You need a dust extractor connected to your sander. That's the best way to minimize dust spreading around.
Great point! We have tried that, and it wasn't as effective as we would like it to be. So we decided to make a downdraft sanding box.
Those grooves will probably pack in with dust eventually and seal themselves!
