I read Angela Burnett’s ‘The Irma Diaries’ (you can get it on Amazon) with my eyes growing wider and my jaw dropping further - the survivor accounts are truly incredible. The recovery of these islands to date is a testament to resilience for sure. srok62 yes, surely every dwelling needs an underground bunker or some kind of hurricane protection.

Shouldn't the building of new structures also have a code so they can have a chance to survive tropical storms? Here in SW Florida all new construction must be built to withstand a CAT4 storm at minimum. Every Island I've visited in the Caribbean I've commented about how poorly an average person's home is constructed. Hopefully they'll be able to turn waste material into materials that can be used for construction, it only makes sense.

You have a great point that we have researched greatly. Structures in hurricane-prone areas do need to be more resilient, and recycling waste material makes great sense.
