    The Lady with the magic touch. Wonderful. You can hear the little put-put of the barker lever pneumatics as she lays. Amazing organist (French of course) playing the origins of Symphonic organ music. Perfect match.

    ...ahh, my favoruite lady of the organ. I had the wonderful opportunity to not just hear her perform a wonderful recital of Bach works at St Marks in Seattle but also sit down and talk with her.

    I was so happy to find you playing this piece. I've studied with Bess Hieronymus and she took a group of us to be in San Remy with Jean-Pierre LECAUDEY. When he played this piece I cried and cried for joy because of recalling of my heart warming experience as a youngster, a student practicing on a 'Reuter' organ in a damp and empty auditorium every night on this song. Thank you, thank you my favorite organist, Marie Claire Alain!

    Beautiful playing by Mme Alain - as always. The image of the console is magnificent. The organ, including its original console, has never been vandalised and is maintained in all its glory. It has a very similar specification to the original Ste Clothilde instrument.

      Yes ! And you know, it is funny but when you 'pull on a stop', it is something different of pressing on an electric domino...

    マリー・クレール・アランの演奏は絶大の信頼がおける。うら悲しい前奏曲、華やかな和音、不思議な主題のフーガ、前奏曲の主題の変奏曲と、素晴らしい出来やな。

    I question Mr Davis's understanding of the organ...the 'clicks' he refers to is the sound of the organs action

    • @Werckstarck
      @Werckstarck Před 7 lety

      Mr Davis is well known for his disdain of the organ and he keeps remembering it to us on every organ video. Incidentally, there is always someone who reminds him how llittle we care about his opinion.

    Where ever you are Dear… M. C., NEVER STOP LEARNing…. Yes the swell pedal. Listen. What do you have …. an early lunch? What the f…. is the hurry:. By playing it like this, you miss the spirit of whole of the point of the piece. Sorry. Maybe you've… played it too many times. Sorry about that too. Even thought you're dead, your interpretation lives, and yet, you missed the whole point. Sent with love . CVD.

      It flows beautifully. She had not played it too often. She had lived with it for years and it became part of her. May people play it faster. And slower. There's room in great music played by a great organist for many different interpretations.
      And SHE never did stop learning. Never. If you had known her and heard her over and over throughout the years you would know that.

    • @charlesdavis5802
      @charlesdavis5802 Před 9 lety

      Hi Norma; I've worked on this piece for over 30 years, both the piano and the organ versions. Personally, although I'm an organist, I prefer the piano version. When one reads the dedication related to this work, one begins to realize what in intimate, personal and sublime work this is. The bombastic power of the organ, her speed and her registration… don't do it for me. She was a great organists and truly worthy of our attention. However, the organ version of this great masterpiece fails to express the subtler emotions that Franck (I believe) was trying to express. Sent with love. CVD

    Dear Marie-Claire; obviously, you are a very fine organist. You already know that part! But what you may not know is this is a terrible recording… with all that clicking. Also, for me, the Neo-Romantic disposition of Franck, when writing this particular piece, namely, upon the passing of a friend, suggests a more intimate interpretation of the great work. I would recommend listening to it being played on the piano by a number of great pianists… then take it back to the organ. The word "rubato" comes to mind. We all are in the process of learning and growing; are we not? Sent with love. CVD

      Dear Todd, yes, in some ways I am an idiot. I didn't know she had passed way. But my feelings about Franck's Prelude, Fugue and Variations have not changed. Have you heard Vincent Dubois' version of this work on the organ? He's wonderful, too. But I just don't care for it on the organ. I wrote Vincent about it too. Still learning and growing. Thanks for the post. CVD

      Charles Davis "I also have assess to a Ro(d)gers Organ in LA"... Indeed, Cavaillé-Coll organ in France is nothing front of such a great musical instrument (LOL). Can we hear your interpretation please ?
