Photography Tip - Shoot Professional Looking Head Shots At Home

  • Need a head shot or portrait for your driving license, work profile of web page? Model Abbie's agent asked her for some new head shots which needed to be clear representations of Abbie with out make up or cool looks. In this case a head shot is a look at the blank canvas of the model without loads of make up or styling.
    As with all photography the key is to think about what you're doing and use the building blocks of photography to make it come together. Block 1 would be to find great light. Block 2 is to work out the composition, 3 what focal length do you need to achieve that etc...
    Join us for a look at how to shoot low tech head shots in great light almost regardless of the location. Get comfy - this is a longer one...

    When Abby held the tortoise she had the best natural smile. I know models are not always supposed to smile but she really showed some personality at that moment.

  • @MikeBrowne
    @MikeBrowne  Před 10 lety

    Thank you. I thought I'd answered Kevin - apologies if I missed it. Colour or black and white is a creative choice for you the photographer - or if you're doing it professionally a choice for your client. It's a bit like saying it's better to have a grey car than a blue or yellow one. There's no rule - if you like B&W shoot it. The great thing is you can have both with digital photography.

    Whilst the wide aperture does make a lovely soft background the 50mm shot I took a shorter lens distorts the face a bit when in close and the field of view isn't narrow enough to exclude the clutter either side.

    Hmmm I'll think on it. I'm not into posing people myself because i like to photograph the person being themselves rather than something I've turned them into. I don't shoot studio portraiture for this reason and only occasionally shoot portraits at all. And they are mostly in the subjects own environment. I chat and talk with them and take photos as they reveal emotions, happiness quirkiness etc. I'll think on it though. Thanks for the idea...
