The colored pots with flowers hanging on the white fence look so cute. The whole yard is looking great! This video has really cheered me up. Today is the 10th anniversary of our daughter’s passing. She had a brain aneurysm at the age of 43. We still miss her terribly ❣️😢

Hi Jodi, Hurricane Beryl came through my area last week and left devastation all throughout . We were spared here at our home. Lost some big limbs and one 20 year old crepe myrtle in the back yard. Only without power for about 10 hours. My friends throughout town have been getting power restored slowly. So we have been feeding people and washing clothes for those who need it. Hosted my son and his family for several days while they replaced their ac unit that was zapped by the power surges experienced during the storm. They brought with them my 3 year old and 2 week old grandsons so that was a blessing to have unlimited cuddles! That’s what we’ve been doing! Hope you have a great day and I enjoyed seeing your progress on your flowers. Texas is too hot for some of those to do well so it is fun to see them growing in your neck of the woods!

You have really grown into quite the gardener. You should have a Gardening Journal to keep track of what species you have, what you have tried and want to try, and map where you have the different plants, what has worked or not worked and why; what needs full sun and what prefers shade and what you future goals / plans are. This would also help you track plant names, places. to buy from, prices, storage / protection needs etc. Love the birdie handles in the bathroom, they are so cute!

The pots on the fence are adorable and will look amazing as they begin to trail down. Hubs did a nice job of rocking your back garden bed. Becoming a very nice space to sit out and enjoy your hard work. I love hydrangeas, and they come in many different colors and styles. Hope you decide to pick up more of them.
The front garden is coming in nicely, especially with that show stopping hibiscus. Wow wee!
Zinnias also come in different sizes. Looks like you have the Lilliput rather than Giant. All are pretty. I always bought seed packets and sowed into the soil. They came up beautifully. I usually didn't spread them our too far apart so they would be bright clumps of color.

First year they sleep, 2nd year they creep, 3rd year they leap.... hostas should be fine, on the other stuff, remember that most plants shut down growth/blooming over a certain temperature. And huge swings on water can also affect. The heat wave probably shut most of this stuff down, but you might have some micro-climates going on too. More or less sun with the sunflowers. Warmer or cooler etc.

    Howdy from Texas
Jodi don’t worry about the weeds too much. My philosophy is tiny bites. I would be doing this if had not sprain my ankle. No fun btw. Usually walk the yard daily. Patrol is there fire ants. Bugs, powdery mildew, and weeds. Areas where I clean out the weeds I walk by and grab anyone coming back. I taken back control.
You will not believe it IT RAINED 2” in July. What? My plants should be stressed out with 100+F weather.
Patrol of the yard worked. I had a goal to get fire ants under control. Plus I didn’t want neighbors ants to move in. I used bait ant killer. Walked edge of property putting out killer. As I would walk the yard every ant nest would get treated. Psst. I think it is under control. Tomorrow since it rained would be good day to check that out.
Oh my weed of this summer is Dallisgrass. I went on vacation and my yard went crazy. When I am not hurting. I will get this problem under control. Oh I have spear grass(needle grass) oh mass spreader. I was working on it. Then I went on vacation and it is out of control. Now it gone to seed and to sleep for summer. I will get after it when it germinates. The heat kills it back.
Today saw butterfly season is starting. Oh yes.
Last fall I planted more plants for butterflies. Who knows if plants will make it.
Woman I have so many plants need to be split. Like iris and daylillies. Only have so much energy. Geez it is July. I am happy the Ac is working.
Yup I go to work at 5am in bed by 8:30pm. By the time sun is setting I need to be going to sleep. No way changing work schedule.

Looking good, Jodi... Hi 👋 . Great score on cardboard! Good catch on the bare roots.
Yes the zinnias were looking droopy. I like the sticks, too.
Ok trouble shooting: sunflower. Take a 2-liter soda bottle or a couple of clearer gallon plastic jugs ( one on top of the other after cutting out the bottom of lower one & just above the handle around and tape together to form a "baffle" to keep it safe until it gets taller. It will grow through the small open topped upper jug and when it gets big enough they'll stop chewing on it. ) to protect it.
Shaded/ not shaded area: you can put up a "shade cloth" over the area. An older sheet will work well or a green curtain or table cloth will work, too. Think small canopy. As that area is mainly a triangle you can do a triangular cloth.
Seeded dahlias are different. They don't like being crowded, I think.
    Hydrangeas look good.
Caladium is doing well! That cherry chocolatte hibiscus, that's the color of the name. And yes, it's very pretty!
Ok. Might have to add another comment if it won't let me edit again.

