8 with an A727 Torqueflite three speed automatic transmission.
Google Man how are you my friend hope all is well with you and your family. 👪
@@backpi Same to you.
My great grandfather had a 68 chrysler imperial 440 375 horse imperial was the top of line chrysler even above the new Yorker but they lost that image in the late 80s when they went front wheel drive and V6 only
Neat old car. When will Chrysler ever bring back the Imperial….
They made a concept around 2008 but that’s about it
Love these C Body cars. Highly underrated in todays world. Definitely not as popular as the A,B and E bodys for obvious reasons.
Everytime I see or hear of the Imperial, I think of our little county fair in Platte Ciry MO, Who would not allow Imperials in their demolition derbies ,They said due to them being built like tanks, they weren't compatible to go against the other "tanks" of the day, sounds kinda weird now doesn't it?
Someone bought it. Maybe to demo derby it. I bought the engine
A fugitive from Peyton Place!
Just sold my C body 66 fury, it wasn't as straight as this one. I would love to have another one. I'm a Texan, I would inquire about this one if I knew where the hell it's at lol
They had the Imperial Crown and the top of the line LeBaron. At one time they had a Custom series maybe in 1967 as well but not sure. In the 1950's they had the Southampton series. All convertibles were Crowns.
Its a cool car. Maybe it can be fixed to look descent. The trunk is loaded with stuff. Im guessin the owner got old and passed away and his family members did not liked the car so they sold it to the junkyard.
the 4 piston caliper Budd brakes , the electrical system , the steering column turn signal switch , are all a nightmare - even if you had found this sitting in a garage up on blocks your best bet is to salvage the motor and transmission - minus the carb - and send it off to the scrappers.
Set sail? Hardly ! Those Imperials had a 440 and fast is what it was !
Them rear tail lights are gold on them things I would get them it would pay off one day probably get a hundred each on eBay for them very hard to find item. Speedo is an easy sell on these if its good
Lookin for that elusive 10mm
This car gave me a bad rash 😄
Hey Benny where's this one located. I need those exhaust manifolds for my 68 Mopar.
It was at Crain's in ft worth. I bought the engine. Thought the rest woukd soon be out in the yard for parts but was recently told someone bought the car after the engine was pulled
@@ClassicRideSociety ohh ok if you run across any 68 Mopar exhaust manifolds let me know. Even at a swap meet I tend to miss those down here in Texas. I'll send you the money for them.
I was wondering if you were going to show the telescopic steering column
You should start getting them brass base light bulbs you can cause you can't buy them any more they are good to have. I grab every dam one I can find in the yards for my older cars that use them.
You can find them NOS without much trouble. I have a whole tote box full of NOS USA made bulbs.
Oh MAN! Do they sell those? Be a fun project car for my spare garage
Why is it all the manuals and documents including the card shows up in junkyard cars more often then private sales.
Last year of Imperial being its own line. Starting in '68, Imperial was C- body- based
1969 model was the first year for fuselage body Imperial sharing a body with cheaper Chryslers.
Technically from 1955 to 1983, the Imperial was considered a separate division of Chrysler, although parts were often shared with other Chrysler products and they were built in some of the same facilities.
@@googleusergp Marketing gimmick that never stimulated sales. Imperials were never sold in standalone dealerships like some Cadillacs. Only model years of Imperial when sales ever increased were with a complete redesign...then sales weakened the next one or two model years. Cadillac had more consistent yearly sales. The 1981-1983 and 1990-1993 Imperials were junk which doomed them for good. My favorite is the 1960 Imperial LeBaron.
@@googleusergp prior to '68 it was it's own chassis. After, it was C-body. '80-'82 was an F,M,J chassis. Pretty much just a top-end Chrysler '68 -up. They were K-cars in the '90's...
@@SpockvsMcCoy Either way, it was considered a separate division. Chryslers of that era were bloated and clunky, but they have their following. I'm just not typically one of them.
I see a 56 Caddy clock in the trunk.
is it for sale ?
Looks like the radio is there, but the HVAC head is gone.
Dang, you're right. How the heck did I miss that 😄. I'm starting to lose it 😄
@@ClassicRideSociety My Dad was a Mopar guy. He restored and drove a 67 Plymouth Satellite as his daily driver in the 80s. I've seen a lot of Mopar stuff over the years. I always loved Imperials.
A flip-up coke mirror!?! Sold lmao
Was a nice ride at one time. Just not worth restoration. $30,000 plus ..... A shame ......take the engine✌
Man luxury is correct love them big C body's my 78 new Yorker was quieter than a tit mouse pissing on a piece of cotton! Damn I miss that car!!
by 1967 the dashboards got really boring almost no frills like mid 50s thru mid 60s vehicles had
oh yeah, i fuckedup, LeBaron was top of line, pardon me
That Ole Girl, Would FRY the back tires rite off of it! And you would not even have to power break it! Just come to a complete stop then Punch her. My late grandpa had an early 1970s New Yorker with that engine in it and it would Smoke em. BOTH WHEELS!
I just know she was a gorgeous girl at one time. Sad.
could be wheat penny in that old car man
What will happen with this car?
Hey would they sell that car I'm chris I really like what you do please lmk I would love to have that car
Someone bought it
