What an incredible homage to Joni as an ultimate signoff. I've been in a daze ever since he left us, so grateful for his presence in our lives since 1965.
I am so happy for Sarah Jarosz, getting the opportunity to play with David Crosby, one of the original's from the 60's, which I am sure you know. I love Sarah Jarosz about as much as I do the 60's originators of GREAT MUSIC !! If for some reason you have not yet listened to her,,,, there is no time but the present. I am also so happy for David Crosby that he is still out there embellishing beautiful tunes for all to hear. I worked at Fair Oaks Rehabilitation hospital in Summit New Jersey in the 70's, and David Crosby stayed there to get clean.... which he did for about 3 months, then he headed back into the darkness that the drugs he was taking brings to you. Thank God he is clean now! I saw an interview with David and Howard Stern, great recent interview. I imagine you can here it here on CZcams.
That’s not Joni singing with him here. It’s Sarah Jorosz. She has about 4 albums out on her own which are great too. Of course Joni Mitchell is exquisite and iconic!
David’s voice just gets better and better, with each passing year....... and the passion and sincerity with which he sings is undiminished. And his spirit is as beautiful as his music. I wish I had met you, David. Thank you so much for keeping me company over all these muddled up years. Stay safe and well, and your family too, of course.
Also eher untypisch für David Crosby...
@David Crosby🎶 Thanks! "If I could only remember my name" is one of the ten LPs to be saved in case of planetary catastrophe. And obviously it's o.k. by me
This is the type of harmony singing that Crosby used to do with Nash. The rhythms are very specific and a bit idiosyncratic (listen to the way they sing "children let out"). It's HARD for two people to sing together that way -- hard to keep together on unexpected 16ths and 32nds that show up in the phrasing. Croz and Nash were really good at it, and now Croz and Sarah are really good at it. BRAVO. I hope we get to hear this live sometime.
Agree, I would think it would be very difficult to keep it tight with those quick starts and stops. I was wondering if maybe David did his vocals first. Either way, the final result is perfect.
Croz produced Joni's first album....this was one of the great tunes from "Ladies of the Canyon" what a beautiful cover! He still sings like an Angel...
She certainly is an old soul. The first time I saw was on Austin City Limits, in 2012, and she sang a Tom Waits song....Come on up to the house. I think she was 16 or 17.
Crosby and Joni Mitchell, icons of the 70s, gentle dreams and repressed anger in equal measure expressed in moving harmony. They truly dont make 'em like that anymore . RIP DC
I am listening to this album for the first time....so here is my unbiased review of this piece of work and more. I am listening to it on PSB towers, and Phillip's Electronics....the engineering is just exceptional....its like a MOFO recording from the master. Superbly accurate, it's like your sitting in the studio with them. There are so many different layers here, its just beautifully crafted. The musicianship is stellar. This album showcases one fact that cannot be denied, David Crosby has a gorgeous voice, and easy on the ears. This is a very sophisticated album with many different styles and grooves. Jazz, funk, pop, it's all here. If you close your eyes and listen to this masterpiece your get it factor will certainly click in....at 80 he just blew away his former contemporaries and this album is certainly a statement to his fans and past associations. I really respect him as he is brave enough to bark out loud then walk away and move on. While Covid has decimated the social spirit, this guy goes to work and produces a body of work like this? David Crosby doesn't look back, he moved on and this album is certainly award winning material. Just exceptional! Get this album, its the best musical contribution in so many years from the village out there. 10 out 10. What a gift.....thank you David, just superb.
Great review. I love this cover. It's the 3rd time David has covered this song by Joni. I love him introducing a new artist in this version. Good on him!
OMG. I wasn't hopeful when I heard about this. Joni is so hard to cover. But if anyone could, it's David. I am sitting here with tears in my eyes, I’ve a fan of Mr. Crosby from the beginning. Please listen to the incredible Croz (2014) and Sky Trails albums (2017) by David Crosby. They are as good as his early masterpiece Remember My Name from 1970, and that says a lot. I've probably listened to it a dozen times, and cried a dozen times. These collaborations don't always work, but this one is magical. What a great song, and a perfect vessel for this perfect duo.
I'll always applaud the survivor, especially those who've kept their inner child intact but, for me, The Byrds years are the only ones with meaning. They showcased the greatest high harmony voice I've ever heard give emotion to the lyrics of two of the greatest songwriters in the history of American music, Dylan and Gene Clark, as well as the lead vocal turns he took on those first five albums. For all of that, David Crosby is one of my rock and roll idols. I know I'll shed tears at his passing.

Wow.....we call this On Top of Your Game!
I slept last night in a good hotel
I went shopping today for jewels
The wind rushed a-round this dirty town
And the children let out from their schools
I was standing on a noisy corner
Waiting for the walking green
Across the street he stood
And he played real good
On his clar-i-net for free
-
Now me I play for fortunes
And these velvet curtain calls
I've got a black limousine
And the finest ladies
Escorting me to these halls
Now I'll play if you have some money
Or if you're a friend to me
But that one man band
By the quick lunch stand
He was just playing real good for free
Now nobody, nobody stopped to hear him
Though he played so sweet and so high
They knew he'd never
Been on their T.V. screen
So they passed his music by
I meant to go over and ask for a song
Maybe put on a harmony
I can still his refrain
As the signal changed
He was just playing real good for free
Joni added...
Playing like a fallen angel
Playing like a rising star
Playing for a hat full of nothing
To the honking of the cars
THIS. IS. FABULOUS.