Hey Jodi, would you consider putting the names on screen if you introduce new plants? I love to look them up, see how we call them and if I know them.. but we never learned botanical english in school, and as a non- native- speaker.. it took me a while to find the Haindrenshas 😂
But your gardens comes together so beautifully! It’s a joy to watch, and you really gut the hang of it! Snowwhite, feeding her little friends 😃 If you leave nuts out for them under the birdfeeder, maybe they’ll start ignoring it?
We have a little wooden house in the country, and when I was a toddler we left hazelnuts and apple slices out for the squirrels every morning. They sure loved it, and I could distinguish all of them too. I still remember my grandpa making little thrillers to let them know breakfast was ready 🙂 one had a white ear, one a black foot.. one a very sad tail, one was lifting its little foot up when it stood still.. I love those little critters.

Jodi, those thumbs are getting greener by the week girlfriend! 😊
The hanging baskets on the fence look so cute. Ever since you started on this backyard last year, I envisioned the swingset area all cleaned out so your cute grandbabies could enjoy it. After it's cleaned up, could covering the area in cardboard choke out the poison ivy along with the weeds? Even the faded toddler picnic table would be sweet for snacks outside!
Then, (if money grew on trees) you should blow off that back deck and put a nice outdoor dining table with a big umbrella so you can enjoy it out there!!!
I emailed you a while back and sent some pictures of our boys. The one in the Navy was home for a visit and just flew back to japan. 😢
I'll try to email an update with pics of our back deck. We love it out there. 😉

Whatever you do with covering the bed you last did. Beside the deck. I would advise to not cover the cardboard with dirt or compost. Because weeds will grow just in the dirt or compost on top and the cardboard will decompose and you'll be back with having weeds. 🙈🙊

Hi AGAIN, BACK again. Nice that Hubs moved all those rocks to fill that in for you. Really nice. I know. You were worried he could've hurt himself and you wouldn't have been there to help him. GIRL, he's okay. He did good. Yes, he could've done great if he'd put back the cardboard he skewed but you know what.... that's quite a LOT of CARING for you and what you said you wanted to do... eventually 😂.
Those planters on the fence are lovely, too.
Ok. Now. Start collecting flower seeds for next year and label them!!! You can use envelopes or jars or just plastic sandwich bags with a label in them.
Yes your coleous is getting eaten. That's why it's flowering. It's in trouble.
What am i doing? 😂went with a friend to a peach orchard to pick peaches at 1330h(1pm) on Sunday. Extremely hot here& Under warning. Got overheated but came home with enough peaches to can a dozen pint jars. Which won't last long eating 1 jar a week...who am i kidding, I can eat a jar a day. 😂😅. Today im knocking out another dozen 3/4 quart jars of broth for making my rice & soups...all from scraps I've saved in freezer bags. I am sad because for the last 2 years most of my beef has been boneless (all i can afford) and the only bones i tend to get for chicken are from leg quarters. So no beef broth, just chicken. And i haven't bought lamb with bones in about 3 years and out of that from freezer so no lamb broth either. I don't hunt so no deer bones for deer broth. No bison, buffalo or beefalo around here either.
But veg broth or chicken broth still zhuses up rice or potatoes or gravy so that's something.
Did you know the seeds in zucchini that everyone vuts out and throws away adds lots of nutrients to broth...also the parts of peppers no one wants to eat = same. Same. Peels and tips of carrots, turnips, not waxed rutabaga, parsnip, root ends of onions scallions and peels of all onion family ,garlic, ginger & turmeric. Oh. And tomato cores, too.
I can't get much at a time but every little bit helps.
Was also gifted some blackberry & peach leaves which are now dried for my winter tea.
Your flowers... You could start a little spiral notebook on each type, colors, varieties and where you're planting them each year and what isdues they're having. That would help in the future. Those plant labels could go in there or under the glass top of a deck table.
Ok. Enough chit chat, back to chores!!! Oh yeah you knocked out both of those weec vhores a lot faster this year!!!
    Bye!

Don’t forget to fertilizer everything. Especially your potted plants. But even the ones in the ground. Also for your weed and bare ground. Maybe try clover seed? It stays low so it doesn’t need mowing. Bees love it. And it adds nitrogen to the soil! It will keep the other weeds away!

Too much or not enough water can affect. Stuff like sedum flops in too much shade or too rich of soil since they don't like super fertile soil.

Jodi we have some big some small zinnia blooms I don’t think you should chop them just enjoy them why would you use dirt or compost on top of the cardboard. That does not make sense. Do the mulch. My daughter has a horticulture degree and that was her advice.
