This is the closest video I've found so far to what I need... Well made video.
Thank you very much for this fantastic video. Learned more than I was hoping for. Special thanks for diagrams and secret amp location . nothing better than hidden amp placement. Also easy to access for adjustments.
I just had Best Buy install a Kenwood 50x4 amp in with the JBL Club 6.5” door speakers, it sounds great! Gonna get the spare tire sub next. My GF has Best Buy total tech support and they install for free! I paid for the wires, door mounts, amp, and speaker, so paid about $300/$350, well worth it!
Did they do a good job? I have been wanting to get it done as this looks way too complicated for me lol
I am planning on doing the same thing with my 2024Rav4 hybrid. Just where exactly did you mount your amp ?
Thanks for the comment. Seems like at $179 for the year membership can pay itself in the installment plus other plan benefits.
I feel like i’m watching an audio install at a nightclub with this song! Like it.
I cringe at my early videos. Getting better. :)
Alright what is this song. Im going to run it through my 800 watt sub and pound out the car!
Great stuff man! I will be doing this on my rav4!
Have fun!
@@Rav4Gen5 How come you don't want to amplify the dash speakers? Would you also avoid this even if you got more powerful 3.5in speakers in the dash?
No don't
Time for some sick beats!
Hec yea!!
You should use a soldering iron and heat-shrink, especially if your videos are going to be the standard everyone uses to do their installs. It takes up much less space than those bulky connectors and provides a much better connection physically and electronically.
You are definitely right but I also don’t see the majority of people having those tools and skills either. :)
@@Rav4Gen5 If you can't solder, crimping is the next best solution, with no skill needed, and basic tools. Please don't use home electrical connections in an automotive environment.
Nice how does it sound what kind of hi-lo did u use and great work bro 🤔😎😎
Well done would this application work on my 2018 RAV4? Looks about the same
I want to upgrade my jbl premium in my r4p. What would you recommend doing ?
Hello
The low bass signal to rear speaker from original headunit. Did you get any bass wene ading amp and lc , on rear speaker? How did u do?
At 9:08 in the video. I can’t get my 4 gauge wire through the nipple. I’ve tried everything. Hanger, hanger with tape to the wire, even guiding it through and it just pulls in the grommet to the point of pulling it off the opening. Can you provide more detail on how you were able to pass the wire through?
My question is I'm not as electronic savvy . Where can I get this installed any ideas , your installed video is very useful but I need it done for me.
Any competent car audio installer can do this. You'll have to search listings in your local area.
@Rav4Gen5 How come you don't want to amplify the dash speakers? Would you also avoid this even if you got more powerful 3.5in speakers in the dash?
Hey. Great question. The dash speakers are wired a bit more complicated. There is actually another wire from the Data Communications Modules (DCM) that connects to the dash speakers. I did not want to mess with that as I am not competent in that area.
@@Rav4Gen5 Great! thank you for the reply. I will be doing the same! Thanks again for your amazing content
Hi there a bit of a noob on the topic and hoping you can answer this one question: would it make any sense to use a 4 gauge amp wiring kit over an 8 gauge when including the subwoofer into the mix or would there not be any point in this? thanks!
4 gauge will always be better and safer over the 8 gauge. Might be overkill but it’ll be better.
I'm thinking about adding an amplifier to my rav4. Does anyone know what the stock alternator put out for amps?
I don’t but I have a 4x50 watt amp (something like that) and the guy said the JBL club speakers are perfect or it. They’re 50 watts each. He also said the volume on the RAV4 goes to 60, and after 50 volume level, it may get distorted. I won’t push that yet though til I break them in.
Can You please tell me what is the power delivery from the stock radio without amp?
I don't have that information. Sorry.
Rav4Gen5 Nice Video. if we install aftermarket amp on the new RAV4, will this void the warranty in US. please clarify.
You should consult with Toyota about concerns regarding a warranty. Typically, adding aftermarket products do not void warranty.
