      @@ScottishWildFishing oh I agree, Menteith at the right time of year will do a 40plus.
      I can remember fishing places like Venachar in the trossachs in the early 2000s when it did the 40 at the farm end but that was before the venue went down hill, when I was based up in RAF Kinloss I was enjoying the Highland lochs had some cracking Pike from there.

    • @ScottishWildFishing
      @ScottishWildFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes agree 100%, alot of people talk about venacher, there was a 30+ out last year and this year, I have fished it a few times and had a couple of Jack's, also fished it on the float tube and had to work hard for a couple of broonies! Love the highland wild lochs but got to take where you can get just now with how the country is! Also planning a trip over to Ireland with the boat when time allows!

    Have to agree with David bourne's comment here, 80lb +., That line parted far too easy. We all make mistakes though, once we correct the mistake that's the main thing!. Congratulations on a truly Giant Fish. Magnificent 👍

    • @ScottishWildFishing
      @ScottishWildFishing  Před 3 lety

      Appreciate your opinion mate and do agree was just pointing out that its easy to say it wouldn't happen with braid but then the weak point becomes the fish and rips it to pieces. Thanks again 🎣

    • @richarddunne9875
      @richarddunne9875 Před 3 lety

      @@ScottishWildFishing I'm not sure I understand you? Can u give me an example of how a fish could be ripped to prices with 80lb braid, if you convince me then I will stop using it. Genuine question.

    • @ScottishWildFishing
      @ScottishWildFishing  Před 3 lety

      @@richarddunne9875 not meaning anyone should stop using braid, I use braid myself. What I meant by replying to the original comment was if it was braided line and the fish was tangled, I have seen issues in the past with the fish then being stuck in the anchor rope and you can't pull for a break, in those circumstances your then potentially damaging the fish. Either way its not something I would ever want!

    • @richarddunne9875
      @richarddunne9875 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ScottishWildFishing fair play for replying, most would just throw a hissy over a friendly debate. Iv had it happen with two big fish, albeit nothing like the Giant you just had, but a 25 and a 28 that went around back anchors. In both cases we just pulled up the anchor and the 80lb braid held up no probs, both fish were landed unharmed and returned. No matter what you do if you are fishing for pike there is always SOME chance you could damage a fish, but light braid... Certainly anything under 60lbs gives pike no chance around an anchor rope, best case the hook will snag, the pike will break free. Otherwise the like will part and the pike is left dragging yards of braid. That's a dead pike. There is a better chance for the fish with heavier braid in my opinion mate. I honestly believe if you had 80lb braid there you would have a brace of very big fish there👍.

    • @ScottishWildFishing
      @ScottishWildFishing  Před 3 lety +1

      @@richarddunne9875 will always reply mate and not out to argue, will take advice whenever available! Always something to learn, I totally understand what your saying and I do agree. Like you mentioned earlier its happened and now we have rectified it and learned from it. I also think what you said, fishing for pike there is always something to go wrong. I didn't want to removed this from the video as it is what it is and if anything it can teach someone else what can happen, alot out there want to talk the big game like nothing has ever happened to them! Allways appreciate comments, thanks again 🎣

    • @ScottishWildFishing

      Never a situation an angler wants but also seen the downside with braid, have braid that wont break and allowing the fish to damage itself in a tangle. Granted braid has its place.
