    Literally day 60 for me and the difference is night and day. I was a bottle of wine a day person. I’m now off blood pressure meds/ oesophagitis meds, I’ve lost half a stone but look like I’ve lost more, I sleep better, my mood is stable, outlook more positive and I look five years younger. I’ll be honest, sometimes I miss that initial buzz ethanol gave me but I don’t miss the destruction it also caused. It simply isn’t worth it. Keep going everyone!

    Hi Kevin sometimes I think you have a crystal ball into my life when I hear your talks. I have been doing great, and then on my 59th day I had my brain fart, as you call it. I was leaving my friend's to go home, evening was falling, (my drinking danger time zone), and suddenly I was entertaining the thought of going home via the drive through bottle shop, and how wonderful, that red wine was going to be. I was fully emersed in the imaginary scenario. My "Gollum" was jabbering away at me, "Only this once, and you can get back to it tomorrow". I was so close to doing it, I was shocked and dismayed at the intensity of the desire for the alcohol. It was the worst since I've stopped. I drove home ignoring the bottle shop, ate dinner and the crisis was averted. Happily just finished day 61 and now after watching this video, I realise those little brain farts will happen, and just need to be swatted away, and just keep plodding. Next time it happens I'll try to remember to have some humour and tell Gollum to "Sod off". Plodding on now towards 90 days 😀

  • @MartianTom
    @MartianTom Před 7 měsíci +5

    Just hit 66 days. All okay so far - just occasional urges that I've managed to quell. Brain farts - exactly! Mostly I miss it in the evenings, when settling down to watch a movie. All I have to do is remember that I can now actually remember the ends of the movies! The benefits are psychosomatic. Just thinking to myself 'I haven't drunk for a long time, and I don't need to drink, and my body is clean of alcohol' makes me feel physically better. I don't get so tired, and whatever tiredness I have is natural. I'm sleeping better. I'm eating better. I'm not an alcoholic, but I was certainly drinking more than I should - mainly during evenings and days off. So I probably could go back to it without any really drastic consequences. But you know what? I don't want to. The brief buzzes of drinking aren't worth the long-term buzz of being clean.

Sometimes the thought of drinking can be intrusive, and since things are going so well the drinker brain is trying to use that as a justification to go back to my old ways. Same deal, I've done several 2 week bouts of sober this year but I wasn't truly letting go and seeing it as a break - too much rationalizing just a break. Something in my soul changed this time about it and I don't know what but I feel a deep peace in the act of closing that chapter of drinking. A huge peace overwhelming the act.
      I notice with persistence, the alcohol becomes more and more shameful and the mind becomes more aware of how it's no longer enjoyable but just a numbing while drinking - starts to become only poison and there's a greater awareness of all the negative effects hyper-focused among the positives that become shorter and shorter lived with an obviously greater boost from a good solid workout that lasts hours and a good rest that leaves a mind feeling grounded and capable. Good breathwork and rest and waking up to read a good book about something really meaningful we've put off, something the more authentic self lives for.

    2 months for me now and I had what you call a brain fart yesterday. I was thinking to myself how it would be cool to get a very nice bottle of wine for Xmas day and for my birthday only, enjoy them and then stay off it. I went ten years without drinking in the past (age 44 to 54, I am 58 now) and the special occasions is exactly how I started again. Special occasions became every Sunday, every Sunday and Saturday then Friday nights and then back on it big time with the occasional benders that are the reason that I can't trust myself with drinking.

    Thanks for your awesome videos. I quit 33 days ago, I was drinking every other night for 8 months, I quit abruptly when I grew tolerance to it.
    So 4-5 days after that I caught a fever, seemed viral in nature, had a bad throat infection and cough, 4 days into the fever, I developed a weird delirium, brain fog, strangeness in my vision, extreme fatigue.
    Now that terribly disturbing thing has stayed with me ever since. MRI and EEG was done twice, first time they saw a focal seizure disorder in EEG, after 7 days, EEG was normal, MRI of the brain also came normal.
    Things are getting better slowly, my memory and thinking is about 50 percent of my Norma ability now which was way worse, this is without medication, I am just taking a l carnosine supplement for 14 days now, don't know how much it helped.
    Could a sudden withdrawal caused wernicke korsakoff syndrome? The first time the neurologist said my brain was being bombarded with too many thoughts, basically stress because I never told them about the alcohol thing.
    Is such delirium and vision in efficiency possible from sudden alcohol withdrawal? How long does it last?
    Thinking at a normal pace is really difficult now, I am just feeling lazy and feeling a lack of confidence and ambition which I was known for before, I feel very indifferent to everything, mood has been normal.
    I just wanna get out of this shithole of a place I am in. Doctors here get annoyed if asked too many questions.
    Your answer would be very helpful.

      It's not likely. Usually that type of damage associated with long term drinking

    That's the secret.
    When you go in a Pub or Bar, the people are not interested in anything but themselves.
    It takes a personal change for the other person to realise that they want something of what you have.
    You won't make good friends in a pub.

      It's the same as if you were hanging around with lads who were all chasing the dragon... You decide to stop but you still want to go hang out with them when they're high on smack...

    Sorry fellas, as noble and healthy as it is to abstain ( I want to quit alcohol forever) you won't get laid or socialize. This is a brutal truth of sobriety.

    • @HabitsV2
      @HabitsV2  Před rokem +6

      Haha... that's part of the brainwashing. I socialize far more without being medicated with alcohol than I did when I was drinking. As far as getting laid is concerned, when you're body and brain are working correctly, you'll have no problem in that department either.

      That's not true. I know that it's hard to make new friends as an adult, but get yourself out there! Some women are attracted to men who are physically and mentally healthy, btw 😘
