- Just a little not-so-constructive criticism for some of our favourite profs...

Has there ever been an english prof that doesn't have a 'weird' obsession with a writer who has been dead for 500 years?! Like... how do you think she got into lit? It's her job to be obsessed with dead writers.
I'm a big fan of her personality and would love to have her as a professor
lmao i had her as a prof and she is obsessed with milton its her area of study. its not a bad thing though but it made her lectures super long

Maggie Kilgour, the literature professor, seems like she would be an absolute scream to have as a professor. She seems energetic as heck, pretty witty, and very passionate about her discipline. Those professors are always delightful.

Hi Ryan. I conducted this interview. Maggie is the best and she was my professor. Tough but so passionate and kind. At the end of the interview, I told her that these were mostly sarcastic reviews, and that we were delighted to have her as a professor! :)

professor kilgour did NOT deserve the disrespect, I will personally scrap with whoever wrote the last comment. like yeah, it's a breakneck course that is difficult, but she is the sweetest and most enthusiastic prof!

The thing is most of these reviews are just listing criticisms of their character and not actually any objective facts of genuine things the teachers did that created a barrier to your learning e.g. not available during office hours, doesn’t reply to emails or took unreasonable amount of time to reply, or actual displays of toxic or offensive or abusive behaviour, or refusal to explain course content in alternative ways, or refusing learning accommodations, or really chronically late to class or going over class time. You can’t criticize someone for being weird. - McGill alumni
The criticism about going over the end of class was legit. That would piss me off too.
a professors character can absolutely be a barrier to learning
you can criticize someone on whatever you want, if their character is a detriment to your learning ability then it may be to other as well.

I really really felt a connection to the english prof. I think she'd be my go-to for good talks about long dead men and weird linguistical sentences in poems. I dig her, she's crazy energy like me :)
All of them are so well mannered. Will be joining McGill this fall. Eager to meet with my new teachers an classmates soon.

@@Hope-jb1og apparently francophones hate it when you speak English to them in Quebec. Some people even pretend they don't understand English. Yea it's that bad. Heard many stories about it. Check out some interviews with mcgill students if you don't believe me.

this makes me sad. I feel like most people just write reviews without thinking about how the professors would feel if they ever got to read them. Kind of heartbreaking to hear such disrespect :(
Professor Vollrath has such a calming voice, watching her lecture recordings really helps me relax while I learn about physiology :))

Only respect, honor and appreciation for the people that try to transform semi-conscious, mindless, know-it-alls into intellectual, articulated, critical thinkers, useful members of our society. They deserve respect, a word of encouragement and a raise.
