  • This week I'm in South Snowdonia with ‪@Stainphotography‬trying to recapture a photograph I took 3 years ago at Llyn Cynwch looking back towards Cadair Idris.
    I used the morning as an opportunity to test a new magnetic filter set which ‪@kentfaith.official‬ kindly sent to me the ‪@kfconcept‬ - Nano X - Magnetic Lens Filter Kit (link to purchase below).
    Having been a user of Kase filters for a number of years I wanted to ask the question, is the price of these filters worth it, or do the K&F Concept filters (at a fraction of the price) come close or even match the image quality of the Kase filters, watch to find out…

    Great comparison, I’ve had K&F for a good 3 years now and I think they are excellent. Loved the cold bum image, great work 👍

    I use the Kase K9 kit along with the 6/10/15 stop ND filters, i can't say i have noticed a colour cast to them in the couple of years i have been using them. I moved from Lee to Kase after i managed to break both the Lee little and big stoppers on a rock while down in Cornwall. I went with Kase as Lee gave a colour cast and everyone who had used the Kase square filters had said their was no colour cast.

      Thanks, this makes me wonder if I received a bad copy then, been using the Kase for a while and always had to cool down the images slightly.

    I swapped over from Nisi square filters to the K&F magnetic. Much less hassle to use them and the whole kit is just so light. I purchased the CPL separately. It comes with an adapter so actually it's not bad as I can use that 2nd adapter permanently on another lens.
    Nice photos by the way... :)

      Thanks for watching Marcell, glad you liked the images. The K&F is a great system, I too got the CPL separately and glad it came with an extra adapter ring, means I can attach to both my main lenses permanently, looking forward to trying out the rest of the filters over the coming months.

    I gave up on filters several years ago. I have a K&F ND/CPl combo in my bag for water shots but rarely use it
    I bracket instead of using grads. With IBIS I've almost stopped using tripods but the advantage of said is to hold your composition

    • @MHLandscape
      @MHLandscape  Před 5 měsíci

      I don't use mine often, sometimes it's fun to do long exposures and sometimes it's good to use a CPL to cut reflections. But I've never used ND grads, much preferring to exposure blend. Tripods while a faff, I like cause they slow me down and help me refine my compositions

    I keep looking at K&F filter sets and the thing that has stopped me each time is the inclusion of a pointless filter and lack of an important one, for instance including grad ND but no CPL, or including a UV but no ND1000.

    • @MHLandscape
      @MHLandscape  Před 7 dny +1

      Completely understand, but then you could add one of those separately and still save money compared to some other manufacturers

    • @JerGoes
      @JerGoes Před 7 dny +1

      @@MHLandscape I could, but then I look at the price of the individual ND1000 or CPL which is nearly half the cost of the full set. Even if they are exceptionally good value compared to a more expensive brand I would never be in the market to buy anyway as an amateur, that feeling of 'that's a bit steep' niggles in the back of my mind and I stick with the set I already have. One day I'll succumb I'm sure but that day isn't today :) great video btw very informative.

      Oh, and forgot to say: I use Kase but Mrs Suggy uses the K&F, so I've been comparing the 2 side by side for a couple of years... conclusion? Wish I'd bought K&F and saved a few pennies to spend on other kit. Having said that, I use 95mm filters and I don't think K&F go that big.

    • @MHLandscape

      Nice to hear from someone who's compared both, the Kase filters are very good still, but I'm not sure they are worth the price tag after comparing. Sadly I think you are right though K&F I believe only go to 82mm

    Hi Martin I've just ordered the new KASE filter set 🙈 wish I'd waited now as it looks like the K&F can certainly match them. I'd be interested to know how good they are regarding scratches. I can see they are supposed to be scratch proof like the KASE ones. I don't expect you to test that out 😂 Cadar Idris is one that I still haven't climbed. I had hoped to do a wild camp a couple of years ago but the weather turned windy and I didn't fancy being up there in those conditions. Maybe this year

    • @MHLandscape
      @MHLandscape  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for watching Paul, I obviously haven't tested the scratch resistance, but maybe that's where the price for Kase really begins to pay off? Having said that my Kase CPL had a scratch on it after only a couple of uses and still to this day I have no idea how it got there, I tend to baby my gear often a bit too much, so I'm baffled. But I'm absolutely sure you'll love your Kase filters, you've gone for a later version than mine so hopefully the colour cast that I experience is gone and the scratch resistance is better.
      Cadair is a great walk, me and the wife did itvia the Minfford path about 4 years ago, loved it but it about killed me 😂

    • @tuftyhill
      @tuftyhill Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@MHLandscape I've actually got light scratches on my KASE CPL which is from an older system (possibly the same as yours) and I haven't a clue when that happened. Hopefully the newer version will have more protection. I need to get more climbing done as I've not completed any decent ascent for ages 🤔

    • @MHLandscape
      @MHLandscape  Před 5 měsíci

      @@tuftyhill hopefully your new Kase will be better. Cadair is a tough one, I found it tougher on the legs than Scafell Pike to be honest, the start of the Minfford path is all steps (big steps) that seem to go on forever before it levels out for a bit.

    U almost never use a CPL. The VND use useful for video and for refining exposure without playing silly buggers with aperture (as Gary gough does) or ISO.

    • @MHLandscape
      @MHLandscape  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Good point, I rarely use the CPL, but it's the one lens I can't emulate in post production, so would prefer to have it for those times a photo calls for it, I use VNDs for my video work but might start introducing it to my photography work.
