I feel like when compared to everything Sentai has been doing since Zenkaiger, Kamen Rider has been relatively safe. Which works for now, but I don’t think it will last forever. I guess to me seeing Gotchard and then King-Ohger’s new episode made me realize how much Sentai is really trying to push the limits of a weekly toku show while Gotchard is just like “eh it’s Wizard fused with fourze”

Haven't seen Gotchard's premiere yet (or Geats's finale lol) so I don't have any thoughts on it yet. But it seems like to me that people want Rider to do what Sentai has been doing, aka setting everything on fire and doing something really different lol
I mean king ohger is defitely peak sentai while donbros is peak dramatic comedy. Having a season like build or drive again would be great for rider right now.
Kinda. Having new ideas is just part of equation having a plan to how the new dinamic plays off and pulling off this plan are other parts that saber really did not have. Think more on early 01 before the thouser Arc.
@@MrRobot-0 gotchard seems to be peak mediocreness, there's absolutely zero "oomph" factor when watching it, compared to Donbrothers, or Kingohger, or even Zenkaiger's pilot episode, there doesn't seem any attempt on being different here, aside from the all female villain group, which was a first for Rider(if you don't count Neo Black Satan from the Girls Remix spinoff)
@@tedjomuljono3052 Yeah, and it's likely the reason of the general reaction for the series being more or less an "eh?". It can be a great series the same way kiramager became a great sentai an proto king ohger afther they dropped the whole "leader" thing pre hiatus. But im not holding my breath for a build level show.
It feels way to soon to fully judge a show based on just the premiere alone. Hell some of the KR series I’ve watched I didn’t fully get into until I was 12-15 episodes deep, but then I was IN. Only time will tell, but I’ve been super excited for this series and I felt like a kid watching my saturday morning cartoons again.
My whole thing is that first episode is that, while it has some moving parts, it is extremely reminiscent of Fourze, just with (as far as I know) less experienced actors Suffice to say, I would have reacted better if I watched this when I was also in high school lol
Lemme tell you right now Marco... You are probably the nicest toku critic I've ever seen, lol, what makes engaging with fandoms exhausting for me is that it's impossible to talk about stuff in good faith because fanbases are always torn in half, something is either the BEST thing ever, or it's the WORST mistake to ever happen and shame on you for liking it. You not feeling gotchard is actually ok! It's fair, even valid, lol, if we stay in Reiwa, so far this is the most "chill" premiere episode for a Reiwa show, compared to Aruto saving a theme park, Touma saving an entire neighborhood, Ikki saving his family, and Ace remaking the ENTIRE FREAKING PLANET, so I can see why people aren't feeling the hype, I actually had to spend some time to digest it myself! But in my case... I'm just gonna keep watching because I want to see where it goes, I'm going to enter my mid 30s in 6 months, and let me tell you, at this point in my life I have lost the ability to care if the media I watch is fully hyping me up or not, Gotchard right now is going for a slow burn lighthearted kind of story, and that is scratching all the right itches for me, and that alone feels enough to wake up early sunday to catch the subs early. Keep up the good work!
I guess its just the more younger character and the whole "Catchphrase-y" nature of our mc is just a hard thing to get behind, kinda like Kengo from Trigger with "Smile Smile" which make me hope that he doesn't say "Gotcha" at everything, when its like a phrase or something he says every time he transforms its fine, but if its what he says at everything its gonna get old real quick, there are very few of this style of catchphrases that goes well, for example "Best Match" is good and not overused so please don't use "Gotcha" in Gotchard like how "Smile Smile" is used in Trigger And even if compared to Fourze maybe its just the style of it, there is a slight difference
Geats not perfect but still the best Reiwa shows for me, and for that reason Gotchard feels so normal and weird, the protagonist is interesting enough I guess, the henshin is nicer than preview, the fight is good. But that's about it the world building doesn't grab me like Zero One, Saber, Revice and Geats does. Still gonna watch it for couple more episode though.
I'm very new to this franchise, and I've watched only a handful of seasons all the way through. I am very interested in Gotchard because of the alchemy motif. Even though they already dropped the misinformation that the goal of alchemy was to turn various metals--lead in particular--into gold, I am interested in how deep the references go; they've already referenced those cryptic diagrams of birds flying in and out of beakers, so the references can only go deeper.
