4:55 saying de la Fuente isn’t a tactician bc he has less experience is a bad take. Tactically speaking this tournament Spain have been excellent.
They don’t just have the talent in the right areas, but they’ve been able to make the most of those strong players and outplay other strong teams when it’s been necessary. You don’t win national tournaments without tactics.

Its really time people stopped expecting so much from England and give GS some damn props, the man has done a brilliant job with the shit he has had to work with (I mean the collective mentality of the team, not the individual players). England always demote the value of the collective. We should be better but we're not...Gareth deserves alot of respect for what he's done.

Other counties get managers who “don’t care about the future” but they get trophies, which is the whole point of preparing for the future, so just saying you’re building for the future is a loser mentality. Somehow England can have all the necessary components: great players, extremely lucky draws, big favorites underperforming, even home field advantage for the last euros; and yet, when they inevitably drop out, we get a laundry list of reasons and excuses. You cannot say that England has it any harder or any worse than any country that’s been able to win a major trophy in the last 15 years. On Rory's '2 finals in a row take' -
Jurgen Klopp came 2nd to Pep in the PL 3-4 times. In the overall history of the league, ppl will only see him as 'The only manager to stop Pep winning 6 in a row' and even then City have still defended the PL for 4 years
Jurgen Klopp played Real Madrid in 2 finals and got Liverpool to 3 European finals. In the first, goalkeeping errors were costly despite Klopp's management, the 2nd he won and the third we outplayed Real and lost because of one counter attack.
Klopp's transformed the way people in Liverpool believe in the team and made us a feared team in Europe but ultimately he won 1 PL and 1 UCL (ignoring the 115 charges that would give him a few more titles).
In context, yes Southgate has done better but the bar's on the floor, Didier Deschamp's also got the French to 2 consecutive WC finals but the French would still want him gone because his football's boring and uninspiring nowadays. England need a winner, even if it's a foreign manager. Sarah Wiegmann won England a trophy so there can't be this narrative that 'foreign managers will sabotage the team' or whatever.

Terrible take from Rory and Niv, and I usually like her inputs. De La Fuente has less experience, but he makes better managerial decisions, thats a fact. Southgate obviously has good man management skills since the players are happy to fight for him. But on the flip side, he stiffles his players abilities by putting them in bad positions, so it limits their individual quality. He doesnt set patterns of play that his team can fall back on either in offense or defense, but especially in transition. And on top of that, he's also a late reactive manager, as he's slow to see momentum switches and often makes the wrong changes at the wrong times. The problem isnt that he's too defensive (although thats also an issue based on the personel at his disposal and a better manager would be able to recognize the strenghts & weaknesses of his squad), its that he's a bad manager. England will be hard press to find a worst manager at this point...

The BEST way to unite the nation is to just win. That's it. Truth of the matter is, we have fallen short, again. We had the best squad (in terms of depth) in this tournament and it came down to tactical nouse being the main reason we lost. Goals came merely from individual player brilliance and manager tactical plans. This is evidenced by even Nieve suggesting we try to get a Klopp or Guardiola.

Being a neutral in this conversation, and ignoring the blatant hypocrisy being shown with regards Southgate, the simple take is that England were lucky to get to the final if it wasn't for individual brilliance. The difference between Spain and England was that Spain was set-up to suit the players, England wasn't and the manager is to blame. Example being Kane at club level he has someone running off him and banging in goals for fun and being involved, you play to your players strengths especially at international level. Southgate has made the right decision in stepping down (whether its has been from external pressure or feels he has taken them as far as he can), as much as i hate to admit it allows for someone new and better know how to make England ready for next WC.
