The first to talk about when you have a tactic like Diniz’s is that there are no such things as set positions. Diniz is a big proponent of relationism. This is about creating fluid structures around the pitch through individual player movement not through an overarching team system. This can truly be seen in the way his team plays as they look to make the pitch very small playing in clusters by the sideline. Making the pitch look more like 6 futsal courts over an 11v11 pitch. This style of play perfectly blends into the Brazilian style and encapsulates the older more fantastic player from Brazil with the 10 for Fluminense Ganso being a particular highlight.
When it comes to actually playing Diniz’s team roughly sets up in a 4-2-3-1 but this shape drastically changes in the game. The only 3 players that have a strong positional identity are the 2 CBs and 6. The 2 CBs play much more of the basic role. Sitting deep and offering the ability to recycle possession and get the ball back into the cluster while being there to stop counterattacks. The other player is the 6 whose main goal is to play very laterally looking to be the main target in the buildup but also provide defensive cover to his teammates as they freely roam around the pitch.
The players in front of these 3 are made up of a hardworking midfielder who looks to help defend as the 2nd CM in a 4-4-2 shape but also push forward to play more like another 10 in line with the other one. Creating more attacking options. He is also aided by the runs of one of the wingbacks who will push heavily up the pitch as well adding more congestion to these clusters of players. On top of this, the opposite-sided winger will look to come over to the middle of the pitch as well creating 1 massive group of players by the sideline. The 9 will stay high looking to be on the last line of defenders trying to get in behind and be a box threat.
Finally, the main man the 10 and for Fluminense is Ganso. He makes the team tick as this player has complete positional freedom to move where he wants and to connect play in any way he can. He will drift wide or drop deep or even play higher up to always be open and available to create passing ladders or even play 1-2s. This role is crucial the tactic doesn’t properly work without it.
This tactic is a tricky one, but I highly recommend using it if you have a very good 10 who has incredible positional sense and is selfless looking to pass rather than score loves to play can connect with other teammates. Players like Ozil come to mind when I think of these roles. I also highly recommend using this if you want to play very fluid football as this is a perfect tactic to meet those ideas.

This is one of gripes with FM. Tactical flexibility is an illusion.

Yup couldn’t agree more. You are still forced into a very rigid style

Great effort and breakdown again. Can't win them all. Like you mentioned some parts of the game aren't flexible and fluid enough. Many Dinizerations

Yeah it's unfortunate when things don't work in game as intended, but again we do have to remember this is a game.

Yeah it doesn't work. I talk about that in the video. Its unfortunately something that is unable to be done in FM, because you have to heavily rely on positional play to create tactics.
