Nice Design... Here's a few Important Tips... I have a lot of homemade outdoor furniture (hardwood by the way) and rain and sunlight are forces to be reckoned with. I would suggest after you complete filling ALL cracks, holes, etc along with your staining, etc to seal them with a solid two part polyurethane floor sealer and do it again and again and again... especially with soft wood. Then after several coats of sealer than switch and put on your Topcoat and again several coats. Otherwise your nice furniture will warp, separate and rot. Ask me how I know... yes, even hardwood takes a beating outside, so never allow ANY cracks or crevices that would allow ANY water to gain access or you will be crying the blues before long. That said... again Nice Design. I would suggest a waterproof glue as well like Titebond Three and the use of some hardwood dowels at key stress points. Stainless steel screws and brad nails would also be a major plus... jus' sayin... if you're building it to last. One final note... old fashioned Bondo makes a good filler and is easy to stain. If you do it right... you won't even notice it has been used. Thumbs Up on your video... Very Good Documentation and camera work in your steps... Subscribed... and God Bless You.
Thanks Kevin, This is some great advice. I have never thought of using bondo as a wood filler. Thanks again for all the great suggestions and God Bless.
Done plenty of chairs and tables here in Texas and in one summer your work is literally toast...spring rain gives way to many days over 100 and you better build solid. Ask me how I know. And then the squirrels...
@@vince9486 Sounds like you have your challenges. Thanks for watching.
How do you get Poly to bond over an oil based product like stain? I tried it over Danish oil and it was a disaster. I may have done it too soon maybe, not giving the oil long enough to cure??
@@Book-Gnome I not sure what poly you are using. I used Minwax Helmsman exterior varnish. Here is a link:

I hope this helps. thanks for watching.
They look great Gene! Better than store bought, too! 👍😎
Thanks Dartman!
@@DIYGene yep!😊
I like the look without the cushions.... very nice!
Looks fantastic
Hi Tim,
I am really happy with it. Now I can’t wait for spring. Thanks for watching.
Hi Gene, great video! Love the music background!
Greetings from Sweden. Always a treat to watch your vids Gene. Keep doing what you do!
Thank you so much and thank you for the encouragement. And hello to beautiful Sweden.
Great build! I love the contrast of the dark stain and the cedar 👍
Thanks Patrick, I was really happy how those colors worked. Thanks again for watching.
Great job as usual Gene!
This was such a fun project. Thanks so much for watching.
Awesome style as always!

I really like the contrasting colors. Good video and choice of music.

Great job! I agree on he cedar and dark stain combination. The color made me see the whole video. Easy build, you made it enjoyable to watch as you work and explain with simple language 👌
Oh thank you so much. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. The cedar wood has such a beautiful tone. Please let me know if you have any ideas for other videos. Thanks again for watching.

I like them without the cushions also. Cool project Gene.
Thanks David, I really do like the look without the cushions. Thanks for watching!
Sorry about the Premiere. I did not mean to do that.
Good job Gene, I'm doing my yard now thanks for the great Idea!
I hope it helps! Thanks for watching.

