In an older car mag I have they did open an 1/8th mile drag course on a closed street. I think they don't pop up is because there needs to be funding, safety and staff to organize it. Local shops should really look into sponsoring legal drag races. I'm not against street racing, it's been going on since cars were built, it's the skill of drivers, or lack there of, that is giving street racing a bad rep. You are right, there needs to be more tracks and events for them to run on.

Street racing is less dangerous to the public than alcohol, yet alcohol is readily available everywhere. Everyone knows that kids will always street race, even adults. No matter the car, stock or modded. It's the thrill of going fast with others who enjoy the same thing. What they need to do is make an area that is readily available for street racers to race, maybe $5 or $10 for admission, that isn't far from everywhere, not just a drag strip 20+ miles away that's open one night a week.
