    How to craft a female leather breastplate. This was a wax hardened leather chestplate custom designed for the use on a Game of War commercial. The video is loaded with info that will be useful even if you do not want to make this breastplate yourself. The video shows the process as I create a custom fitted leather corset/breastplate to be used as costume armour for a Game of War Commercial. Using vegetable tanned leather I pattern and cut the body of the cuirass and then shape it by soaking it in water. When it is dry I use molten paraffin wax to harden the breastplate and give it a rich brown colour. Then I sew on upper breast detail and add a machine stitched leather binding to all of the edges. Using rivets and brass buckles I attach latigo leather straps that allow the fit to be adjusted. Next a piece of pigskin lining is dyed and riveted underneath. Some detailed hand sewing and some patterning tricks are also revealed in this build. I have many other leather working tutorials with tips and tricks on how to make your own custom fitted leather armor.

    Great work! I got a leather armor vest and I dyed it with dark brown using spray. It basically dyed very nice, but now I need to make it look distressed or weathering. How would you do weathering on a nice leather armor. I should have used a piece of wool like you did which make it look distressed already. Thanks

    This video was exactly what I was looking for. I've never worked with leather before, so making the chest and shoulder pieces for my outfit's going to be an adventure. Is there anyway to harden and shape the leather without wax? I dont have access to that much heated wax

    • @DrawbridgeProps
      @DrawbridgeProps  Před 5 lety +4

      you can harden in warm water. should be too hot to put your hands in but not boiling. at bit tricky to do without over hardening. test a few pieces first. they won't reach full hardness until a they cool down hours after they come out of the water. usually takes less than 10 minutes in the water.

    • @DrawbridgeProps
      @DrawbridgeProps  Před 2 lety

      You can brush wax while in the oven for larger pieces.

    hi just want to know when she was wear the armor was there any chaffing or rubbing that she complained about

    • @DrawbridgeProps
      @DrawbridgeProps  Před 7 lety

      No complaints. She was only in it for about 2 hours Day 1 and 8-10 hours day 2. I knew that going in or I would have lined it with a piece of soft pigskin (Skin side against her body). The flesh side can get pretty rough if you wear it too much.

    I hope you are still monitoring this site. This is really cool stuff. I am interested in the video of how make the body form out of cellophane and what looks like newspaper. Of particular interests is addressing the size and curvature of the breasts. You used a tool to make the breast cups...what was that? Looked like a plumming plunger and some kind of metal ring. Thanks for the video.

    • @DrawbridgeProps
      @DrawbridgeProps  Před 2 lety

      Plastic the person with self cling food wrap. Cut up both sides from side hip to armpit. Tape back together and stuff. The forms are for black smithing called dishes. The round part is a stake I made from the bottom of a oxygen bottle. I cut and welded it back together to make the ball shape. It’s filled with sand.

      @@DrawbridgeProps The black smithing dishes or forms...do you or would you use different diameter/depths for a woman with a larger chest? Or is a onesize fits all? Someplace to buy those blacksmithing dishes? Very interesting approach, combining skills from multiple craft. Thanks.

      for the binding I used my walking foot consew rb-206 1980's made in japan. I has had the motor replaced with a servo motor for nice slow stitching through thick material. For the big stitching across the breast I used the Cobra Class 4. We also have a walking foot juki and two tippmann bosses in the shop.
