I greatly admire this base's design! It's brilliant! I personally learnt to build it myself, just by watching Nefrums speedruns and analyzing what he does, and then made a staged BP of this base using GlassBricks' mod (with some tweaks*) not to use it for speedrun reasons myself, but to use it as a bootstrap base whenever I start a new vanilla playthrough and want to get to bots quickly :) Love this design :) It's always a blast to build it again in any new base I start! * By tweaks, I mostly mean extensions to what the mall provides for its use as bootstrap base. I added red&blue belts, all rail items, stack inserters, all log chests + roboports, medium and big power poles, logistics bots, expanded red circuits for the mall, added automated military science and automated mines+cliff explosives and also added combat bots and turrets and full ammo production. Also, added uranium power items after concrete production for making nuclear power plants. All of that is useless for speedruns, but as a bootstrap base it's essential to have! I was able to just add all of that around the existing stuff without disrupting the design too much, but I had to move stuff around a bit, and change relative positions of stuff... but it's certainly the same core design as Nefrums uses.
Age is a trade of. What you lose in reaction you have to gain back by instinct. Gaming at.. well. My age... (45) is very diffrent to say 25. Of cause, in factorio that is not that reaction dependent its not that bad of a trade of. A lot of people claimed that learning is slower at this age.. I'm not sure I seen that.
@@matsv201 They claim it's slower because younger people tend to be less stubborn and more curious. Which are traits related to learning. And also because the older you get, the more time you've had to reinforce your habits. A crystalline brain if you will is not as adaptable. But since it's a saying, sometimes it's construed as "The brain gets weaker" or some kind of mental feebleness arising by nature rather than nurture, when really it's just the growth of a person affected by their change in personality. Which is something in your control, as much as some would probably love to claim otherwise.. This is entirely different from getting Alzheimer's or going senile of course.

I'm on my 11 hours on my first playtrough and just finished my blue potion for the lab. It's amazing to see this efficient run despite how hard this game actually is
I'm sure you CZcams audience wouldn't mind if you uploaded more runs that might not have been record breaking but good runs that came close (or fun runs)
Can someone explain to me how does he have so few biter attacks? Like, OK, he's fast, but that should only help with the evolution part, right? But with the pollution he's generating, he should be getting way more attacks imo.
iirc the diffusion rate is about 2-3% on default(?) So maybe the pollution just doesn't have time to migrate chunks, plus playing faster means less expansion parties so fewer bases popping up close by?
Yeah if you do a bot rush in 2 hours you'll notice that there's barely any bugs, and as you expand to the nearby ore patches you'll find maybe a few spawners as they haven't multiplied like crazy yet. This changes in a few hours, and you'll get pollution evolution rate of something like 92% as well. Also it's like quite likely he does get a lot of biter attacks, biters are just shredded at small size.

Default settings runs never took 10 hours. I did the first one at 4h20m. You are probably thinking of 100% runs.

Pollution dissipates from trees. Also you only need a few turrets when you already know where the biters are going to come from.