Thanks Dan!
Thank you for your nice project .
Thank you for watching.
Great build Gene! I think adding the supports under the seat planks was a great idea!
I’m really glad I added the supports. 👍
Thanks for watching.
Great build, brother!
Excellent music too
Thank you so much. Fun project. Thanks for watching.
Very nice. I like your simple to build design.
Thanks Tim, it is so simple and easy to build. Thanks again for watching.
Excellent job brother.
Thanks for watching.
Looks awesome ❤
Thanks so much for watching.
Nice work!
Thanks for watching.
This exactly my kind of style cheap and luxurious
It was a really fun project. Thanks so much for watching.
Loved watching your video, 1st time watcher. The patio furniture turned out beautifully. Also, a person a little on the “plus” size would be able to be confident they won’t collapse, and would fit in them! They would be comfortable for a sit around the fire night. Thank you, yes detailed instructions please.
Thank you for watching and hope you will check out some of the other videos on the channel. Oh and I will see what I can do about instructions. Lol
Great job Gene! As always, simple projects where it shows you put your love of doing things into it! Best from Portugal! #parkside4life #lidl
Thank you! I love making something simple and useful. Are you enjoying spring in Portugal?
@@DIYGene Yes, indeed 25/30C, it's already starting to get hot, there aren't really 4 seasons anymore, I still have tons of wood I didn't get to burn ehehe and I'm guessing I will start using AC in a few weeks to be able to work from home ;) hope you get some cool projects for the next months!
I love them. Without the cushions.
Me too! That cedar has such nice wood tones. Thanks for watching.
Definitely without the cushions! Looks awesome!
I agree , without cushions. Thanks for watching.
Parabéns excelente trabalho um vídeo nota mil valeu
Great Project..... 🤩
Thanks for watching.
Good job!
Thanks for sharing!
New sub.
Thanks for watching and for subscribing!
They look great! 🍺
Thanks Phil, and thanks again for watching.
What a great look. The dark and light wood looks amazing. Another project well done.😎
Thanks NortheastKen! I really like the color combination too. I’m thinking about using cedar around the side of the deck and that same color combination. Thanks again for watching.
@@DIYGene Hey also I'm looking at your cushions. If you don't mind, were they from a local box store or an online thing.
I have been looking for cushions for my outdoor swing. My cushions are 20x20 seat area and 20x20 on the back all one piece. Everything I see online will set me over $100 for 3. even if they were longer on the back it could work. Its 60" across.
Looking at tossing the swing and making your bench, lol!
@@Northeastken I picked up the cushions from a store called Aldi. They were closing them out and I really only paid $5 each for them. In fact I bought the cushions before I built the furniture. LOL
I would look at stores like AtHome they seem to have a lot of selection. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help.
Thanks.
I appreciate your feedback on this. We have an Aldi up our way over here.Never even thought of looking. You never know when a deal like that will pop up. I done that before, bought something even tho I didn't need it, but I was such a good deal, ya couldn't leave it there. Lol Thanks again
Nice dude
Thanks so much for watching
Looks great! (Now you need a small table to match them...got to have something to put your drink and burger plate on...lol)
lol So true. Thanks for watching.
So true. LOL
I'm inclined to agree with you. Looks amazing and no cushions have my vote
It feels wrong to cover up the cedar. LOL! Thanks for watching.
@DIYGene lol....totally. thank you for a great video!
Do you know what is so sad? When you said how cheap you got everything for at Home Depot, I jumped to see if this video was 5 yrs old!😂 AWESOME!
Thanks for watching!
Same here. Lol But, the price savings still stands! Compare building to buying and the value is still there. But boy those prices sound sweet! Lol
Well, heck Gene, they look pretty great in the sun room too. How about building another set for the patio?
For a hundred bucks, not a bad idea. LOL
Subscribed. Love the 2 tone look. Would be great if you made plans available.
I think I need to work on that. I am getting a lot of requests. Thanks for watching.
How are these holding up today? Anything you would do differently? Awesome video!!
It’s holding up great. I will be bringing inside or covering it at the end of the season. I think that will help it last longer. The varnish is doing well but we are in the first summer. Thanks for watching.
I really like this, i just wish I could get 2X4s of that quality. Maybe I can rip 2X10s down to 2X3 so i would have something to work with.
Bellissimo bravo, è possibile avere le misure, grazie
Great video! Could you please post a cut sheet for this? I bought everything to make these then realized your cuts were only for the beginning of the video…
Hey Gene, new subscriber. I love the build and design. Like many, I i would pay for a cut list and build sheet if possible.
Thank you. I’m working on at least a cut sheet. I will let you know when I have one. Thanks for watching ind for subscribing.
Excellent work: do you a measurements and cut list.
I haven’t done that but maybe I need to.
Where can I get the plans for the patio furniture? Thank you in advance for your time.
I really like the design of these. Have you thought about using a deck sealer for your outdoor furniture? I'm wondering how it would work out. I made a chair out of pine and used a transparent cedar natural tone. It looks good, but my chair "looks" a bit thin. I was thinking this might be a good design
Actually I think deck stain is a perfect idea. Thanks so much for watching.
Great job. I will be making this set in the next few weeks. Do you have plans for sale?
Thank you. I have not made a set of plans yet, but t I’m getting a lot of requests. I guess I better start working on some. Thanks for watching.
Nice job Sir, I would have put a wider slat of wood on top of the armrests just for comfort.
Great suggestion. Thanks for watching
How do you attach the upolstry buttons to the metal strips? Did i miss it in the video? I also watched the cooler video. I love the look of the metal stips on the table and the cooler. And the buttons look great. But it looks like you push them into the strip.lol i am no where even close to that strong. Lol
I used a really small drill bit then pushed the tack into the wood. You can use a hammer to tap the tacks in too. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching the videos.
what would you sell them for?
For all your hard work, have a beer on me!
Thanks Bob for all your support! Cheers.
You should sell a step-by-step plan for this project.
I know I'd pay a few bucks for it.
You know I have been really thinking about doing that. Thanks for the inspiration.
@@DIYGeneFirst time viewer...definitely going to hit the Subscribe button. I would be interested in plans as well. You started out with the side measurements but never gave any more measurements. A cut list would be great so I can make a set for my wife. Keep up the great work.
How much was the cordless table saw, mitre saw, wood glue, clamps, cordless nailer, nails, square, puffy, cordless sander, sand paper, belt sander, rasp, saw horses, tape measure, speed square, pocket hole guide, cordless drill, screws, larger clamps, drill bits, stain, brush, plastic, furniture pads, Minwax sealer, urethane, and everything included with the cushions?
You know you are right. But you can do this project with a circular saw and a hammer. Don’t let it stop you from taking on a project. Thanks for watching.
Can I get the measurements?
Do you have plans to these builds?
🤗❤️👍
Thanks Robert.
Lol 80$, yous should be happy with your prices down there. Up here in Canada where I'm at, 1 1x6x6 cedar fence picket is 12$.
Wow, I paid 3.75 each.
Looks like they are heavy enough so the wind wont blow them around and yet light enough to move by hand.
Hi Bob, That is exactly what I had in mind. I have had those plastic Adirondack chairs that end up in the neighbors yard after a bad storm. Lol. Thanks for watching.
Don’t think you got the sides right way round
Hi John, I have seen some furniture with the sides the other way. But I chose this way because I like the look and feel it is a stronger design. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
Ok trying to figure out how your under a $100.00 for this build when the wood cost 80 and the clear was 25. Not to mention the glue, screws, and nails.
The lumber was actually about $15 less because I purchased more than enough. I should have mentioned that in the video. It really was under $100. Thanks for watching.
