Thank you for the very informative video. I have hives with occasional angioedema of either upper or lower lip for almost a year now. At first, I thought I got bitten by some microscopic mites on my old job, because it all started when the office where I work was being renovated and the ceiling was broken to fix some leak from upstairs. It is about a week after that I started getting bitten at first on my feet and then literally, through my clothing.the building is more than a 100years old so imagine what kind of pests can possibly be lurking between the walls and ceilings.of course, the hole in the ceiling was left open for the next 3 months, and I continued to get bitten worse and worse, until one evening,my upper lip blew up making me look like Daisy Duck, the next day I went to the doctor, who had no idea what was wrong, but he gave me a liquid steroid and a prescription for prednisone .of course everything went back to normal as soon as I drank the liquid steroid. I then started taking the prednisone for the next week,as I was only given 10 pills. I don’t take any medication whatsoever so you can imagine how much I hated having to take the prednisone. I took 8 of the 10 pills and I was ok,but I wasn’t taking them daily, only as needed.when I stopped taking them ,3days later the hives and angioedema came back with a vengeance, and I have been suffering continuously ever since then.a local pharmacist told me I should take Zyrtec for the hives and angioedema. I followed his advice and have been able to somewhat control the hives , and I don’t really get angioedema that much anymore, but the hives are still a nuisance. I take 2 gêner Zyrtecs every 2 or 3 days, otherwise I would scratch myself to death, because the hives are very itchy.what do you recommend? I really hate medication and I have no intention to take antihistamines for the rest of my life. I am 50years old,and I have this problem for almost a year now, I have never had any allergies in my life, except a suspected tomato allergy (but that was self inflicted, I love tomatoes and overdosed on them, but I haven’t had a raw tomato in 25 years).please help!!!

I have this problem in the past year. My symptoms started with itchy on some part of my body and eventually felt itchiness from head to toe. Once I reached this stage I went into serve drowsiness and vision completely blurred. Taking anti histamine medication helped me recovered every time I had this attack. I am not sure what is wrong with my condition which seems serious.

You probably have a severe allergic reaction to something. If it is happening episodically, please make a trigger diary. You might not get these symptoms if you can avoid the trigger. Watch this video for common triggers. But the list is not exhaustive!

I only get hives in my face! It’s miserable. I thought it was a hair product. However it occurred again on Christmas for the first time after about 7 of 8 months. Only thing I can think different was the flu shot, I washed my hair with new product, or the Lima beans I ate. I’ve had flare up for 2 days straight now. I took citrizine tonight. Hoping it helps! Wondering should I get allergy test??

Take cetrizine for altleast 10 days to stop acute episode once for all. If you are getting episodic hives, allergy test might help.

I get hives about every 4 to 6 weeks. All over my body, scalp, up my nose, in my ears and down my throat. They have lasted up to 2 weeks. I have them now as we speak. I am going on 5 days. Most of my hives are internal, but I do get some that surface. I have tried benadryl, zyrtec, singular, prednisone and nothing seems to help. I have even gone as far as try the brand" Aveeno" in the shampoo, body wash and lotion. So far no results. My itching really gets bad at night.

This could indicate cholinergic urticaria, which means once your body heats up ...you get hives. But just walking is not a usual trigger. If hives are getting better, then the up-dosing of medication by your doctor would control them.

We can’t find reason in urticaria cases that go on such long. However, you might have triggers that can exacerbate your episodes.
Better to take anti histaminic regularly than take steroids
