In a seaside village on the outskirts of an Italian city, where the only law seems to be survival of the fittest, Marcello is a slight, mild-mannered man who divides his days between working at his modest dog grooming salon, caring for his daughter Alida, and being coerced into the petty criminal schemes of the local bully Simoncino, an ex-boxer who terrorizes the neighborhood. When Simoncino’s abuse finally brings Marcello to a breaking point, he decides to stand up for his own dignity through an act of vengeance, with unintended consequences.

I'm an italian who watched this film a few months ago with my father at the cinema. I'm very happy and proud that it's being aired internationally, because it's a very great movie worth being watched. The dim and intense setting and realistic characters and dialogue are truly captivating. This is based off a true story and totally worth your time as a viewer.

Great film
This film has a very lived-in atmosphere. Like you feel the characters and environment has realism.
But the ending is just random.
Saw this recently. I liked it, it's simple and uncomplicated. It had well shot and well written scenes with great performances. 7/10, totally recommend
That Cynic well reviewed. And it works on several levels. A cautionary tale/tragedy for modern times. No cumbersome, arty, dialogue. Perfect.

No, he doesn't feed him to holid dogs. The real story is much more terrifying of the movie, this is the murderer of canaro (dogman) of Magliana.

This movie isn't the masterpiece everybody claims it to be, it makes a big mistake in character bulding. At a certain point, the movie shows a man that, after having spent some months in prison, is determined to be respected by his "friend", but after a beating, he finally decides to organize a plan to trap the antagonist into a dog cage, and then you clearly see why the film shouldn't have made any further reference to the real events from which it is based. There is a stupid twist: Marcello locks Simone into a cage because he wants him to say he's sorry for everything he's done, but it's poorly written because as soon as Simone would have gone out, he would have beaten him once again, or rather he would have killed him, and we know from His words, and following actions, that Marcello didn't even want to hurt Simone. The whole idea between this big twist is not only stupid, it's also incoherent. I stopped sympathizing with the protagonist as soon as i discovered that he had begun to act non-sense, first he locks his nemesis into a cage and expects that everything will be fine after he apologizes, then he cures his wound after he destroys the cell, kills him only because he's forced to, then he says sorry but in the end he wants to show the corpse to his ex-friends like a trophy, acting once again incoherently. Don't misunderstand me, from the point of view of cinematography, it's one of the best films of the last years, but when it comes to the writing we can't really talk about a good work.
Mental illness, that's why the character stops making sense. His acting is amazing.

You expect people in a crisis situation to act coherently? Are you fucking stupid or just ignorant? The guy murdered someone for the very first time in his life after being abused by the man for a prolonged period of time and you expect the guy to act within reason? Use your brain.