I on the other hand has been enjoying the Reiwa era. Zero-One is my favorite Kamen Rider. I was looking forward to Gotchard because the suit design really caught my attention and i enjoyed episode 1. Also the Reiwa era of Kamen Rider has definitely impressed me on the effects side.
I like how the camera quality just dropped during the fight scenes while other scenes are great quality. Threw me off a bit but the fights were nice and the suit looks great.
I don't think it's age, I'm about 25 years older than you and I thought it was great. Maybe what you want from shows has changed? Or maybe your tastes have changed? Or maybe it could take time for you to get into it/back into it?
i hate that i am too not feeling good with Gotchard. i wanted to give this series some support outside the toy but maybe geats have too much of an impact on me to move on. i will follow this for few weeks to see
I think one of the larger problems here is that 'eh, it's fine' REALLY isn't the note you want to be hitting on a premiere. I like the suit and am theoretically on board with a high school setting KR, I love Fourze, ffs. But I feel like there wasn't quite enough to compel me about the characters right out the gate. I didn't actively dislike the main from the first moment like I did with Geats but it was just... another one. I'd be a bit more worried about my fading love for Toku if not for the fact that I'm absolutely obsessed for King-Ohger right now. Having a 'fine' episode lined up beside what we got this week with KO is just a bit unfair.
I liked it, it seemed like a standard KR 1st episode. Which compared to Geats and its 1st episode is lackluster. I cant really say whether or not I'll actually watch the season until like episode 5-10. Side note, idk what the comment sections issue with the main character is. We've seen him once and it was fine. 😂
I’m new to watching Kamen rider regularly. I’m just finishing up Geats related shows and movies, but I’ve watched some anniversary movies for Revice and Zi-Oh. I wanna watch Zero-One next. And I wanna watch Gotchard after since the concept is cool and the Geats Movie with Gotchard is cool, MINUS Gotchard himself. This main character… is like what an old mangaka thinks a young Shonen protag should act like. As a Yugioh fan, he’s Yuma Tsukumo done worse.
Gotchard I like a lot, but at the same time I do have that I am getting old thing, but towards the main cast in Reiwa. Like I would look at how old the main actors are since like Zi-O era and be like damn they are like slightly younger than me what am I doing with my life 😂
Lord, I hope this isn't gonna be a Ghost situation where the suits are spectacular but the rest is lacking. Btw, is it me or is the suit heavily inspired by the video game character Rocket Knight?
So it's not just me feeling like that about reiwa lol while i can see how people can enjoy the reiwa entries (as most people prefer things that are newer, this isn't news), i don't get as attached to reiwa rider as i do to early heisei. i have enjoyed reiwa rider (i love the themes that geats covers + i love the revice character dynamics), but it is difficult to fully attach and resonate with the "vibe" of reiwa; the cinematography and subgenre shifts that happened in the late 2000s-early 2010s just arent my cup of tea. I guess i just prefer the drama/suspense feel of early heisei (but mostly kuuga-hibiki), which makes sense considering i got into kamen rider fresh out of a taiwanese drama phase lol however, i feel like i can get behind gotchard. i like the motifs and i feel like the characters have a potential to grow on me (if some of the actors improve their delivery); if i can watch fourze in uni then i dont feel like gotchard will be too much of an issue. i want to see where the alchemy theme goes with the cinematography, since geats intrigued me because of the plot development (only after 20 episodes) despite the cinematography being nothing notable for me.
My thought on the first episode: It was...NICE. I kinda know what's coming from a far. I wasn't gotten hit that hard personally. The lifeless portrayal doesn't hit me so bad (Accept Kudo. Man! She's that bad at acting!). The main hero is shown of his naiveness through his acting. I kinda forgive him on that. The CG is cheesy as usual-especially with the transforming sequence to which I thought "does it need to go that far?-with the chemical jar and everything?" But the rest of it, the 3 devil (sisters?) are well done. Protagonist's mother is gem to me. The old dude who died without any backstory being told is ok at acting-(but again-the flipping BACK STORY!!). I gave it C+. I don't have high hope of it. But it did somehow impress me in a good way. FORGET : I know that this show is directed by the same guy who directed Ghost and Saber. So, it's obvious to me that the first episode has his signature written all over the episode. Play safe. Set up the world. It's a meh to me, but I didn't hate it as much as I did the first episode of Saber.
