Kate always had the coolest actors appear in her songs. Miranda Richardson is great in loads of movies from the 80's onward. Dance with A Stranger, Enchanted April, Crying Game, Merlin, Sleepy Hollow, Blackadder, Good Omens, Mapp & Lucia....Etc.
From Kate's short film "The Line, The Cross and The Curve" which contains a number of songs from the album. The man in the video is Lindsay Kemp, who was Kate's first dance and mime teacher in the mid '70s.
As others have said, this video is from Kate's 1993 musical short film The Line, the Cross and the Curve. It's based on a classic Michael Powell film called The Red Shoes, which itself was a modern retelling of a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale about a girl who puts on a pair of cursed red shoes and proceeds to dance herself to death. The mysterious witchy woman is played by Miranda Richardson... most younger viewers will probably know her best as Rita Skeeter from the Harry Potter film series, but she's been in loads of stuff over the years. Kate has since expressed quite serious disappointment in the film: "I shouldn’t have done it, I was so tired. I’m very pleased with four minutes of it, but I’m very disappointed with the rest. I let down people like Miranda Richardson who worked so hard on it. I had the opportunity to do something really interesting and blew it. Also I was viewed in quite a negative light at that point, more so than after The Dreaming where I was viewed as some kind of nutter. It dissipated my energy severely and threw me into a state of severe exhaustion." Personally though, speaking as a fan, I've always enjoyed it. You've already watched a pretty good chunk of it yourself, between your reactions to this video, "Moments of Pleasure," "Rubberband Girl," and "Eat the Music." :) Always love your Kate reactions. The shoes become cursed and dance the girl to exhaustion until she either dies or manages to cut off her own feet while the shoes continue to dance on with her severed feet inside them. Miranda Richardson plays the selfish granddaughter who tricks Kate’s character into taking on her burden by giving her the red shoes.
That's what I said it sounds like Irish music ,my daughter me her sister she used to live in the flat above my brother's and she told her that's just Kate she was always writing songs and poetry from a very young age, 😊💜
