  • In this episode watch along as I make bridge abudments for my kato bridges from 2" foam.
    Also made 2 tunnel portals following Drew at drusteel69 tunnel portal episode. link to that video: • AJS Model Railway N sc...
    Also check out Georgia Sun belts episode on different materials for different textures on foam.
    • For Ian - Lehigh River...
    I painted both the bridge abudments and tunnel portals using dollar acrylic paints. I used a mixture of medium gray, mixed with white at a 50/50 mix.

    For anybody interested, the bevel device Ian is using (2:08) is called a SWANSON TOSB01 Speed Bevel Folding Speed Square. It's available for under $8. But I'm lazy and got a digital bevel (a little more money, a lot more accurate) for less than $30.
    Thanks Ian, this gives me a lot of ideas!

      Thank you very much Sir! And thank you for thr information on the Bevels. Im horrible with names of stuff. Im going to look into the digital one myself! I like accuaracy! Since this video i recapped 2 of these abutments with plaster and carved stone, as i do not have the skill to carve foam, its easier for me to caeve plaster lol. But these worked great for me, and are like you said a way to spark ideas for other folks! Glad you found this helpful, and sparked ideas! Glad to hear that! Thank you very much and take care!

    Well done, Ian. Nice to see ideas being shared among the model railroading community (in this case Drew's channel). You never know what you'll find out there.

    Great job Ian on making the winged abutments for your model railroad. I made staring abutments for a future work on my planned permanent layout next spring when I move to a bigger place. I will be working on finishing up the steam locomotive oil tank as I have the Kato Southern Pacific 10 car Morning Daylight train set & the GS-4 steam locomotive number 4449 in Southern Pacific Daylight colors which is my excursion train & my Amtrak train is the Coast Starlight as my Amtrak Superliner train. I made cardboard cutouts for the planned passenger station covered walkway & train station which I modeling after the Santa Barbara Amtrak station with a few differences which are the covered walkways along the double track & from the station to the covered walkway along the tracks.

      Thank you chris, ill have to look up the Santa barber station.... I never seen it. Thats great your able to get things done for your permanent layout, should help progress once you start on it. Do you have the kato gs-4? Theyre a beautiful unit. As is the passenger set. I enjoy trying to build things from scratch, sounds like you do too! Have a great day and thanks for watching.

      @@LRSX Ian my n scale GS4 steam locomotive number 4449 is a Kato, so is my Southern Pacific N scale 10 car Morning Daylight set, all of my Amtrak locomotives which are the P42 GE Genesis numbers 28, 156-Amtrak 40th. Anniversary & 161 as well as my Amtrak Superliner cars, Amtrak baggage car-Heritage & my Santa Fe freight locomotive which is the EMD Sdp40F and two Southern Pacific covered hoppers & all of my N scale track, bumpers, number 6 turnout switches are all Kato. My other N scale freight cars are Micro trains, Atlas & my Santa Fe caboose is a Bachman & the Southern Pacific caboose is an Athearn. I buy my model railroad track, freight cars & locomotives at Obie’s trains in Apachee Junction,AZ or at Reed’s Hobby shop in La Mes,CA when I’m home in the San Diego area.

      Sounds like you have a great fleet of rolling stock. I've been very happy with the kato unitack. My sister just moved from San Diego in January to norfolk. Never got to visit out there while she was though. There is alot of great hobby stores out there, I visited 2 recently that I never was to around me. What size have you been thinking of doing on your permanent layout?

    • @christopherorourke6543
      @christopherorourke6543 Před 3 lety

      @@LRSX Ian this size of my planned layout will be 4 X 8 for starters, then I plan to expand it to 6 X 12 & add a second deck, I plan on doing the inclines which for every inch I will add 1/8 of an inch which equates to a 1.25% grade. My guess is your sister is either active duty Navy or Marine Corps or Coast Guard because of the 3 seas services have bases in the San Diego & Norfolk, VA areas. My first ship in the Navy was in Norfolk, VA. I used to live in not only California, but Hawaii, my birthplace of Buffalo, NY, the Buffalo area, Ridley Park, PA just outside Philadelphia, Elwood, NJ, near Atlantic City, Newark, DE before I went to Great Lakes for Navy boot camp. I have a niece that lives in Chadds Ford, PA. I used to live in Tucson. The San Diego, Los Angeles areas & the Philippines where I met my late wife of 31 years in 1975 are the very best areas I lived in. In a few month I will be moving to Casa Grande with my youngest son to a new house where I will have more room for my planned layout.

    • @LRSX
      @LRSX  Před 3 lety

      @@christopherorourke6543 my sister boyfriend/basically married w.o. the paper is in the navy. She's been norfolk Seattle, Cleveland, San Diego, and norfolk again. Sounds like you have a good plan already that will make construction smoother. I somewhat did but it ended up bigger then originally intended when I decided to build in the basement instead of the attic. I have 2% grades and that drops what a single locomotive can pull in half. So 1.25 is alot better grade.

    I am curious. What brand rasp file is that with a rasp on one side and a regular type flat file surface on the opposite side. Thanks.

      Thank you very much! I appreciate your feedback. I will leave a link to a video where i redid these and added plaster. Not that i didnt like these, all for a prototypical look. But they've worked wonderfully for 3 years now. As for your question about the rasp/file. I looked on it, woodcraft is stamped on it. But i googled and it just brought up all different brands. But i did buy them at Lowe's. So maybe you can find one there browsing the tool section. I originally bought that for the rouned side to do my viaduct. Hope that helps. Take care and thanks for watching!

      I appreciate your reply and nice work. I'll will have to check more of your videos to check your layout out. Thanks.....