@@Rav4Gen5 Thanks
I have to connect the speakers. white wire and gray wire which positive and negative ' thanks
white is negative.
Is it safe to hook up 2 different powered subwoofers that have the amps built inside?
It should be fine. I would run wire to the battery and make sure you add a fuse.
Do you not need a line output converter if you're running an amp/after market speakers with a factory head unit?
You can get one if your amp does not have high level inputs.
Don't get the amp in the video. Get something better.
I have been waiting for this video to drop - Thank You! I'm planning on taking the four HU outputs into a 6 channel amp and then using the amp's outputs into the original 4 channel speaker harness. Then adding 2 pairs of output from the balance of the 6 channel amp with new wire from the amp to the dash location. This would provide two connect points at each dash location for the tweeter and mid-woofer (located in the door). 9 wire Speedwire from the HU to the amp, 12 wire copper wire from the amp to behind the HU - and then extending two pairs to the respective dash locations. RAV4World forums has referenced a DCM input on the front right tweeter - is that why you tapped into the door wires?
You have an impressive plan set up. I really wish I knew about this speedwire before. I read about the dcm at rav4world which is why I separated the dash from the door and tapped directly to door. I did not want to mess with that dcm line.
Good luck. Sounds exciting
Are you going to run new speaker wire to the door speaker from the Amp. I'm having a hard time going through the boot in the front never mind the rear speakers boots it's a plug 🤦🏻♂️.
If you have any suggestions please let me know I would appreciate the help. Please take some videos or picture of what you do. Also are you doing this on a Rav4 2019 ?
I'm doing something similar to what you are doing but I'm going straight forward.
I'm hooking up a 4channel amp and a sub.
Thanks to this video I'm definitely going to use the harness used in this video than use the speed wire to hook HU to the Amp for signal I just have to figure out how to run the new speaker wires from the Amp through the boot.🤦🏻♂️
@@asahacic3249 Another option would be to use the Metra 70-1765 & 71-1765 wire harness's to replicate the harness that Rav4Gen5 suggested - behind the HU. I would suggest an easier connect point would be at the dash location itself. On my 2020 RAV4 Hybrid (non-JBL) I used a tweeter harness from eBay (www.ebay.com/itm/For-2016-19-Toyota-Tacoma-Tweeter-Dash-Front-Speaker-Harness-Adapter-Pair/273897971038?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649) which splits the HU source and then (via soldering together) creates a parallel connection to both the tweeter and front door speaker. Subsequent testing by a parity checking device (Amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N419WHY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) revealed that the parity was incorrect on the rear speakers (which could explain a lack of bass response...)
@@asahacic3249 you don't need to go through the boot. Check out my subwoofer install video, you can cut the wire at the pillar and tap into it without having to go through. I also cut the wire for the front door too inside the cabin without having to go through the boot.
@@Rav4Gen5 since Toyota uses the aluminum wiring, is it safe to solder/splice these wires with copper stereo wire? Isn't there a worry about corrosion? BTW excellent videos, been watching as I plan to do something like this with a 2020 Camry non JBL.
How i connect the dashboard speaker? I'm confused i have the soundstream amp 1200 and the sound on 4 speaker is great but i note the dashboard speaker is off why?
In my set up in the video, the dashboard speakers are powered from the head unit. I split the signal going to the front door and the dashboard speaker.
Hi. The wire harness is discontinued! Im having trouble finding the right one for my 2022 Prime. Any advice?
Check out the alternative harness in the description. It should work but I have not confirmed.
Hello. Why did u keep oem speaker in dash? Why not 6,5woofer in door and filter and new tweater in dash?
Wire from amp to door speaker Thene up to tweater?
Im planing to build in my corolla.
The soundstream amp to smal?
Regards from Sweden. 🇸🇪
All of my speakers are upgraded. I am not an audio expert but this seems to work well.
Hello where did you purchase the wiring harness for plug and play I am thinking of doing this . Also if you can tell wich amp you used .
