- Demonstration of how to fix Miata door handle that won’t work from the outside.
About This Video:
I demonstrate how to repair a Miata NA door handle that sticks and won’t open the door from the outside. Inside handle works but outside handle doesn’t. This is very common in older Miata NAs, and the process to repair it is very simple. Disassembly of door card or door panel to gain access to the door latch mechanism. Closeup views of latch assembly. Step-by-step instructions for fixing a stuck door handle.

About MiataTravels:
My cat and I are getting in my 1991 Miata in 2020, and we’re traveling to all 50 states. The biggest part of the audience for this trip, I think, will be Miata enthusiasts. So, until the trip begins, this channel and my social media will be geared toward a general interest in Miatas and the people who drive them. Once the trip is underway, we’ll switch to 100% coverage of the trip, the people we meet, and the things we do all across the country. Please share what I’m doing with your friends!

thanks so much!!!!
Thanks for this 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks - this looks like mine so now I know what to do.
Great video my wife was able to screw the bolts in as my arms to big to fit.
Jer Fodor Glad to hear this video helped!
This was not the problem on mine. In fact, loosening my screw made it better. The fix was that the spring behind that plate the screw goes in wasn't in the right place. I removed it, bent the ends so they were a little more grabby, and put it back in, hooking one end over the plate that moves and one end over the fixed point and now it's good as new. (note I did have my window removed at the time, which made this easier.
I have a different problem: The outside lash will not flush with the door. Even if you push it from the outside. I think this is because the previous owner (an elderly man) couldnt grap the handle easily anymore and ajusted it to stick out in close/default position. How do I retrun it to a default position being flush with the door again? Do I need to dismantle everything as well?
Thanks for this video. Do you have a video for when the door cannot be opened from the inside OR the outside? This is the problem I have.
This is great, but can you elaborate on the problem when both the inside AND outside latch don't operate OR, if you know, direct me to a video or information about that more complex problem. Thanks.
Thanks for the video. What wheels do you have on your Miata? Do you have an update on the fix? I did this fix recently and the screw back out in a few weeks, but i didnt use any threadlocker. Is the thread locker you used still holding the screw in place?
What are the alternatives of locktite? Thank you.
mine has the exact same issue, except instead of being rattly and loose its hard to pull
I mask off the black glue with plastic material so it doesn't get on my hands. Also threadlock might be applied without fully removing bolt - using a toothpick shaped tool. Just hit some of the threads and re-tighten.
Nevermind I got it .. I just sprayed penetrating oil.. and that got it to open again..
Hey ..y bolts rusty as heck.. what can I do.. my door it doing this as well
Neither the inside nor the outside latches work on mine. Any fix for that?
Good video but didn't help as you titles it 'latch'....it's the handle you are referring to.
The latch is on the side of the door.
