How To Apply a Gait Belt
To fasten a gait belt:
1. Take the loose end of the gait belt up through the buckle toward the teeth of the buckle.
2. Bring the loose end of the gait belt over the top of the teeth of the gait belt.
3. Bring the loose end of the gait belt through the other side of the buckle.
4. Cinch belt around patient.
To apply the gait belt on a patient:
1. Have the patient lean forward. (Be careful not to place the gait belt on any surgical sites or wounds on the patient's abdomen.
2. Follow instructions listed above for how to fasten a gait belt.
3. Have patient stand up and take up slack in the gait belt that will occur when patient stands.
