The purpose of an opening statement is to state what evidence will be presented and to make it easier for the jurors to understand what is to follow. Attorneys are not allowed to make _arguments_ during opening statements, because it is unfair to the opposing party to allow an attorney to influence the jury by presenting statements not susceptible of proof. Examples of impermissible argument include judging the credibility of witnesses and discussing how the law applies to the facts.
The prosecutor was objecting to the argumentative statements made by defense counsel, who was attempting to attack the credibility of the state’s witness by referring to evidence that may not have been admissible at trial. Defense counsel was also trying to explain how the rules of evidence applied to the facts. Despite the court’s rulings, the defense attorney continued to make the same arguments.

She’s arguing her defendant’s case, and Judge Boyd was wrong here. I get it that you guys don’t understand case law- but Judge Boyd was clearly basing all of her rulings in favor of upholding the State’s case (who only has one witness and no external or corroborating information. That’s not good. And then she prevented the defense attorney from letting the jury know that this one state’s witness is being given a lighter sentence in exchange for their testimony against this defendant. That’s also, really, not good.)
Now he absolutely may be a super bad dude and deserve to go away for a long, long time - but it’s up to the State to PROVE this. And the defense attorney was within her rights to tell the jury what this witness was being given in exchange for her testimony- that is not fall under the jurisdiction of “argumentative” in any way, shape, or form. It feel like Boyd’s CZcams channel and outward public support has started to affect her rulings, and this does not uphold the defendant’s constitutional rights, no matter how I may feel about him. 🤷🏽‍♀️
I love Judge Boyd, and the way she ruled this case was very disappointing to see, but the way this comment section is viewing how this case was ruled upon is more concerning. She absolutely went against every statute, and he’s going to get an appeal because of it. She definitely insured that.

What an old bag! She probably had only a couple of total sentences in that whole opening argument that she can use. Unfortunately, the jury does remember what she said and that is playing dirty. I have seen this lawyer before and she does seem to be kind of hateful in fact. I think Judge Boyd will do a fantastic job as always.

If you watch Judge Boyd at all, it is apparent that she is really serious about this trial. What a tragedy for this child....the Judge handles all types of cases but in all the time I've been watching her, I haven't seen her so affected by this case. Ms. Connelly is showing her nasty self in grandoise style, but the Judge will make mince meat of her if she needs to.
