The registration issue is not just mechanical in nature. Meaning the complete release and need to reinsert the page a second time. There is another source for this registration error that is a lot harder to control. A laser printer fuses the toner to the page using a heat source (ie. a fuser). Historically this has been a halogen lamp inside a Teflon coated fuser roller, or with most HP and possibly most all printers in 2022, a polyimide belt running over a ceramic slab heater. This impact this has on registration is that the first pass drives moisture out of the sheet. So when it goes in the second time, it is ever so slightly not the same size it was the first time. Depending on the makeup of the backing paper, I would venture that the influence of this issue would vary from one makers paper to the next.
It would be interesting to see what would happen if you had a third layer that had either nothing on it or some junk graphics in unused zones of the paper. Print that first to run the paper through the system (and fuser). Then print the white, followed by the color. It might be possible to stabilize the paper size with the first "dummy" pass and improve on registration in the subsequent passes
Yay! Thanks again for the extra question answering prior to this video. I'm hoping to do my first print today for my TBM buid. I'll be giving your video a shout out and link for sure. Thank you for doing this. I'm so stoked to finally have this option available.
Having also printed my own decals, be it prior 2009, I only had the cheapest walmart inkjet and white and clear decal papers.
This setup is SUPER SLICK!
Awesome job
It still isn't cheap, but it is the best solution I have found for the $$
@@pauly7218 I looked up the cost of the Ghost cartridge cheap was $240 & expensive was $440 but only looked on Amazon.
I always made 2 to 3 sets when I would print mine for the same reason you noted, the cost of printer paper was super cheap and 1 out of 3 for an item 2mm x 2mm is not much material in decal paper nor ink...
I totally loved your video. I got into Ghost White Toner for T-shirts and I figured out the same solutions you did. I print full color and white designs and I have done just the color and the white layer to be able to print on shirts. It's just cool to see someone else doing the same. Great content and keep it up.
is there any chance I could ask you some questions?
Thanks for reviewing this. I've thought about this for awhile, but it was nice to see someone actually review it. I was a little worried about the registration issues for really small text, but I think if I can just print a solid white layer on a clear film, transfer that, and then paint over that layer with a thin transparent oil paint that has a long working time. I could probably end up getting a nice result over a model with previous textures underneath without altering the underlying layers by just very carefully cleaning up around the edges. Oil paints, small brushes, good lighting, and magnifying goggles are great for that.
Thanks for the video Paul! I’ve been really curious how the ghost white toner process worked and if there were registration issues. The HP looks really tempting. A very helpful and informative video!
Jim - I have some ideas for improving registration and will be doing some experiments. Registration aside, for the hobbies we do, I think it is a good investment and open the door to a ton of creativity...
I have printed decals using an old B&W laser printer before and the white vs. clear paper for Slot Car bodies then clear coated them with enamel (1\64 scale) and they have turned out "OK" but THIS!! I am with you...the pluses outweigh the minuses...and NO CLEAR COATING! My old trusty 17 year old HP laser printer recently died (toner no longer available for it) and I have been in the market for an upgrade...I will definitely be checking this option out, especially since the printer can be used for everyday work printing also. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Just this week, I needed two simple decals and in 20 minutes - art design included - Decals were on my build!
Thanks for the video. I had wondered about the registration issues, and I appreciate the tips on the trapping and dual decal approaches. I have an older 4 cartridge HP Laserjet and I will try to convert a refill cartridge to white toner.
Glad it was helpful!
Been kicking the idea around for an alps to print decals for my drag slot cars. Ordering the 254 and toners now, thank god my wife is amazing with photoshop. I'll update soon, thanks Paul, great review.
I'm in Spain and have been mulling over one of the Alps but it's just too much in terms of cost and cartridge availability etc. I took a good look and it seems that Microscale 'TrimFilm' paper say for warhammer miniatures is the best paper to use with the Alps.
God am I so glad I found this video. I've been hoarding money away because I thought I had to spend thousands to get the decals I want. I can totally work with some trapping and registration issues for that much of a savings.
I've decided to get my decals printed at our local print shop. They have all the costs & I get a few sheets of decals for a few quid.
Thanks for sharing the info on printing decals with white on transparent paper
No problem!
I use the ghost white toner for my de alas over 2 years and it works great 👍🏻 just need to be careful when you print the color over the white but over all is awesome 👍🏻
May I ask why? What could happen? TIA
I trust by now you're no longer an amateur but still very helpfull :)
This was amazing! Can you print on clear vinyl instead of waterslide paper? Love clear vinyl for my glitter yeti cups!
