      I know zubimendi well, rice is very obviously better. But if you judge them purely by on the ball ability I can see how you came to that conclusion but off the ball is just as important and there's no one in the world better at winning the ball in midfield.
      Notice people never made similar points about kante, they could understand being able to cover the space of 2 men and win the ball back and lay it off to another midfielder is important but when they're English they don't get credit for that.

      He was playing as a 6 whilst maino was the 8 , to play it forward to need players willing to be open and ready. England players stand still. Kane being the worst of the lot. Plus Bellingham might play as a 10 for real Madrid but hes not that good as others in that position. I'd play palmer, kane or foden as a 10 . Watkins as the 9. Southgate did what sven did by picking the names instead of building the team.

Rice was marking nobody, he stepped forward creating a huge void in the middle of pitch between the midfield and defenders. If he was in his correct position then Yamal simply wouldnt have been able to cut inside for easily. People need to realize how much of a stinker Rice had this tournament in the quarter, semi, and finals.

He’s a box crasher with not a lot to his game bar ball carrying and fodens now proven he can only play in a system where other people have to keep creating space for him, he doesn’t create space himself and his passing is limited like Bellinghams the fact Spain played with wingers means more then likely neither play especially if pedri is healthy who’s a far far better player then both.

      Goretzka had a brilliant game at arsenal's ground. Far better than any other midfielder of any team of the PL including every pool and city midfielder. Just to make that clear.

      @jeannotschumacher I wasn't taking aim at Leon goretska, I rate goretska, bayern were in terrible form at the time and really out of form yet arsenal at the time were top of the premier league and rice was supposed to be the beating heart of the arsenal midfield and goretska owned him in both legs.

    How exposed would England be without Rice? Try that question. Rice's stats were still pretty good, he did make mistakes but that was only because the team was so unbalanced.

    Rory has got it right, Gareth Southgate is a failure for not winning any trophy whatsoever. As a paying football fan, one can only hope that the coach prepares the team well enough against top opposition, which Southgate absolutely failed at by insisting on starting an unfit centerforward when he had fully fit options on the bench. What an awful manager to have, who distrust his own selection process. 😢

    It is a team game. The alchemy of team set up, partnerships is overlooked. Rice obviously needs a creator next to him. Without an Odergaard next to him he struggles.

    Brazil went on to win every game all the way to winning the 2002 World Cup, if you remember, and this current Spain side - despite being quite impressive during their successful triumoh at Euro 2024 - still have some way to go before they are revered in the same way as the likes of Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho and that amazing Brazilian team. Not quite there yet. 👍👍👍

    Nothing about Rice makes me think of a winner. People go on about Kane's trophy cabinet but look how little Rice wins in his career I didn't want him to come to ManUtd and I'm glad he didn't.

    Sooner we get Jennings off this show, the better. Any attempt to judge/criticize Rice's performance can only be done in conjunction with a knowledge/understanding of the (very poor) quality of the payers ahead of him. Countless times I saw Rice shake his head or shrug his shoulders because no one ahead of him was making any any effort, or seemed capable, of making the runs and finding the space we desperately needed them to. They were totally lacking in ideas. Rice may not be as good as Rodri, but Rodri wouldn't be that good either, playing in that England midfield. Who knows how good Rice would be playing behind those Spanish players.

    Spain are better individual footballers. Englands midfield options consisted of Rice who passes sideways or backwards, Mainoo an inexperienced kid, Wharton another inexperienced kid, Gallagher a bang-average midfielder. Englands midfield was so average that they had a RB playing in Midfield for 2 games. Spain by contrast, Olmo, Rodri, Ruiz, Pedri, Zuppamendi. Also Gavi was injured before the tournament. England has good number 10s but the other midfield positions are badly lacking.

    I don't think you say Declan had a bad tournament, he constantly did the dirty job in front of the defence throughout the tournament. You are glossing over the fact that Kane was a 7 game passenger, Foden was average to poor at best, walker was poor, Trippier was poor. A manager with tactical nous would have got the best out of those players. Let's see what you think of Rice come the end of this season. I [predict you will be saying that he is a class player who was one of many that were the victims of an average manager at the Euro's

    Let's just all be honest about Declan Rice - he's a very hard worker and a great team player, he played well for Arsenal last season and has no doubt improved, but he isn't cute enough on the ball and gets flustered when pressured in receiving the ball in his own half. He's not world class, unlike Kroos, Modric and Rodri.

    I mean picking out Rice? Really? Rice had a poor tournament no doubt, but still covered more distance than any player in the competition; more balls recovered than any other player, 3rd for most tackles in the tournament & 2nd for most interceptions, Rice was literally one of the best players in the league last season, it Arsenal would of won the league he would of got pfa player of the year, he is a superb box to box midfielder, England as a whole pass the ball too slow with no movement going forward, I think the players you should be talking about is Bellingham, Foden, Walker & Kane 😂

      I agree Rice did what he was told to do, and having Kane up front is a bad joke he slowed everything down. Rice and other players should have been rested in the first three games. Southgate is the biggest culprit to how the players performed.

      Just runs around and makes tackles being a 6 is more than that see Spain Germany Argentina look at their 6s dey barely make tackles but keep the ball well and keep it ticking so you don't have to make so many tackles

    Kane played in a ghost no.10 midfield role throughout the tournament, TAA, Watkins, Toney, Bowen & Gordon were our nitro-boosters on the bench but we don't use game-changers until the 89th minute!
