Dust is awesome channel!
I totally agree!
They must have 10 M sub
Its awesome
This is a very well retelling of the story of Jona
agree
Watched this twice... still have no idea what’s going on.
@Baba Ganush oof that’s dark. But I thought the council wanted him to only warn the inhabitants of their incoming doom and probably die if they don’t accept the council’s help. Not negotiate peace?
Johnah and the whale. Jonah was sent to Ninevah by God to help them, he refuses and boards a ship to anywhere, the ship hits a storm and the crew throw Jonah overboard, he is swallowed by the whale and puked up on the shores of Ninevah.
Graham Smith hahahaha me too
Exactly the same here. I’m like what??
@@betsybattles2696 I see. I'm not much of a student of arcane Old Testament mythology. Thanks for the explanation.
I don't know guys, I really like Dust as I love SciFi, but I have to admit a lot of the stories make me scratch my head, still, very happy the channel exists.
Dust, I love you deadly, as much as the Vorga T but rarely have I time to scratch my head.
This is a modern interpretation of Jonah.
@@garbonzobean1 I thought it was weird that the planet was called Nineva.
@Voice Over........that's a polite way of saying "what the hell just happened here?" Hey, I don't get it either, so, join the club!
oober goober
How did you come up with that?
yes, it is the story of Jonah. The lottery system for seeing whose fault it is, him trying to escape his duty, being cast overboard. Even that council member as holograph, all parallel, very good.
Philip you called that one. Nothing new under the sun.
had the feeling it was that 2:30 into this; hence stopping the vid at 2:55 looking for confirmation I found here :)
On the list of "Things I wasn't expecting to watch today", I'd say that a sci-fi retelling of the Story of Jonah ranks pretty high, but here we are.
riiight... this was pretty excellent
I'm amazed at the comments - that so few people know about Jonah. The planet's even called "Ninevah".

There's a 'British' English now??? How about, there's English, and then there is the bastardised version spoken by some other countries????????

Of course they speak British English. What else would any advanced societies speak?

Eyebrows. You're missing eyebrows.
Guess those solar storms can get pretty hot eh
Haha XD
Omg i said the samething 😂😂
they’re at least 1 degree hotter than Florida
*MY EYEBROWS!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!*
And from the hail i came from even hotter than sunnys orange juice tags
With everyone else pointing out the Jonah/whale references, I didn't see anyone pointing out that the ship is named "ORKA".
or the whale song that keeps playing.
Nice catch
And the whale tooth
Or that his name is Joe.

I thought this was a very nice retelling of the story of Jonah! They made it different enough that the parallels aren't obvious at first, but once you see them, it plays out very nice, although I did find the ending a bit anticlimactic.
exactly
This short film feels more like a prologue than a complete film. However, it is very well done and flies by quickly.
That’s because it’s a retelling of only part of the Biblical story of Jonah.
Most of the Dust videos feel that way.
@@carsonianthegreat4672 Jonah ends on an unanswered question. A cliffhanger is very appropriate
He judged this planet as unworthy. But in reality there was some loveliness there.
So THAT'S where the princess from Never Ending Story has been hiding since the 80's.
And that's all there is to it!
LMAO!
Lmao I thought that too
She developed a spice addiction and started idolizing elsa from frozen
Atrayu say my name!
I'm continually blown away by the acting in these films. So many talented people!
I thought I saw a smiliarity...then when he said the planet was Nineveh i knew my suspicion was correct. Jonah in space
I have to say the crew of this ship was a lot more composed than most I've seen in movies. Usually at the slightest hint of trouble they all become crazed and do idiotic things.
One out of three was.
I am so surprised to see how many people were confused at the ending! The peacemaker ends up on the enemies planet that he previously refused to protect from the impeding doom, as he believes they are an evil race. However, the so called enemies are not as hostile as we are originally lead to believe as the end of the film shows the "enemy" building a fire and covering the peacemaker with a blanket to warm him up and protect him. When the peacemaker wakes, we see the shocked/aggressive look on his face which causes the "enemy'" to retreat. At that exact moment, the peacemaker realises what the enemy has done for him and apologises, perhaps for the hostility between their races as he realises he was wrong. Further to this theory, in the beginning we see the council the peacemaker belongs to threatening him and that they will hunt him down, even though he has done so much for them. In the end, the peacemaker/human race are in fact the evil/hostile ones.
Dead honest, I keep waiting for The Doctor to keep showing up, just the look of this film makes me think Dr Who
Me too! It's like a old Dr Who story, except the Doctor never shows. I guess that happens a lot in a big universe. :)
So, any species advanced enough to have been an aggressor in a past interstellar war would certainly not need anyone to tell them about the danger of a pulsar.
Unless they lost. And were blasted back to the stone age. Never says how old the peacemaker is, just that he's served a long long time.
@@marshallinnocent5275 If they were blasted back to the stone age, what good would warning them about a pulsar do anyway?
@@brandonthorne3950 they'd use their mind squids.
Dunno about that. We have a "species" right here on good ol' Mother Earth thats had lots of serious wars in the past, and still they haven't figured the danger of the current weaponry that's available and at their disposal to use. What's to say they would recognize the danger of a pulsar? Probably chalk it up to some religious will of "X" deity and then fight against any who'd disagree with said "will". Go all Postal on them.
@@marshallinnocent5275 Gargantia?
Space films are difficult to do on this scale. Especially on a low budget. Decent effort.
Just realized that this is like a sci-fi version of the story of Jonah and it’s awesome.
I was thinking. “I have heard of that planet”
I wondered if his name was Jonas or something subtle like that when they started rolling the relic... Then he said the planet was Nineveh lol
Thanks to Dust for existing, creating and curating. Have been seeking such a channel on CZcams for a very long time. Keep up the good work.