Paul what are your settings with this printer when you use the waterslide decal paper? I read somewhere ideally the time of the paper running thru the printer should be minimal- your experience and thoughts?
😁 awesome video. I too build scale fire apparatus and decals have been one of the biggest issues.
Thanks Paul.
Great information and video! Thank you for sharing! 😎👍🏻
Thanks for watching! I hope this helps folks out. I also have some ideas for trying to improve the registration!
Paul Youdelis Awesome!
Hi Paul. Hello from a wet and windy Scotland. I'm looking to print just white on a clear vinyl for some detailed windscreen stickers (no colour). Is the white solid and stable enough to do this? Given your concerns over registration I would prefer to avoid doing a second pass. Maybe you have an example of just white you could share. Keep up the great videos sir 👍 Bryan.
crazy me i never used the sublimation toners i bought from Great Printer expensively nuts. so here's my question: can i use waterslide decal paper to print dtf use a dtf powder to set the ink and use on a black cotton shirt or any kind of medium? like mugs etc.???
Your suggestion about printing the colours & black onto clear decal stock, then the white component/underlay on a second clear sheet using the Ghost toner would certainly seem the best solution to avoid alignment issues. Indeed, several commercial decal manufacturers have taken this approach, and often with separate decals for single coloured elements (e.g. the red spot in the middle of an RAF or pre-1941 US national insignia). I'd hate to think how much money I've wasted on commercial decals that are almost totally unusable due to registration errors. Definitely a great advance on the old ALPS system!
I have found it easy to print them that way and layering decals really isn't that big of a deal....
Great video.. I've got behind on my watching everybody's videos. U looking good. U and the family stay safe.
Welcome back. Now, we should discuss your priorities and how you need to make Fat Guy videos the number 1 priority in your life! LOL....
amazing review
Not that I'm on the market for a printer and all of that, but if I ever should be I'm going to refer to this video. Thank you my friend.
@Ace Cayson why don't you and your friend Elian here stop spamming YT comments with that stupid shit
I just bought this whole setup to do this, and my first few attempts I'm getting like 1/8" + difference in my 2nd pass. I cannot seem to line the paper up on the 2nd pass. How do you do this within 4 pixels like you mention in this video?
Ok. Where do I begin? It is super tough to get perfect registration, ESPECIALLY at the smaller scales - everything is magnified. I place my paper in the same way every time. I butt it up to the back and left of the tray. it only makes a small bit fo differance. I also make extra copies on different part of the paper, and finally, for the smallest details. I print the white and color separate and then layer the decals - it really isn't that much extra effort and works the best. This also affords you the ability to double up on the white for a bright with an a dark abckground. the Alps will register, but it is more expensive and not as versatile. In the end, I still love it despite this minor short coming - I say minor because it can be worked around.... I hope this helps
Hello Paul
i have a hp m254nw printer.
the ghost toner works well on this machine.
How high is the resolution? I’m looking to use waterslide decals for Lego minifigures, and since they’re so small, I need the resolution to be very sharp in small dimensions.
How long the whost white toner last? It is very expensive. How much do I must charge per sheet to cover all that invertion: printer, toners, paper, electricity, heat press, my job?
Cool insight Paul!
Thank you kind Sir...
Very nice. I've been debating for years to buy one but I can't justify the purchase unless I start selling the decals and I don't want to get into selling. AI works very similar to Coreldraw which is what I use. Have you tried the contour option. You can make an underneath layer bigger or smaller a lot easier on a new page. You will be working with inches instead of pixel. For me it's a lot easier. You will also be able to print directly from AI one page at the time. Great video
Maybe consider it next time you need to buy a printer for your home?
Thank you for your detailed review!
Your toner has been a blessing for my hobby world. Now - take on the registration issues we suffer with during two pass printing and life will be perfect!
@@pauly7218 We are happy to read that!
Unfortunately, this is a problem with laser printers which is not so easy to solve.
The easiest method is to make the white underprint 2-3 pixels smaller than the color file, but we also know that such a thing is often difficult to implement in model making.
Great, in-depth video Paul - worth waiting for.😁 Have you seen Marty's latest video? He makes decals for a handful of aircraft and uses a fancy cutter to trim round them. Even RAF roundels turned out fine, with no film surrounding them.👌
I had never seen this done, not even by large manufacturers, and it seemed to me that these were possibly the ultimate transfers, home-made or otherwise.
