  • Find out how much horsepower & torque the Goodwin-Racing RoadsterSport SuperStreet Exhaust makes as we DYNO TEST this popular aftermarket Miata axle-back exhaust on our project car, the 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF GT-S! How much HP & TQ can an aftermarket exhaust add to our ND / ND2 (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021) Mazda Miata project car make? We dyno test several aftermarket performance exhausts on our 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF on a DYNOJET DYNO as part of our multi-video Miata exhaust comparison series. We'll routinely dyno test our Miata RF as we embark on our Miata modification journey, starting with Miata aftermarket exhausts and midpipes from Goodwin Racing, the Goodwin Racing Roadster Sport Super Street exhaust, and the Greddy, the Greddy Supreme SP exhaust.

    Interesting data! I guess I’m not very surprised considering how the baffle tapers down and would really make the flow turbulent as the airflow can get behind it.
    I purchased the same exhaust a few weeks ago for my 2020 RF. Love it! And yes, a little low frequency tone in the cabin at low rpm, but it’s not bad. Awesome sounds when on the pedal though.
    Thanks for the great video/data!

    Thanks for the great video! It seems the gains for either exhaust relative to stock are so small that you'd likely not notice a performance difference. The sound however, is another matter.

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  Před 3 lety

      Exactly! We’ll see if the midpipe adds any noticeable hp gains without making it too loud.

  • @Post_Leako
    @Post_Leako Před 3 lety +1

    I can't wait to see how this stacks up with the midpipe. Goodwin's stuff seems promising, but it always kind of bothered me that, based on my research, their midpipe is heavier than stock. Maybe it can redeem those weight gains with some dyno gains though.
    I dunno if this is in the cards, but I'd love to see an in-depth review on the Racing Beat Sport/Race Muffler as well since it's the other big one I'm considering. Keep up the great work!

    • @TheLemonFactor

    • @cyrusnanavati

      @@TheLemonFactor Hi Chad - I have got the GWR Shorty Header (ceramic finish) - its a 4-2-1 header which is supposed to be better for mid range torque (which is what I prefer over outright top end Power). I also wanted to keep the whole system with one supplier (Goodwin) so I went with their "Complete" system ie the header, mid pipe and their Super Q (header version) - I am really happy with the syystem both in terms of sound (quite mellow and not as loud as the SSST) as well as performance. The header gets rid of the front CAT and so the only CAT is the free flowing CAT in the mid pipe. Performance is really improved and its such a pleasure to drive. I am playing around with Tunes at the moment. I have a standard Versatuner 93 Fuel stock car tune at present - but in the process of trying out a custom tune to take into account that the car is modified.

      Thank you, tludwig400! Yes, while it sounds good with the baffle, it’s less appealing to me without the baffle. We’ll see what the addition of the midpipe does to the sound (besides making it louder) and performance 🤷‍♂️

  • @Daniel-rw2gy
    @Daniel-rw2gy Před 2 lety

    Fyi seems like you might’ve incorrectly referred to this as the gwr race which is actually a different muffler.. in fact I wonder if the race version would have a bit more power since it has the most straight piped design

    Since the exhaust takes up less space underneath, is the underside aerodynamically affected? Does it create any stability issues at higher speeds? I watched a video of someone installing a Verus rear diffuser and claims it helps with the above issues due to smaller exhausts

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  Před 3 lety +1

      I have not noticed any instability issues at any speed. I’m sure a rear diffuser helps in smoothing out the air flow, but to an extent that is noticeable at legal speeds is questionable. 🤷‍♂️

  • @shiftintohigh5564
    @shiftintohigh5564 Před 3 lety +1

    ND.1 here. I have the Goodwin twin tip SS, Baffle installed, defiantly faster than stock. Mid range rpms is excellent. Rolling punch throws you back into the seat. I will remove it and see if its faster than the installed. Before, when installed, I couldn’t tell much difference speed wise with the baffle, just sound wise like the higher pitch.

    • @TheLemonFactor
      @TheLemonFactor  Před 3 lety

      Is there a baffle for each pipe on the twin tip version?

    • @shiftintohigh5564
      @shiftintohigh5564 Před 3 lety +1

      @@TheLemonFactor No, just one baffle. 3 positions moving it in or out. Kinda got the impression the Mazda liked a little back pressure, I liked the higher pitch, so its all the way in. IMHO, it makes it like the single outlet exhaust, but with the look of the twin. You cant beat the quality of the Good-Win. Nice shiny metal.

      Same dyno, dyno operator, and setup settings. The dyno results will adjust to climate differences. However, to answer your question it was low 30 degrees F for this run, and the comparison, stock run was done in February, so colder, dryer temperatures as well.

    Thank you Chad for the details of the several test you made. This video and all the other ones. Are you considering adding a tune to your car? I own a 2019 RF Club Sport and I installed a Magnaflow cat-back exhaust last spring. I wasn't sure my choice was right until I watched your video. The Dyno test I did to my car indicated a 178.7 WHP @ 7000 RPM and 158.3 lbs-ft of torque @ 4900 RPM. I also installed a Takeda intake which may help the performance. The airflow test I did with the Takeda indicate a 12.7% flow increase compare to the Mazda OEM Intake box. Unfortunately I did not do Dyno testing of the mods separately so I don't know where I gain most performance.

I’m just afraid of the tuning that goes with adding one to a na car .looks like even the folks that put the edlebrock supercharger on the nd1 have a fair share of tune promblems . I do not have the skills to tune a turbo nd2.

    just curious, did you swap the mufflers after each series of runs? To be even remotely scientific, you'd need to do that. If you test them weeks or months apart, there will be a significant delta due to at least a dozen variables. The software can help with some, but it is still an extrapolation.