From what i see its okay. It seem to be a slow burn so idk..i might come back to ot after 10 episode or so but for now I'll just watch blazar and king ohger weekly
Now that Gotchard is almost halfway over, my thoughts are relatively the same as they were when this series was first starting. I think it has a lot of cool moments, but the overall show feels a little all-over-the-place, and I don't completely understand where it's heading. It's much more "monster of the week" than Geats was, and I think that's great, I loved that style when I was watching through OOOs. But the main three villains feel extremely underwhelming, like there's never been a time where they really overpowered the main characters and showed themselves as a threat. They feel like they're bumbling around, barely managing to keep up with Gotchard's power. The main character himself doesn't draw me in at all either; his whole schtick is that he loved Chemies the moment he came across them, and wants to be friends with them all, but all I can ask is "but why?".
To me, Gotchard’s trailer made the show look super boring. The setting looks boring, the characters looks boring, the villains looks boring. I was expecting to see every student trading cards and stuff instead I got a middle aged man getting ganged by goth brats. A part of me wanted Steamliner to finish the job.
For me dude I enjoyed it I liked the suit I liked the alchemy stuff idk remind me of Yugioh and Pokémon cards collecting all the chemie cards . Now I hope wit this show compared to Geats their isn’t too many riders cuz I love Geats but it was way too many riders in that show.
Reiwa is pretty underwhelming for me. Gotchard is actually getting me back in a bit because it feels like a early Neo Heisei show and I'm down for that.
I feel the same with you Marco. It just don't give any hype for me. I think that they should just step back a little on the overly recycled idea/gimmick from previous shows and make new innovative one instead. It would be refreshing to see.
I didn't get past episode 2 of Saber and 1 of Revice. Sets feel uninhabited and the pacing is choppy. Maybe COVID had something to do with it. Was also not sold on the fights and characters. I'd say that it's not a quality-focus shift. It's a quality drop. I was well into my adulthood when I watched Build and it was great. Reiwa, so far, is not.
You know I haven't had a burn out with Kamen Rider yet because I'm spacing stuff out. (Something I should have learned with modern sentai) perhaps you need to take a break.
I don’t think you’re getting too old. I just got into Kamen Rider this year at age 28, and have been watching non stop (8 series in the past couple of months). I think that the first couple of episodes of Gotchard just haven’t been that good (episode 2 was a step up from 1 though). The actors are very young and honestly just not that great at their craft yet. The plot has started off quite generic (basically just cardcaptor sakura), and the characters are stock anime stereotypes so far. Nothing about it seems particularly unique or original. It still has plenty of time to improve, but I think it’s perfectly fine to admit you’re not that into it thus far.
I didn't like the suit and and gimmick when they announced it. After watching it I'd say it's entertaining. And seeing the suit in action it immediately grew on me. I get strong build crossed with blade, and sprinkle of ex aid energy
To me it just feels like the Reiwa era doesn’t focus as much on the overarching plot as much as it focuses on making 1000 forms so they can sell more toys. I know the show was always made to sell toys, but after shows like Ex-Aid, Gaim, Build, and all the other seasons that had amazing plots it feels like we’re just getting joke time all the time instead of anything with depth
Is that really the case? I'd saythe entirety of Geats and Revice (for a while after the Daiji arc started) were way more plot focused than the first halves of W or Fourze (which are all I've seen of those atm). Gotchard just seems like a return to the slow buildup of episodic adventures we had from early Heisei 2 and even somo of late Heisei 1.
As soon as I saw Hotaro’s dad’s face blocked out, I actually groaned out loud. I’m so sick of that trope. I feel like I may be watching this show purely on aesthetics alone cause I adore the suit design.
Ngl, every rider season I watched was engaging from the first episode. Gaim, Zi-o, W, Ex-aid and all reiwa ones. All of them were fun. The first episode already made it clear that the show is going to be at least a bit interesting and sparked my curiousity, that's the case for all seasons I mentioned. But Gotchard... It wasn't that interesting. I will watch it to see how good it will be, but at the same time, it was really unclear and boring. Nothing in the show made me *really* curious about this, the protagonist is boring and empty. Build is in the same boat. I wasn't able to bring myself to watch it. The first episode was really boring and I don't want to watch through half of the show until it becomes better. I hope that Gotchard will be more interesting from the next episode, but so far, I don't think I will like this as much as previous reiwa seasons. Would be a shame if it ends up not picking up the pace.