I know you love your techgadgetry; might be worth a look.
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
I saw the video by Marty and you’re right on his decals. They are really on point!
He is essentially using an older Circut. These can do a contour print and cut. They have limitations as well, but, can also do a lot of fun things. I still would stand by my recommendation, as things like small white text and such just won't work with that for t of set up, but if you have one and are creative, it can be a hell of a tool!
@@pauly7218 It's amazing just how much can be "home-made" nowadays. Like everything else, the cost will limit what one guy can achieve but, as time passes and technology advances, the costs will come down a bit.
Very nice info...Can you please tell me, How much will be the cost per print out with multi colours in a full A4 page for T-shirt transfer?
Excellent video, it saved my wallet haha
I was about to buy an ALPS, luckily I found the white toner and with this video I now know how to use it! The only thing I did not find available is the printer, apparently it is discontinued or not available for purchase on Amazon.
There are still printers out there and I'm sure Ghost works with other models - check out there web site for compatibility
Do you use the ghost color ink?
Are the finished Decals also scratch-resistant?
Where do you get your blue back decal paper having a hard time finding it
Thats a bad ass shirt!!!!! Great video too!!
For the decal paper did you use standard thickness as SS offers different options?🤔
Jman
cool got the same one
hello nice video! wich are those 3k printers? i would like to know all options! thanks
Hey Paul, great information! If you were to win the lottery....what's your ultimate printer? You also mentioned a $3-4k option, but never said what it was.
I there a single pass method for printing White + CMY by setting the HP Laser printer to combine CMY to emulate Back yet keep the White toner cartridge loaded into the HP?
Sorry, but no. Still - I have a bunch of new videos coming very soon about a new system! Stay tuned!
Do you have any knowledge if their newer printers (452dw, 454dw) have the same capability to print on laser decal paper? It seems the 254dw is out of production.
Check out the Ghost web site, as they will list the compatibility. I still think you can get this printer though....
Great video! Really a lot to consider when trying to get that almost perfect decal. Do you have to have that ghostink or is there any cheap alternatives ?
YES! The Ghost toner is vital here and while a shock to the wallet up front, it goes a hell of a long way! You could make enough selling decals to easily pay for the next cartridge. Without it, it is just bad decals coming form a laser printer!
Is the Subbyscopa decal paper film as thin as Microscale, or thick like the Testor's decal film? For model trains, I need thin, flexible decal film that will lay over details (after applying with Microsol and/or Microset). Thanks!
They actually make differant kinds, but so far, I have never felt it has been too thick, and I routinely decal 1/64...
Paul thanks for the video.. question if money wasn't an option and you spoke of other printers with better registration capabilities which printer would it be? it seems one would need a printer that keeps registration for both printing passes... thoughts?
I read Oki is good, but they are in the $5000-$7000 range I believe. Too much for me to look further into 😂
From where to buy white cartridge
Hi Paul. I'm new to your channel. I'm in the market for a new HP printer. Is there a major difference between the HP 254, Hp 454DW, and the Hp 454DN? Thanks.
The HP254 is discontinued :( any alternative?
How come white toner is opaque but when I make a decal say with yellow toner out of the laser printer, it becomes transparent on a dark background? Please answer.
All color toner is assumed to be printed on white paper and is translucent. The White is specifically made to be opaque as it is assumed to be printed on anything but white!
Hi, I've been eyeing up the Ghost White toner cartridge for my HP Laser Jet 200 MFP printer in order to print decals for my Warhammer miniatures. What is the advantage of using the Ghost White toner cartridge method instead of just printing on a white laser decal paper ?
The Alps printer solution with decal paper from say microscale as good as it is, it just too expensive.
Massive difference as printing on a white sheet means super detailed cutting around the artwork. Trust me, this is way better!
Hello: fantastic video. It’s a complex subject but you explained it well. I was wondering if the white layer was printed the entire sheet, would that eliminate registration errors? I know that would use a lot of toner just wondering. Thanks!
Totally wouldn't work as it defeats the purpose of printing white at all. You would need to cut every decal clean at the border.
Paul Youdelis thanks for your reply. It’s obvious I have much to learn.
Right now trying to figure out how to scale vector logos before considering this printing investment.