Links are in the description. Do not buy the amp I used. Spend more money and get something better.
@@Rav4Gen5 okay what amp would you recommend ? Because I actually installed alpine type r speakers in my doors and what the best sound I can get and thanks for your info and reply back !
I don't have a recommendation. I world check out other CZcams videos on 4 channel amp. The one I used was good because of its small size and my choice to hide the amp. Sorry I cannot be much more help. I'm not audio expert. People did like soundstream too and it is small
Are the dash and front speaker connector same for 2020 rav4? I’m thinking of slicing the same 2 wire to power from amp side door and radio to dash. Or can the jbl tweeter handle 90-100 rms power from amp? 😂
They are different connectors in my Rav4 which is non-JBL system. Dash are 4 wires since it runs parallel to the front door. You can see more closely in my other videos where I install dashboard and door speakers.
I don't think the tweets can handle that much =]
@@Rav4Gen5 I have the non jbl as well. Thanks your videos have help me a lot.
i have JBL system and want to upgrade new amp and speaker. can you help
I cannot. I am not that competent in this field. You might be able you get more help from the forums. Sorry
Great video 👍!!!!!! Can one use the same wire harness use speedwire/9wire and connect it to the Amp.
I'm surprised you didn't run new speaker wires to the Amp
Hey. Thank You.
Using an 8 wire conductor would make it easier and cleaner to go from HU to AMP. The diameter of the wire should be small enough to send down to AMP thru the instrument panel. I did not have any at time of install. Might be something I revisit.
I only ran new wire to the front doors and didn't have enough wire to go to the rear door so I took the short cut and just went back to the HU to use the wires that Toyota has. I had my wires too long going from HU to amp but oh well.
I was nervous enough to cut the front door wire. Doing that again for the rear would be extra. =]
@@Rav4Gen5 you mentioned that the wire harness you purchased was made for a Camry in the beginning of the video. Is that correct?
@Rav4Gen5 Can you please let me know after install the amp, did you face issue with Auto Start/Stop. is the any sound when we start and stop and engine.
My RAV4 does not have auto start/stop. Sorry. Your amp might turn off when RAV4 turns off depending on how it’s wired.
@@Rav4Gen5 i think all the RAV4 2019 and up has the auto start/stop. its may be disables please check czcams.com/video/370OOxlC5og/video.html
Not all trims in the USA have the auto start/stop button under the climate controls. Mine does not.
@@Rav4Gen5 oh ok, your video are very helpful. you instruction are very clean and understandably for newbee like me. keep up the good work.
I'm a bit confused I want to add a amp to non JBL 6 speaker system 2021 rav4. I want to be able to just use a harness from factory stereo to amp and from amp to factory wiring plug for speakers and not have to splice anything with the speaker wires. Is this possible? I am familiar with doing systems just wondering if there is a harness that will do this? Then just run power ground and remote.
Try this.
tacotunes.com/shop/toyota-camry/plug-play-wire-harnesses-toyota-camry/2018-toyota-camry-add-a-subwoofer-harness-plug-n-play/
Cut the excess wire off for the sub woofer
Cut the harness in half
Connect male side to head unit. Run wire to amp in
Connect female side to Toyota original wire. Run wire to amp out
Good to go
@@Rav4Gen5 Thanks for the replay Love your vids this was a little confusing at points. I was looking at this Taco one wasn't sure if the harness ends would be correct? The one you posted is no longer available. Also looking for amps. Maybe the Soundstream ST4.1200D or the Kicker 45key1804 4 channel. Any suggestions are welcome. soothing that I can fit up front middle area maybe.
Hi! I just notice at 8:24. Is it 4 wires input to amp? Because you already used 4 wires for dash speaker.
And 4 wires as output that need to go back to the head unit? Because the other 4 output is already used for the front speaker.
Thats only a total of of 8 wires from head unit to amplifier not 12? Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you.
