You could easily 3D print a spacer for the laser and that bracket. Plus, that plastic shield looks like it could also be drilled out for air assist without too much effort as well. Good find.
You are 100% correct!!! I was thinking about CNC a ring from wood (no 3D printer ATM!) Thanks for the idea!!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsmanjust picked up a couple at 50% off from microcenter.
To fit that on your machine just cut 2 washers of that plywood you have on video internal diameter same the laser external diameter same than the motor bracket easy for you if don't have a lathe to do a proper adapter and will be solid on bracket😉
The video after this one shows me making a small bracket as you described in the comment. Check it out! Thanks for watching!!!
That us too cool.
Thanks for watching!
Wow that thing looks like a lot of fun hnn
Laser & CNC is a ton of fun!!!!
looks like the casing of the small engraving motors was used.
I don’t think this one was used.
Check what your local plumbing supply store has for adapters. If you measure the thickness of the original split tube for holding the motor and made one from an adapter ( so the larger flange area acts like the lip ) you may find one thin enough for the laser and act like a C shim ( tube with a slot cut out to allow it to be shrunk around like the motor's shim ). Interesting idea to use the furry part of Velcro to do a similar job and not mark up the inner diameter of the tool holder. The other option is to get plate aluminum of at least 5 mm and make a bracket specifically for it. The reason for at least that thick is so you can slot where the laser holding plate will fit and help with keeping it at a 90 degree from the Z mount.
Thanks for the idea! I posted today my remedy for the issue!!! Thanks for watching!!!
Odd you never mentioned the ventilation needed for the smoke & nasties from many materials when burned, and the need for safety glasses since there's the "focus" gap where the beam is exposed... But if you already have all the gantry and programs & good ventilation, not a bad option to add an extra tool. But etching metal is impossible at that low power. You need a special coating which the laser then initiates a reaction on the metal to create the image...
I could have added some of those facts in the video but this really is a “replacement” laser for the most part. There is so much Laser Education videos out there that I just wanted to keep focus on the Laser itself and nothing more. Thanks for watching!
You could cut the sleeve on a bandsaw and that would compress down small enough to fit that laser and still be able to use on the milling head.
My Saturday video is going to be how I fixed the problem!! Thanks for watching!!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsmanyou're welcome
So I have a 3015 gathering dust. This may get it back working. Thanks! What is the exact width of the laser case?
I can double check in a bit but I’m pretty sure it’s 44mm! Awesome and get that baby going!!!
On the fox Alien generic laser how did the wiring match the fox aliens receptacle? The video on the fox alien you showed a separate control box that you taped on to the front. What do we do in the case of purchasing the generic?
The little control box is specifically for the 20w laser as it’s needed for its one power. Otherwise it will just plug directly into the main control box and use the power from the Foxalien controller. Pretty much plug and play.
So, could something like this go on a 3d printer your not using anymore?
I’ve never seen it done before. I’m not sure If Lightburn would recognize the printer. I’m going to put it out thare and say no. 🥴
You could 3D print a sleeve to fit the laser
I don’t have a 3D printer…. Or do I!??? You’ll have to wait until tomorrows video to find out!!!
My Xtool 20 Watt will cut through 3m at 560 mm/min. It did cost $1100 though LOL!
Those XTools are nice but 💰💰💰. Maybe someday I’ll try one out. I’d love to try their software too.
How does the software control the on and off of the laser?
Lightburn tells it when to turn in and off and power. It’s pretty amazing!
The Amazon link now links to a different $99 5W laser. There are 4 options on the page, and the one laser that looks similar to the one in the video is only 2.5W (optical). It DOES appear to be the same seller/manufacturer, but take notice as to what you're ordering!
I’ll check it out!!! Thanks for the heads up!!!
+Rob Davis looks like your right! Maybe they sold out so replaced with the “Square” one! It’s still fixed focus and 5.5w Optical and comes with safety glasses so that’s cool. Hopefully the cylindrical one comes back as described! Thank you!
I just wish you would pronounce Ma-Su-Ter correctly. LOL Other than that, nice.
Sorry!
What if you need to laser something that isnt flat?
It will most likely get out of focus on the lower and higher spots and not look right. You can get a rotary tool that will roll items such as mugs but that’s about it.
Im thinking about something like small river rocks, like you would use for skipping across calm water.@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman
You can do those….
Do not look in laser with remaining eye. ;)
I highly recommend not looking at the laser with your remaining eye! 😉
Audio issues need new mic.
Really? I didn’t think it was bad but I do plan on getting a Rode or DJI soon. What are you hearing that’s bad. Any feedback so I can do better would be greatly appreciated!
It's only a 5w OP this would only be good for some engraving and paper cutting.. sure it would burn wood or cut it if it's really thin and you do like 10 passes on 100%
Not worth $99 you can get 5w's for less than $50
+Microponics 10 passes? Did you watch the video? I did mention that’s it’s 5w Optical and demonstrated that it will cut 3mm Bass wood in 1 pass. Yes there are less expensive lasers and yes I have a video on one of those too. Check them out! Thanks!
Get out of vision! We don't need to see you.
I don’t even know what that means! 🤣
