@@ericlawanderson Science fiction used to be a genre of ideas, not endless iterations of super-heroes prancing around in suits. Your work here shows imagination, spirit, complexity and humor. I really like being treated like an adult and allowed to fill in some of the spaces with my own imagination, as opposed to being force-fed the same old tropes. You should be making movies, not the current set of filmmakers making product, not art. I will do you one more solid. Read anything, anything at all by Jack Vance. If that doesn't make a zillion ideas for great movies burst out of your head, I'll eat my hat.

Or so goes the theory. A hot mass will cool by radiating it's energy to nearby cooler mass and so on until all energy is evenly distributed. In so doing, physical mass is also emitted into nearby low mass space. The theory was described in a short story by Isaac Asimov called "The Last Question". Fascinating story if you're interested in the topic.

  • @craigjohnson4302

I think most people missed the light-hearted point of this. Lufo is an artist at heart, but he is generally board by the life that has been dictated to him as, in sorts, an assembly line worker... doing the same thing day in and day out. So he attempts to inject a little of his creativity in the regimental work that he has to do... much to the chagrin of his boss (and possible relative). So, to not be interrupted, he goes off on his own to create the mural that he blueprinted earlier (which turns out to be the face of the moon). But, upon completion, he realizes that nobody is going to ever see his masterpiece. Disappointed he heads back to the pack, but, on the way, with the help of his blueprint paper/computer, he realizes that the proper placement of his masterpiece next to another planet (Earth) will create life and, ultimately, an audience for artistic work. So he does just that, again, much to the exasperation of his boss. As he looks back at what he's accomplished, he glows with pride, so much so that this glow could be interpreted as a halo... ergo, the angel that helped create life on Earth. Her greatest evolutionary step is when the first fish stepped onto dry land. And what was the first thing it saw? Lufo's masterpiece! Since then we've been so enthralled by this "work of art" that we created technology exclusively designed to visit it. An artist's ultimate acknowledgement. Conclusion: The more strongly an artist feels about his creative work, the more he will move mountains, or, in this case, planets to bring his work to and for the masses so all can appreciate and enjoy. (Also, a subtext moral to this story: Don’t let supposed authorities stifle your passion, as it could amount to more than you might have ever imagined.)

@@ericlawanderson I'm very thankful of your response. I didn't expect to get an exact tally, but base on what you relayed, it gives me an idea of which I'm not surprised. From my childhood to this day in every movie that I view, I haven't watched really it until I've sat through the very last credit, even though I'm, and usually am, that last person in the theater. I do this for two reasons. I recognize deeply trenched people and learn things I wouldn't have otherwise, AND, even more so, I have to pay homage to the inordinate amount of work that goes into these projects. Now days, even more so, the standard audience takes the making of movies for granted, especially those which includes superb CGI such as yours. Now I think that's partially due to the sheer amount of content that's being turned out these days. With all that being said, it can be quite ominous to be a stand out in this ubiquitous market, but you did achieve that without question. I compliment you on your stick-to-it-ness and a job well done. But that pretty much goes without saying based on all the awards you've received. It's a great idea and you implemented it well!

This excellently done and a great story. I especially like the use of light, the way Lufo is illuminated at times. Towards the end, when he finally goes back to the "portal" or whatever, and he turns around to look back...the light envelopes him again and one of those circle things with the alien text briefly appears around his head as if a halo. Finally, as the critter comes up out of the water and we hear Armstrong's voice (I watched every Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo flight growing up)...then as the view zooms in on the eye of the critter, the music...and seeing Apollo 11 heading towards the moon (unfortunately, backwards -- it wouldn't turn around to point the engine of the service module towards the moon until it was time to do the lunar orbit insertion burn)...it gets me every time. The only other thing that should've been caught was having the moon rotate counter to the Earth's rotation. The same "side" always faces towards us -- it's "tidally locked". However, later, as the several "info rings" began appearing around Earth, the moon is as it should be. Those technicalities aside, it's still an excellent short and it would be great to have a higher resolution version to watch.

I thought about it again a few days ago and the quixotically quirky spirit threaded through the entirety of the 16:38 minutes. I stumbled across it again a few minutes ago, queued it up, and listened as I added some extremely deserving praise for this small treasure. "lucy in the sky with diamonds" was simply his son's take on a nursery rhyme, everyone was sure it was about "lsd", lennon wrote another song called "because" while listening to yoko try to play beethoven's famous "moonlight sonata", he reversed the melody, cut it in half and used the finished product as the melody for his own song.
ideas can come from a myriad of sources, the brilliant part is knowing how to use these well studied technics to inspire your own creation, lennon didn't just pluck an idea out of thin air, he was always working on some process to flesh an idea out. he was always as inquisitive about the process as much as the final product.

It's because Hollywood writers are mindless sheep that have no original ideas.

@@GenXMetal_Head Actually, I suspect that it's not the writers that are at fault, but the suits in charge of expenses and the bottom line who clamp down with the death grip of cliche and repetition, in pursuit of a big payoff at the cost of originality. I know a few writers who write for TV, and oh the stories that never get told . . . because the money-spinning ideal audience of 16-25 year old males wouldn't like them (not enough guns and bare ladies). So instead of new, interesting ideas, we get re-makes not just of old stories, but American re-makes of (much better) foreign films instead (see "Cat in Order of Disappearance" with Stellan Skarsgard just now remade with Liam Neason as, I believe, "Cold Pursuit", among many others).

this has to be one of the most simplistic representations of intelligent design ive ever seen... i do, however, enjoy the wonderment of a child creator and how simple our universe really seems to be... beautiful

No question, a story for the ages; a story that should be told! I spent 35 yrs making motion pictures and television. I'm quite sure that this would and will be a noteworthy project. Please do not give up on the pitch, eventually someone with the clarity and vision will endeavor it's breath of life bringing it to the big screen. All in life, I find, is timing (lol). Long live Lufo!

Yes. What a great movie it would make. But then, maybe not.It is now a total masterpiece that any great artist would leave "be." Because it is so really complete with a stellar-conception of life itself but also so down to earth with lufo's mum telling him to get a move on.Similar to a young adolescent getting out of bed to go to school or work.