This was amazing. There's a culture here, a culture unlike any that we usually see in science fiction. But there's also a story. None of these characters have names, but Ms. Scotty, Black Eddie Redmayne, and all the rest of these characters feel real and fascinating. Great, great job.
I love you guys. You have saved my sanity! I wish my film studies had not been before all the wonderfully sophisticated CGI. Wow. So many talented writers to get to know. Thanks in advance for helping me DUST myself off!
Just got the Jonah subtext...And that’s why the ship uses whale songs as sounds!
These shorts by Dust, are really well done. Good visuals, good writing, good acting, well produced. Really, quite impressive.
The quality of production is just unbelievable ,this channel alone can pay for all these ?
Don’t know how either! Sc***w Netflix!
Excellent spin on the story of Jonah and the whale.
Jonah! Great idea! How cool would it be for someone to make scifi versions of all the great bible stories!
5 minutes in, when they're talking about a supernatural storm and an unnamed guy on board, I made the same connection. I love this concept!

Really quite outstanding -- fantastic acting, thoughtful direction, and writing that never overplays its hand. A brilliant reimagining of the story, and I am genuinely eager to see what these filmmakers do next!
Overpaying your hand is a negative thing.
What wonderful and weird world building. So much happened---so much back story and future potential---and yet the director & team set such a great pace.
I couldn't figure out why this story was feeling so familiar - and then he said the word "Nineveh". Well done, extremely well done.
An excellent retelling of Jonah!!
Also can i just say that as a Christian I found "Everyone deserves to be warned" very convicting! Absolutely loved this! Great job to everyone involved!

note to writers: mystery and obscurity only hold so much value in a story. eventually your audience has to know what tf you're getting at to enjoy it.
edit: if i have to scour the comments to find out this was a remake of a bible story i forgot long ago, then maybe i wasn't your intended audience. sorry bout that.
i would actually posit that that's kind of the great thing about youtube, and not just seeing a short on showtime or something. i didn't 'get' it at first really, but then i read the comments and fully understood, and that realization is part of the journey, and awesome. i feel like i not only saw a cool short, but learned/remembered something

For everyone confused about the plotline and giving up on this story, just look at the comments. I did, now I can wholly appreciate the retelling. In fact, think they did an excellent job 👌💯💯
If the short is confusing - that means the script is poor. Most lines are stupid, acting is awful. More importantly, the actors radiate hate and anger to each other, beats me why, the only explanation that comes to me is that the director sets the mood.

Agreed, stil better than watching the same funny cats videos over and over.
This short is top notch. Loved the build up and visuals were beautiful. I also appreciate how the story is told through character actions and natural dialogue instead of stiff narration and info dumps.
Not everyone caught the biblical similarities on the first watch. This is a solid modern interpretation of Jonah's story.
So I guess the message he gets at the beginning about how they are coming for him if he doesn't do what he's bid is God speaking, but that should have taken place before he got on board if you want to follow the text fully...
You must be a believer of Christianity to 'catch the reference', I am not. Nor am I Jewish or Muslim, Nothing in my beliefs sync with this story. Example, who in the name of the nine Gods of Terra in this Jonah you speak of.
