IVF, TTC, infertility language.. What do all these acronyms & words mean?

- When my husband and I first started trying to get pregnant and realized it wasn't as easy as we thought it would be, I entered a whole new world of infertility by joining various TTC and infertility online support groups. And OMG... was I lost. It seemed like everyone spoke a different language with a million different fertility acronyms and names of hormones and procedures I just had no idea about. They might as well have been speaking Dothraki.
After being immersed in this world of IVF, infertility and TTC community for a while now, I think I've come to understand the fertility lingo a little better. Today, I walk through a list of acronyms in alphabetical order to see if I know all of them and if not, well, we can learn them together.

About me ❤
My name is Hellynn and I live in the US, but I've traveled to Korea (where I'm from) to undergo multiple rounds of IVF. Being 40+ and trying to bring children into the world is hard, but I also have diminished ovarian reserve (DOR). For those reasons, I am doing back-to-back rounds of IVF.
Navigating this world of infertility is definitely a challenge - a million new acronyms, hormones and protocols to learn - it's A LOT. So I thought I'd just talk about everything I've been learning for the women out there who are going through similar struggles. I'm also here to guide anyone who is interested in traveling to Korea for IVF, since it's more cost efficient with high success rates here.
I am treating this YT channel as my diary, talking about the ups and downs of my journey to motherhood so that one day, my babies will see how they were created... with fierce, enduring strength and love.

Thank you for sharing your journey! I'm 40 too and DOR and currently going through stims. My first round I froze 5 eggs and this 2nd round I'm hoping I get more eggs so I can follow through with the entire cycle. Unfortunately I have no received the proper education on this process from my clinic but I'm learning so much through YT and FB groups. Thank you for sharing and sending baby dust your way 🪄❤

The acronym I love to hate is AMH (because mine is low, or the doctor said this morning: "very very very very low", yes she said "very" 4 times) 😭

Have you heard of mini IVF? I think it’s best suited for DOR and low AMH based on quality over quantity belief
I started out with mini IVF and we decided to increase the dosage after a couple of rounds to see how I would react. I was able to get more follicles with a higher dosage though. Different for everyone!

Thank you! We froze sperm. One freeze session would make enough for 4 retrievals.
Was it okay to do another transfer in the cycle immediately after a failed transfer?

Yes. Doctor said we can go straight into another cycle. It all depends on what your mind is capable of handling

I wish you the best of luck. Ivf is very draining for your body. After my transfer I did alot of unconventional things that "could" help the implantation. Ate saltier food and 1 pineapple within 5 days. Dont know what it was but it worked because we only have 1 genetically normal embryo out of all we have. So dont give up.

@hellynn_j thank you. I don't remember what test it was called but due to low egg count they did an additional test to ensure the optimal time to do the transfer. Everyone body is different so this will let them know if you need extra shots before the transfer which increases the odd.
@@camvu290 Maybe testing progesterone levels? I will ask my doc.
@hellynn_j I think they biopsy the lining to see if it at the optimal thickness for the egg to attach when they transfer the embryo. Good thing I did it because I needed an extra day of medication for my actual embryo transfer.

I had 4 day ago 2d time 3 frozen embryo transfer but I don't have any syntom first time 2 embryo transfer but fail. I am so worried no bleeding yet
I think only 20-30% of women have implantation bleeding

I’m going through the same, I’m 26 yo and 10 DPT… it’s our first try and I already had 2 beta hCG blood tests done (one 8 DPT, one today) and even though it’s getting close to 100 the doc said it’s still not high enough. I’m so scared… it’s really hard to be patient and keep being positive without worrying.
I’m being treated at Cha Hospital too, but in Ilsan. Hope we’ll all receive good news soon! 🤞🏼❤️🩹