@@CoopyDiaz If it is a vector, any app that can handle them will have a simple tool to scale stuff, either by dragging or inputing a scale percent. Super easy...
How do ibget a white border around my letters
can the ghost white print metallic colours like gold or silver ?
I don't think they sell metallic yet, but he have other toners....
There are quite a few options for compatible printers from both HP and Canon according to Micro Mark. I wonder which one would be less likely to result in the misalignment issue. Has anyone provided such feedback?
As long as it is 2 pass I'm thinking it will still be an issue. Keep watching as I show you my new set up!
Gawd I remember alps.over 15 years ago when it was hard to get tape. U still using it up ti this video is amazing lol
Hi Paul. Thanks for a very interesting video. Can I ask you - how will the system works if you want to make white letters on clear water slide decal paper. Will the bagground color have influence on the letters - or will the letter be solid enough. Or can you run the letters twice to get a thicker layer of white toner to avoid bagground color to shine through. Best regards John
The PAPER is colored, but the film is not, so you just print the white and you get great white decals. On a side note, you put the white in the place of the black toner, and tell the printer to print in black only. If you don't it kills the white. Just knowing the right settings. As to how white they are - pretty damn good if you ask me....
@@pauly7218 Hi Paul. Thanks for your kind and detailed answer. I am thinking on getting in to this new way to make my own decals. For a couple of years I have made a lot on the normal white or clear paper - but without white lettering. As many others model guys I have been forced to pay for white decals/letters. I just neded to hear from one who actually can prove that this new white toner really works. Keep up the good work. Thanks John

@@pauly7218 Hi Paul. Now I have bought a Canon 621. I have made some test prints, and wowo - it can print very detailed. Much better than my Lexmark. This morning my white toner arrived so now I am testing the best I can. One thing seem to be a major issue. First run with white - OK no problem. Second run with black and image in collors - i have problems with white backside matching colored front. I have made some mecanical ajustments to make sure that the decal paper lies stable in the tray. Have you experienced this problem. Best regards John
i use hp M154a, with "GHOST" white toner for a lot decal fishing rod (solid black color blank)... some editing for my HP M154a "TRAY", with "magnet" & "MICA BOARD" in of the tray...and the result of the second layer of white and other colors, is very nearly perfect... (sorry because my english is bad...hehe)
If you could email me some pictures and the best write up you can, I would love to share the info with everyone else in a video. Captainpaul@cox.net
Any suggestions on more affordable inkjet options?
Inkjets work fine for decals but only on white/light color items - that can't do white. Also, the ink can run so you have to coat them. Sorry, this is the best set up I have tried thus far... Look on the Ghost White web site for info on compatible laser printers....
One tip, Ghost toners are available for a lot of different printers these days, so you don’t need to buy that specific printer.
hey paul , i got HP Pro m277DW, ghost toner. It prints white perfectly, but when i reprint with colour. it doesnt lined up very well like a bit of huge gap. what settings i need to adjust in printer or anything u can help me out? THANKS man
As noted, registration is a down fall of the set up but there is hope. First, the small decals are probably always gonna be a problem. Small size and small amount of alignment issue spells trouble. I clip the edge of my white layer by 1/2 points and that usually isn't enough either. I also make sure the paper on both passes is flat and tight to the rear left edge of the paper tray. Finally I have taken to making multi versions of my decals. Several sets with both layers, a few sets with no white layer at all and then a plain white layer. I have found layering my decals is the best option and really not that much extra effort. Someone said they did a hack to the paper tray to improve registration but I can't find info for that and nave never given it much extra thought. While not the best solution, this is still IMHO the best decal printing option around. I hope this info helps
@@pauly7218 Mate thanks for ur reply i have emailed you for a better communication. Cheers
Paul, I just want to make White letter decals for my model railroad. Is the HP254 suitable for that?
With the ghost toner it is perfect for it!
Hi... how are you? I bought an HP 150nw printer... which accepts Ghoust white toner... Perfect... however, I cannot guarantee when the second print, the color one, that it is exactly where the white background is... as I saw in the your video... always makes a millimetric difference. Is there any way that can guarantee this overlap?
No. No guarantees. Try this.... Use the tray and put the decal sheet in exactly the same way each time. I pull mine tight to the left rear corner. Be sure to "trap" the white, meaning, the white underlay is slightly smaller than the color overprint. As an alternative, print the white underlay and the cover overlay separately and layer the decals. That's what I started doing and it worked fine. Short of spending a lot of money, this is as good as it gets....
