“Rodriguez for a Night” (2021) was co-authored by James Raymond - David Crosby’s son - (music) and Steely Dan frontman Donald Fagen (lyrics). Dixit Crosby : “Fagen just sent the words and stood back to see what would happen. He knew what our taste was and he knew what we would probably try to do. He’s an extremely intelligent guy and I think he knew what would happen. We know his playbook pretty well, so we deliberately went there - complex chords, complex melodies. WE STEELY DANNED HIM right into the middle of this as far as we could❕ And fortunately Donald liked it […].” ONE MUSICAL & LYRICAL DREAM TEAM‼️ 💙🎼💜
Rest easy David. His voice miraculously got better with age. I am 46 and grew up listening to him through my dad. Most talented of CSNY and will be missed.
From David A. Wood: Even though it is the desirably inimitable David Crosby singing the lead vocals, the song is definitely a Steely Dan-influencrd song. You can tell it is by the elegantly tasteful singing, the ironic lyrics and the subtle accompaniment of the horn section that Donald Fagen's sublime influence is all over the David Crosby song "Rodriguez For a Night." I quite like the song.
Jesus, if there were one guy whose voice should've failed him 30 years ago...but goddamn if he ain't still bringing A-game level shit to his recordings. Dave this is smooth, tough, and sexy all at once. Colour me more than impressed.
The date is January 20, 2023. Yesterday, we learned of the passing of this insanely talented man whom we all loved. I was unaware of the existence of this album that DC and DF, et al, had collaborated on!!! It's phenomenal and I intend to share it with others. Under the current circumstance, I find it comforting. RIP DAVID CROSBY
You nailed it, my scurvy brother: An entire album like this song, vocals tossed between Fagen and Crosby - his supple, airy SoCo pipes are a near-perfect conduit for the material; reminiscent of David Palmer in a way.
Two aging Icons and they can still write brilliant music.....Crosby and Fagen. One of the best new tunes out in years. Catchy melody and Dean Parks on guitar. Love it!

I think and hope that both of these songs become number one worldwide hits! With the world situation as it is now, we need fantastic sophisticated uplifting music like what you're doing right now. Gonna remember David like this - rollin' total gangsta style with Donald. Rest in peace, and I hope you like how peace feels.

It's immensely comforting at least for me.. He never ran out of ideas and musically was still intensely alive to the last.
I thought it was Donald Fagen until the voice came in. What a smooth sound. Love it.

Damn near 80. His voice is still crystal clear. Unbelievable. This song is so Steely Dan like.
Love this. That sure does not sound like an 80 year old man. Fagen’s touch is perfect.
This is the best Crosby song I’ve ever heard.
Isn't it something?!? Donald and David really musically melded!
Wow Donald Fagan and David what a fantastic combo, give us more.
SD forever... Crosby is out of this world.
A CSN Steely Dan mashup would sound something like this. Thumbs up emoji.
It's almost like a tribute to Steely Dan, but the voice is Crosby through and through. Amazing sound.
It's written by Donald Fagen of Steely Dan. Great track!
Crosby absolutely loved Steely Dan.
@@michaelrose5614 It's a great match.

This is gorgeous !,God bless David Crosby and Donald Fagen Crosbys voice and Fagens writing style blend together perfectly.
That is not the voice of a 79 year old. Lovin’ it with the Steely Dan vibe.

David the soul Miester
Now I have to admit this is a wonderful song but after about 40 years I listen to naked in the rain Crosby and Nash!
