I started with GOT when season 6 was already available on DVD. I bought the first three seasons on DVD for 10 € each. At this episode I was already fascinated and the other three seasons followed soon. Then I had to wait until the next season came out. Today I've watched it several times and I still find things I haven't noticed before.

I’m so glad to find your channel. I’m an avid GOT fan books and tv and I love seeing people react to this series. As others have mentioned, it’s really great to see intelligent people watch and really get into the show. I had such a hunger for more and more information and even still learn new things all the time relating to the series. I really enjoy watching your end of the show dialogue and hearing your overall thoughts and emotions in regards to what you’ve seen. 😮. The king (Robert) doesn't really wantto be a king. He just won the throne by rebelling and winning against the royal family (Targaryens). Actually Robert himself is part-Targaryen. His grandmother was a Targaryen so he is second cousin to Daenerys and Viserys. That makes him the closest relative to the former royal family, aside from the fact that he started a rebellion.

    • @bastiancalderon2807

@@bastiancalderon2807 Yes, in the book, Jon Arryn and Ned stated that RObert was the best one to be king as he was the closest relative of the Targaryens though he did win the throne by'conquest'. It is easier for the lords and the common folk to accept a close relation of the former royal family (as is the case with real history). He is a great-gradson of King Aegon V so he has king's blood as Melissandre always said to Stannis.

I'm not sure about the mad king but if there were any, they might've been killed as Robert hated his Targaryen cousins. Though in the book, there is one that claims to be Rhaegar's son. It is, however, speculated that he is a Blackfyre. The Blackfyres were Targaryens who descended from a bastard-born Targaryen that rebelled against their trueborn cousins but was believed to be extinct after Barristan Selmy killed its last claimant.

@@EgoJinpachi_ In general bastards have no birthrights however in GOT the king can legitimize a bastard by royal decree. It's a rare event however as this tends to be destabilizing in a feudal system.
Historically, Henry VIII's eldest son was a bastard. Henry gave him a title of nobility, a duke, and referred to him as a prince in some writings however the royal title never stuck and parliament never approved of him which is how England came be ruled by a regency for Henry's younger but only legitimate son after Henry's death.

10:57 Thats the right way to think when watching this show. Consider every possibility of what is real and what is not because very often it will matter. Somethings are lies and some things are true. Because this is based on a very descriptive novel, there are important details and metaphors of answers and things to come. I'd even argue most every line is important, not a single line of dialogue is wasted until at least mid season 5.

There are two other categories: 1) things people think are true that are not. 2) things that are based on truth but are then interpreted in very different ways. Example of 1) Tyrion believes that the White Walkers are just a myth along with actual mythological creatures like grumpkins and snarks but we see in the opening sequence of ep1 that the White Walkers are very real indeed. There's no good example of 2) yet but without spoiling anything, there will be events that occur in the series that defy rational explanation but that will not stop different people providing explanations that coincide with their belief systems.

    Small notes:
    1. Time in this show isn't linear. Events aren't happening in the sequence you see in each episode. Some events are happening at roughly the same time. Some other events happen with significant separation of time. Sometimes the scene you are watching now happened before the scene or location you watched before the current one. It's up to you to piece the timeline together as best as you can. You've seen Pulp Fiction so you understand this concept.
    2. The Narrow Sea that separates the two major continents, Essos (Targaryens and Dothraki) from Westeros (the rest of the story) as almost as large as the North Atlantic that separates Western Europe from North America. The 'narrow' descriptor is a relative term.

The funny thing is as Lord of Bear Island Mormont could have punished the poachers in almost any other way he chose. People measured time according to what made sense to them. The day is a basic unit of measure for everyone but in a temperate or polar zone, measuring time by year is just as important for agricultural purposes while in warmer climates where there is little seasonal change , measuring by months may make more sense. In the GOT universe there are seasons but they are not predictable. They have the concept of year but it not a seasonal one.

Despite being categorized as a so called fantasy show, and having some story lines related to that genre, I think GOT is quite real and not too
far removed from reality. It ruined the Lord of the Ring saga for me, the movies not the books. They're too cgi dependent and mostly devoid of true
    human motivations and character complexity.

Yeah, I think it's just a different type of story telling they both obviously exist in their own realities and depend more or less like you said in different relation to a "real life" experience, but I personally like LOTR (Its my favorite universe) for that reason that it feels so detached from anything real, probably because real life is all to much what I am used to, and when I escape into these universes, anything that is the polar opposite of our reality is what draws me in the most. Anything to take me the absolute farthest away from where I am watching. That's just me tho.

@@ImmersiveReactions Sansa is only 13 at this point and is quite spoiled, however I think it's a bit unfair to say she got the butcher's boy killed. Prince Joffrey claimed the butcher's boy attacked him and for a commoner to do that is death. It's a lie of course but since he's the prince, it's his word that is believed. The prince also claims Arya attacked him, which is also untrue, however this is another matter entirely. For one thing, Arya is a highborn lady, and so her word is as valid as the prince's. For another, she's a little girl and most of Westerosi society is patriarchal so Joffrey admitting to being disarmed by a little girl is deeply shameful to him and King Robert. Because of this the king wants to resolve the matter swiftly and quietly. Sansa does lie about not knowing what happened however by then it was already too late to save the butcher's boy.