@@pauly7218 Good morning... thank you very much for your prompt response... So, I really can't guarantee the position of the sheet... I've tried everything. Now, I had already thought about superimposing the decal, but hadn't tried... I work with the 1/87 (HO) scale... It's not easy at all! Thank you very much... I'm in Italy! Greetings! 😁
Sir, Can I use white toner cartridge in hp laserjet pro M154nw for t-shirt printing?
If yes how to setup?
Thanks
The cartridges are made for certain printers. They are filled with white toner, but made to trick the printers into thinking it is the black cartridge. Your printer isn't on their list, so no. Here is there web site for additional info.... www.ghost-white-toner.com
Thank you so much
Hi Paul I appreciate your video very much seeing I am in the market for a printer. What made you choose this laser model opposed to many other brands and models that can also use the white toner cartridge?
It was one of the most popular and affordable. I would imagine many of the others that Ghost toner supports would work just fine.... Still, I'm very satisfied with this one....
@@pauly7218 Thank you for your quick response
@@pauly7218 Hi Paul have you seen or are you considering when the time comes to replace your color toner with the ghost color toners? I am thinking that could solve the registration issues.
I didn't even know about the ghost colors until I started looking at the options.
Hi
I would like to ask if the program you use to draw the Decals are for free
Or not
And if you know any free program to draw decals?
I am looking forward hearing from you
Hi Paul: your video is very important . I have Color Laser jet Pro M452dn Can I use Ghost white toner ink on this printer? Thank you for your time in answering my question.
They make cartridges for many printers but to know which check out there web site and hope yours is on the list! www.ghost-white-toner.com
great video, you speak of that 3 or 4 thousand dollar printer, guessing you mean a 1 pass white toner setup. Well it's just not a 4k dollar printer, you also are on the hook for 1381 dollars to replace the cmyk +w toner cartridges. My canon 623cdw has super cheap toner except for the white of course, but there is no way I will spend 1381 dollars for toner. When someone cracks the chip code and makes toner at a respectable price I may consider it. Thanks for the vid and tips.
I too can't wait for the tech to figure out we need it!
Hi Paul, I just saw you video and happen to have a Laser Jet Pro M452dn on my desk. My question is, can you just buy the Ghost white toner and use the OEM CMYK for printing? Doing so will save about $400 and make the transition much easier. Thanks in advance!
If your printer is one Ghost supports (www.ghost-white-toner.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA1eKBBhBZEiwAX3gqlwmxTC3GMzoH5UQVCVQ2iJT8EAXJWNMh-mjG7VWNJtB4vvkeDTcN-hoC_T0QAvD_BwE) all you need is the white toner cartridge. Boom - Done!

It will depend on the app you are printing out of. I use both Illustrator and Photoshop. When I choose print the print window has an area for choosing the paper type, where I can choose "Transparency"
@@pauly7218 I’m using infinity designer but my Mac don’t show a transparency setting when I go to print. I’m using the canon version of the HP all I get is a label paper option

What services are you aware of that will print decals with white underprint and send them my own digital files?
I'm super sorry but I don't really know a service these days. Indycals (found on eBay)used to do some custom work but not sure about these days....
The main problem of the White Ghost Toner is the opacity of the toner... If you want really WHITE decals on a black background, you have to stack up at least 3-4 white decals... that makes the decals also really thick... but I didn't found a more economic method til now...
It is a bit too thin. Be sure to watch my newest decal video!!!
Paul, I see that the Ghost Cartridge is more than the other 4 cartridges combined. That makes it pretty expensive to play around with doesn't it? I'm sure you don't have an answer for why the white is so expensive, but I just have to wonder. Nice job though. I'll be anxious to see some decals made from your new printer. Thanks
I is a hefty price, but in comparison to say Alps cartridges, or outsourcing it isn't so bad on a per decal price basis...
Hey man thanks for the buying the tonka trucks off me! Hurry up and make the video already! Lol 😋 thanks again 🤝
I have a bunch of requests for some Tonka restos, so it should be coming soon. Thanks for the nice pair!
Paul Youdelis yeah man can’t wait!
Can this printer be used for printing on ceramic mugs or hard surfaces?
YES!!!! Of course you can use water slide decals, BUT, the Ghost toner people also make sublimation toner, which is the perfect, permanent, and washable way to logo things like mugs - Anything in fact that can be sublimated - you would need a mug press, but they are a dime a dozen... I'll probably do that myself when money allows....
