He led a former modern era record of laps led in a 36 race season, and his average finish should have been better than 11.0 had a few things gone differently (engine issue at spring darlington; pit strategy at pocono 2; punted by Robby in the final race), as well as more wins. regardless, he was head and shoulders above everyone once the summer hit
The greatest of all time and the reason I say this is because he changed the sport and he changed with it. He was competitive till the day he retired
