  • Just a few tips to help you get sharp skates. If you have any questions we didn't address in the video, feel free to comment below or send us a tweet @dgskating
    Tips not in the video:
    1) When sharping straight back and forth, remember to slowly move your stone to both side to prevent the blades from digging into one spot on the stone over time.

Hi, do you start with the red or the blue side?

"I don't use different stones for different blades per say. I use different stones at different stages. The carbide bit helps rip off lots of burr when rockering, rough stones during the sharpening stage, and finer stones during the polishing stage. I also have a lot of stones because I like to try everything on the market." Reece

was that dimond stone red (fine) and blue(course)?
was the other diamond stone for polishing? (green)?

The diamond stones have different levels of grit. Black is the most coarse, then blue, red, green. The green stone will provide a pretty good polish, but something like a marble stone would be a better polish.

Mark Diaz i do short track so from my experience (ive skated for 2 years) you dont have to sharpen but you won't get any grip where if you sharpen them you will get more grip

This is confusing to me as someone who sharpens knives. I don't see how there is an angle created. If I sharpened a knife this way, I'd be eliminating the edge entirely. Is there no edge? No two angles coming to an edge?

Well the cross section of the skate is rectangular, so actually the bottom is completely flat ao that the skates glide with no friction and the skater uses the 2 90 degree angles created on the side of the skate to get grip and turn

Nope everything is the same. The goal is just to get a nice square edge.