@@pauly7218 Thank you very much for your timely response. Very informative. Therefore I assume printing the image using the sublimation cartridges would last longer than the other cartridges?
Why did you have to print with white toner first?
Toner despite all appearances is not fully opaque. This means decals on a colored background will cause the decals to change. The white base layer prevents this... Thanks for the great question!
Whats a good app for preparing art for waterslides
I use both Illustrator and Photoshop, depending on the effect I'm shooting for. Illustrator is my go to.
@15:40 did you ever make a video on this? I'm am looking for the transfer paper you are talking about in order to laminate waterslide decal paper with the use of this transfer paper?
Thanks in advance.
I use Sunnyscopa decal paper, and am not really sure what you mean here. If you clarify, I promise to try and give you a good answer....
@@pauly7218 sunnyscopa sells a paper for metallic waterslide decal. They have a video on youtube. They use a blue paper for transferring toner ink. I was just wondering if you know the name of the paper they use there? Thanks again
To avoid registration issues, is it not possible, with Photoshop or illustrator, to change all white surfaces to black and trick the printer into using the white toner as the black and make the decal in one pass? Obviously, black and white decals are out of the question, but if this works, it could save a lot of hassle.
That won’t work. The white needs to be under the other colors for opacity and the printer needs the black to make all the appropriate colors
Could you text something for me please. If you make the "black" just a slight don't off of black them your printer should mix CMY to get that color. You in theory them have black and white at the same time.
I don't want to seal every decal again.
Is there a toner or cartridge for the printer with some glossy finish to seal the logos?
Short answer is no, but these are sturdy and don't need to be sealed. Of course once applied, not coating over them can leave them exposed to potential damage.
@@pauly7218 thank you.
The problem is When the water transfer decals are put in the water the water gets colored. It needs to be sealed
@@0108daniel That shouldn't happen here as laser toner is like a plastic. I've never had it happen. Ink jets will bleed, but not a laser.
@@pauly7218 Ah yes, but I mean I must spray with with a glossy finish to seal the decals with a glossy look. Is there a option so I have not to cut the decals around the edges of the logo? The 'original' decals are only sealed on the logo itself and don't need to cut specially around the edges.
@@pauly7218 bought the same printer.
But When i print on laser decal paper the logo's are blurry. What settings did you use?
Can you tell me how to make white layer in photoshop?
briefly, make a new layer. Copy all the art from the first layer and paste in place on the new layer, Fill everything with black. This honestly would need a full video on the technique for Photoshop. I'll see what I can do....
How are these I’m thinking bout get that or oki 332
Isn't the Oki super expensive?
Not the 332 it’s $300
@@pauly7218 how do the ghost hold up in wash
@@pauly7218 another question if I buy the go m254 it comes with regular toners if I want do white toner I just need to buy the white toner I don’t need the other ghost toners
Can you name an expensive printer that can print all colors, including white on a single pass?
No such animal. You can go with an Alps, but they are expensive, not made anymore and difficult to work with. This is your best option honestly, and you just need to figure out a workaround for registration that works for you... I still love this set up...
Hi, I looked for this video because I want to learn how to print names in white and apply to my models, but I didn't understand why you print in white then you cover it with black, isn't it better to avoid white and print in black directly without printed in white? You just cover the white , 🤔please explain to me . I just want to print in white . But is kind of confusing.
Thanks
I don't generally print white over black. If I am printing a full underlay, and the color layer has some black in it, so be it. If you just want white, then just print white!
would be helpful if you could actually see where your clicking on the screen aswell as talking about it
I had the worst experience with Ghost White .. I have 2 high end HP office laser printers .. $1000 price range .. and every time you turn on the printer it knows you're not using HP toner. You have to take the cartridge out, reset the printer, reinsert the cartridge and start printing. It got to the point where it did not recognize the cartridge period. Total waste of money.
This is a result of the printer manufacturer implanting software and codes to prevent third party toner use. You might find a sticker with a code on an old black toner you can put on the white, and that will possibly work, or you can try to downgrade the printers software. Sorry...
Sadly, this printer has been discontinued.
Ghost toner lists the other lasers they make cartridges for, so just check that out OR, look for a refurb on bay
$300 for the toner... they can eat a lead letter from Gutenberg himself
I would never try to change your mind, but would just point out what it comes to per-print and the value of those prints. Still, to each his own....