Amp takes in 8 wires (4 speakers X 2 Wires each speaker)
The wire harness allows me to take the signal going to the dashboard and split it (1 set to the dashboard, other set to the amp). See the picture
czcams.com/video/f-3oCuXDQOk/video.html
I send 4 wires (2 rear speakers) back up towards the head unit to connect to the wire harness so the signal goes to the rear speaker without me running new wires.
At 8:13. The 4 wires that come up the head unit go into the pin connector with the dashboard speaker to go back into the Toyota speaker wire harness
czcams.com/video/f-3oCuXDQOk/video.html
Ohhh yeah, you’re right. Thank you so much sir.
Also any engine noise what kind of amp and amp did u upgrade any of your speakers if so what kind and what about your dash speakers
You don't need an amp if you are not upgrading the speakers. I upgraded all of my door and dashboard speakers. You can see my other videos for me details. They are all JBL now.
I got JBL already in my limited Rav4 so does that mean I won't need an amp and maybe it's already premium sound system in there or ...
@@codyfrancis4474jbl system already has an 800w amp and 9 speakers, this video is for upgrading the basic system with 6 lousy speakers and no amp.
Hi can I have the harness link where I can buy from please
Hey Sorry. I thought I put it in the description. It is there now. Thanks.
Where can I find that wire harness. That link no longer carries them...
You can try TacoTunes. tacotunes.com/shop/toyota-camry/plug-play-wire-harnesses-toyota-camry/2018-toyota-camry-add-a-subwoofer-harness-plug-n-play/
Any idea where I can get the wire harness kit?
It is not sold anymore, I am exploring alternatives and working with designers to hopefully launch one.
Hi did the amp make a big difference?
Yes if you have aftermarket door speakers. I would get a better amp than why I used in the video.
Hi, anybody have link to the amplified subwoofer?
Lots of options on amazon like this amzn.to/2KnkBzw
Are the dash tweeters connected to the amp? Cuz I feel like if you do the tweeters will blow
In my install in this video, they are not. Dashboard are powered by head unit.
I've watched this at least 15 times. I still don't understand how the HU goes to the dash speakers without going through the amp! 8 wires out of HU to amp - How does the dash speakers go to HU?
ok, so you split the front speaker wires out of HU... send one set to amp and one set to dash speakers? I can do this without a harness correct? I think maybe I'll just run new wire from amp to rear and front doors and do away with the entire set of original wires.
You should never bother with the SRS system in a vehicle. That bolt you pointed at to ground your amp is the bolt that hold your SDM in place (AIR BAG MODULE) that is one module you leave alone
With how sensitive that dash is from experience I wouldn't of put my tools there I'm sure you scratched it
I find it odd how the Rav4 Adventure model differs in each country. Here in New Zealand, the Adventure, Limited, and Limited Hybrid come with the 11 speaker JBL system.
JBL is an optional package here. Certainly different in every country.
Did you mention the white wire for the front speakers is ground? How did you figure?
Yep. Covered in the video where I upgrade the door speaker. I did a polarity test via my phone and did a battery test on the old speaker.
@@Rav4Gen5 Cool, great thanks!
Goodnight, i have a problem, i need the wire harness but the link is descontinue
It’s no longer available. I don’t know what other options are available. :(
Can i use a idatalink hrn rr to3? I have a rav4 2021 xle premium
Do you have a direct link?
I see two amplifiers in this video, what is best? sounstream or ignite?
Sound stream.
In the process of replacing the speakers to JBL
I need someone to hook up a amp. I'm in columbus, ohio
Haha. And he grounds his amp on the Airbag ECU.
Yeap
things get haywire when the narrative goes into connecting this to that, and that to this, and this line to that, and that line to this, and from amp to the HU, and the HU to that speaker, etc...
It happens. Best to go to a professional.
So cool. But a lot of work and way beyond my ability.
600$ I rather than buy JBL Earbud and no noise level when driving.
