Nick is the most "real" guitar CZcamsr. He shows a lot of the not so flashy parts of sitting and recording music by yourself and I love it. Watching your videos reminds me of many long nights where I have been at my recording desk trying to nail that 2 minute part. It is not as easy as most people picture it. You are an inspiration man. Gonna be a bit but I hope I can one day make vids like yours. Loving the DT content btw.

To be fair - Pantera’s Domination has the same breakdown at the end haha. But you gotta listen to the whole song to get the full effect. The tension buildup right into it is insane. And it must be played very loud.

sounds sick! your meshuggah comment made me want to look up their early stuff to find when they went low. the selfcaged ep they went to A#/Bb what i saw on wiki was "The Selfcaged EP was recorded in April and May 1994, but its release was delayed to later in 1995 due to the accidents (Thordendal) chopped off part of his middle finger on a router apparently. the more you know lol
My favorite Dream theater riff by far! First heard it on Once in a Live time (acid puppies i think?) and then went on to buy Awake, still my favorite DT Album today :)

Ha in 1994 Meshuggah released the none ep which was probably even more ridiculous than what Dreamtheater was doing! Absolutely wack how far ahead DT and Meshuggah were in the early-mid 90’s
Meshuggah's None EP had Aztec Two Step which gives me the same stankface feel. Awake came out a month before but if we take time to mix and master in to account I'd say we can call it a tie :)

We (I used to play in a Metallica Tribute Band for Years) also jammed on this Track during rehersals & Soundchecks, just like your Dad, simply because the Metric-Modulation is so, so cool. I got one question for you: Any particular reason, so kept Eurobass in your writing template and did not replace it with the Nolly Bass library? I also got both of them so I´m wondering what your thoughts are on how they compare?
The SubMission Audio stuff is a bit more versatile than Nolly since there are more articulations and realistic programming capabilities. Nolly does sound fantastic though!

I've had a burning question since the first video of yours that I saw: What do you tune the 8th string to when you're using a 7-string tuning? (drop F# for example) Is it in unison with the 7th string or is it lower?
