  • Since this is the first time I've posted something music related on this channel, I actually do music albeit rarely since I tend to be not that particularly good at it. Despite that however, I can sometimes manage to put out something interesting from time to time.
    I do music with Adlib Tracker II on a old DOS PC with an SoundBlaster Pro compatible card (an ESS AudioDrive to be specific since it is the only card I have that has the most accurate OPL3 reproduction) since I'm a huge fan of music produced on an Adlib sound card (or an OPL3 to be exact) and that making instruments on it are pretty fun and straight forward. As for sample based trackers or music production applications such as OpenMPT and FL Studio, you will need to search across the internet for instruments, some of which are not free.
    You'll find more details about this tune in my SoundCloud upload of this (link down below). As for the picture displayed on a vintage laptop right next to my vintage DOS PC, it was drawn by Lumdrop on DeviantArt (lumdrop.deviantart.com/) and it pretty much acts as the cover image like what you'd see in music albums that describes the music it had in it. In case your wondering, this is a fan-tune I made for his Chlorofields web-series.

    A very pretty sounding track... And the name of this musical composition is going to here like never better ! I'm agree with this fully. P.S.: Hoping so much, you're been continuing your own musical experiences at our days too...(!?..). BfK. 🎶🎼💻🎼🎶

    Music like this is what makes hunting down the perfect soundcard w/ a Real OPL-3 w/o the DMA clicking bug, Hanging note issue or high idle noise issue so damn worth it.

      This music was all done on OPL3 (ESS Audiodrive) and no PCM samples whatsoever. And yeah, having a sound card with a real OPL3 and is free from the clicking bug is certainly sweet. Haven't checked if my SoundBlaster Vibra 16 cards some of which have real OPL3 suffers from the clicking bug.

    this is why the pc version of the works should be made first then perform the process pressing releases.

      Sorry to disappoint but I don't compose for OPL3 anymore. I'm working with a Casio CZ-5000 nowadays which I find to be much more satisfying to use personally. I plan to remake this theme using that at some point though.

    I'm playing this video and this song on adlib tracker on my pentium 133 at the same time and it sounds like surround sound, with the headphones on my main pc and some speakers on my pentium 133 pc

    Hello Lameguy64, this tune of yours is awesome! Can I use it to demonstrate the opl3 abilities of a soundcard on my channel? Cheers, Ernie from PC-SOUND-LEGACY

    I have a soundblaster 16 ct2830 on my packard bell pc. It has a actual Yamaha YMF262-M opl3 chip on it.

    love the old CTX monitor, I have one from january of '91 with this fantastic dark grey front bezel, but its gone dark with age, have you had to open your monitor to brighten it up? Apparently it might help if I adjust some of the pots on the flyback transformer but I haven't gotten around to doing that.

    • @lameguy64
      @lameguy64  Před 8 lety

      +The Computent Actually, the brightness of my CTX monitor is still adequate for me so I don't need to adjust the flyback pots, the camera and lighting is what's making it look pretty dark.
      And yeah, my CTX monitor is currently one of the oldest SVGA monitors I have complete with video adjustment knobs underneath the front panel and it goes really well with my 386 PC shown in this video. It has a few hiccups however like having to power the monitor on and off a couple of times to get it to display but overall, its in pretty good condition and I got it for really cheap from a local scrap collector a long time ago.

    whats the specs of the 2 beige AT style computers and the nec laptop to the right of it? sadly my old computers are not beige, they are in black cases. and i got lcd, not crt. crt is much better for old PC :( my parents hate CRT monitors

    • @lameguy64
      @lameguy64  Před 6 lety +1

      One below the monitor is a 386DX-40 with Cirrus Logic SVGA w/ 1MB and a Crystal CS4235 sound card but has been upgraded with a Paradise/Western Digital SVGA w/ 1MB card and SoundBlaster Vibra 16 with genuine OPL3, the one on the right of it is a Pentium 166 with 96MB of EDO RAM (now upgraded to a Pentium MMX 200 but memory downgraded to 48MB as the 64MB memory kit was moved to a Pentium Pro machine) and the NEC laptop is a PC-9821Lt with a 486DX-40 with 8MB of RAM but now suffers from bad caps and a faulty keyboard (probably also due to bad caps).

      @pentiummmx2294 Před 6 lety

      cool, a japanese NEC PC9821 laptop, but sadly has bad caps.

    adlib uses opl2 (ym3812) not opl3 (ym3812-f)opl3 uses some new generation sound blaster in 90's

    • @lameguy64
      @lameguy64  Před 7 lety

      Well, the Adlib Gold did utilize an OPL3 chip. Despite the technical inaccuracy, Adlib is often used to refer to OPL2/OPL3 FM synthesis in DOS retrocomputing terms due to the similarities in sound quality.

    ps1 to opl3 interface when

    • @lameguy64
      @lameguy64  Před 7 lety +1

      Through the PIO port, possible. But I'm not really interested on trying to experiment on that, especially when I have no access to the facilities needed to make a OPL3 to PS1 interface board and no supplier for compatible YMF chips without cannibalizing valuable sound cards like a savage.