I don't feel like its a Reiwa thing, at least for me, because Zero-One and Geats especially were fantastic and I despite its flaws really enjoyed Revice and even Saber was decent and an improvement over Ghost. But between the lack of hype, overuse of CGI, bad greenscreen, characters that don't make much of an impact in their introductions, I just feel like so far Gotchard has been weak, which sucks with how incredible Geats was beginning to end, though maybe it's just Takahashi's talent as a showrunner.
Although gotchard is a fine kamen rider show, I don't know. Its just not my cup of tea. Suit looks cool tho but the mc in my opinion is i don't know what to describe it, cringe i guess.
Gotchard feels like a NickJr show for kids who are new to Kamen Rider. Very PreK rated and too babyish compared to much more invigorating and exciting KR shows such as KR Amazon, Skyrider 1979, and KR Black.
"Gotchard is too BaByIsH compared to KR Black" Literally the other plot of Kamen Rider Black besides that BORING Golgom plot: **SAVING KIDS BACK AND FORTH IN EVERY. SINGLE. EPISODE!** Also the words invigorating, and exciting shouldn't be associated with KR Black cuz that series is a SNOOZE FEST the plot is so BORING i decided to stop watching it for like a few episodes because the first 5 minutes of the series PUTS ME TO SLEEP Edit: Lastly the series that you've mentioned heavily relies on the Showa era Say, are you a *SALTY KR BOOMER WHO CAN'T STILL MOVE ON ON A SHOW WHO'S MAIN DEMOGRAPHIC ARE JAPANESE KIDS* by any chance?
You do know that Kamen Rider is...a kid's show right? Ever since the first ever 1971 series, sidenote, skyrider is the worst of the showa series, an absolute snooze fest.
@@Marcosatsu It was surprising to me it was 2 good seasons in a row too [Gaim + Forze] Gotchard just seemed like "Oh it's a bit Harry Potter and a bit these are the KR cards you'll be collecting this year" OK Forze was a bit "What Switch have we got this week" Sell-a-toy, but I was into the charas enough I didn't mind as much
@@LordDecader_Edits Nah I would disagree. Even if you think the show is bad, at least the plot is going at a good pace(looking at you Saber) and the show doesn't randomly shit on itself in the second half(looking at you Revice). It's a strong show and I'm liking it so far.

Didn't Saber did that in a borderline way already?
@@tedjomuljono3052
Yeah, and it's likely the reason of the general reaction for the series being more or less an "eh?".
It can be a great series the same way kiramager became a great sentai an proto king ohger afther they dropped the whole "leader" thing pre hiatus. But im not holding my breath for a build level show.
my initial reaction to episode 1 was blade meets zi-o meets digimon, idk if that entirely makes sense, but I stand by my statement lol
My whole thing is that first episode is that, while it has some moving parts, it is extremely reminiscent of Fourze, just with (as far as I know) less experienced actors
Suffice to say, I would have reacted better if I watched this when I was also in high school lol
I guess its just the more younger character and the whole "Catchphrase-y" nature of our mc is just a hard thing to get behind, kinda like Kengo from Trigger with "Smile Smile" which make me hope that he doesn't say "Gotcha" at everything, when its like a phrase or something he says every time he transforms its fine, but if its what he says at everything its gonna get old real quick, there are very few of this style of catchphrases that goes well, for example "Best Match" is good and not overused so please don't use "Gotcha" in Gotchard like how "Smile Smile" is used in Trigger
And even if compared to Fourze maybe its just the style of it, there is a slight difference
Even though they already dropped the misinformation that the goal of alchemy was to turn various metals--lead in particular--into gold, I am interested in how deep the references go; they've already referenced those cryptic diagrams of birds flying in and out of beakers, so the references can only go deeper.
im exited for gotchard sadly i cant access any kamen rider show because of my country but im still hype
I watched the first episode and its not terrible but it doesnt have that WOW factor. They played it too safe
there's a bit of irony dividing heisei and reiwa................ it's that i can't tell the difference between the 2 unlike other eras
One thing for sure is that they improved one aspect in the Reiwa compared to Hesei is the fight corepgraphy and the camera work.
It's kinda tempting to ask Marcos if he'll start reviewing Precure because toei big three yk 😂
It's Kamen Rider fatigue. I've been there! Take a little break and come back.
I had the opposite thought, "this show makes me feel like a kid again."
Where did you get that ToQger jakcwt
I love Gotchard's suit the metallic looks fresh
I like how the camera quality just dropped during the fight scenes while other scenes are great quality. Threw me off a bit but the fights were nice and the suit looks great.
I don't think it's age, I'm about 25 years older than you and I thought it was great.
Maybe what you want from shows has changed? Or maybe your tastes have changed? Or maybe it could take time for you to get into it/back into it?
I at least expect from you to make a gotchard pack unboxing
Wait, you got married?! Congrats, but at the same time, how did I not know about this already?
i hate that i am too not feeling good with Gotchard. i wanted to give this series some support outside the toy but maybe geats have too much of an impact on me to move on. i will follow this for few weeks to see
will part 2 of bionicle ever come out?
Legacy of Showa Kamen Riders would be awesome
So it's not just me feeling like that about reiwa lol
while i can see how people can enjoy the reiwa entries (as most people prefer things that are newer, this isn't news), i don't get as attached to reiwa rider as i do to early heisei. i have enjoyed reiwa rider (i love the themes that geats covers + i love the revice character dynamics), but it is difficult to fully attach and resonate with the "vibe" of reiwa; the cinematography and subgenre shifts that happened in the late 2000s-early 2010s just arent my cup of tea.
I guess i just prefer the drama/suspense feel of early heisei (but mostly kuuga-hibiki), which makes sense considering i got into kamen rider fresh out of a taiwanese drama phase lol
however, i feel like i can get behind gotchard. i like the motifs and i feel like the characters have a potential to grow on me (if some of the actors improve their delivery); if i can watch fourze in uni then i dont feel like gotchard will be too much of an issue. i want to see where the alchemy theme goes with the cinematography, since geats intrigued me because of the plot development (only after 20 episodes) despite the cinematography being nothing notable for me.
I love Gotchard
3 months later... Damn... Its bad...
@@LordDecader_Edits Has it gotten worse? Last time I saw a clip from it, people were using belts from Zi-O, Geats, and another show.
I know what you feel. We're getting old. I've dropped it.
For me, it’s Blazar Saturdays. Because of the English dub.
Reiwa is pretty underwhelming for me. Gotchard is actually getting me back in a bit because it feels like a early Neo Heisei show and I'm down for that.
I know it’s just 1 episode thus far, but I fear for Rider burnout again from Saber. 😩
The suit was so pretty and shiny and beautiful and it’s probably the best reiwa suit ever and it’s amazing
Oh yeah the show exists also
I feel the same with you Marco. It just don't give any hype for me. I think that they should just step back a little on the overly recycled idea/gimmick from previous shows and make new innovative one instead. It would be refreshing to see.
GOTCHANKO
YOU HAVE A WIFE?! I thought bro was like 16 😭😭😭
I didn't get past episode 2 of Saber and 1 of Revice.
Damn Marco a Heisei boomer
🙏🙏🙏
I didn't like the suit and and gimmick when they announced it. After watching it I'd say it's entertaining. And seeing the suit in action it immediately grew on me. I get strong build crossed with blade, and sprinkle of ex aid energy
Look like Yu-gi-oh card
you see marcos its not that your a boomer its just really hard to like toku when blazer fridays exist
It's not the series that i would recommend to someone who is new to a rider series. Like yeah it's not that of a banger like the previous series
Bandai demands it
Is that really the case? I'd saythe entirety of Geats and Revice (for a while after the Daiji arc started) were way more plot focused than the first halves of W or Fourze (which are all I've seen of those atm).
Gotchard just seems like a return to the slow buildup of episodic adventures we had from early Heisei 2 and even somo of late Heisei 1.
Ex aid literally falls apart after the first arc, wdym
Gotchard is Yu-Gi-Oh
Would be a shame if it ends up not picking up the pace.
the main problem in gotchard is the main character (until we see a berserk form)

Its is cringe... Even now 7 months later... I swear its really bad overall

Gotchard feels like a NickJr show for kids who are new to Kamen Rider. Very PreK rated and too babyish compared to much more invigorating and exciting KR shows such as KR Amazon, Skyrider 1979, and KR Black.

Also the words invigorating, and exciting shouldn't be associated with KR Black cuz that series is a SNOOZE FEST the plot is so BORING i decided to stop watching it for like a few episodes because the first 5 minutes of the series PUTS ME TO SLEEP

You do know that Kamen Rider is...a kid's show right? Ever since the first ever 1971 series, sidenote, skyrider is the worst of the showa series, an absolute snooze fest.
