Just as I’ve been hurt when I had it coming, or maybe just your typical fight with someone. I’ve never been to prison, but unfortunately I have done my share of jail time, of which a lot of that time I had to do was when my daughter was already born. Single mom here of 5, my oldest had to leave because of his addiction and even though I love him so much, I had to keep my other kids safe. I also need to say my oldest son is an adult, and his siblings are not. A couple of days ago he stole everything he could pawn, and emptied all we had in the bank. Christmas gifts, little things that were important to his brothers and sister, our tv, and cash. In trying to handle the magnitude, I have been telling myself we got Grinched, but he took all I had gotten my kids, that I had been working months for, he stole the first Christmas that I was going to be able to give them since losing their dad. I reported my son, but I have also mourned him, because even if he was years down the sober road and felt remorse or guilt, I cannot get past him taking away something like this from his siblings. I'm sure addiction sucks, but it hurts those who love the addict more.

I'm in active addiction because of I flipped my car 13 years ago and completely blew my back out. I just had 2 back to back surgeries in October for a spinal fusion. I got addicted to pain meds but it hasn't gone any further than that. BUT, I have shamedly put my husband and parents through hell. I left my husband of 27 years in April because I was tired of hurting him and I told him why. He said he wasn't ready to give up. I'm currently staying with my parents because of my surgeries and needing help going to PT and doctors appointments. I have PTSD from my wreck and so I can't bring myself to drive just yet. My surgeon has said it will take 9 to 12 months to see a difference and the best I can hope for is 80% difference. I am ashamed to say I have stolen a 4 year old bottle of Tramadol from my Dad a few years back. He had forgotten about it, but it still haunts me. It had expired years before and I had gone through all of my 30 day prescription of Dilaudid in about 20 days (180 pills) and was going through withdrawal. It feels like having the flu times 10 and I didn't have the money to buy them off the street. I no longer manage my own meds but it is still a big problem with those I love because my pain is horrible constantly and after a while pain meds can make your pain worse, but without them I am still in horrible pain, especially since the surgery.
I'm so sorry for rambling but I needed to say for your son and myself, I am SO, SO sorry for what you and the rest of your children are being put through. I'm also very sorry for the loss of your husband.
I feel like guilt is eating at him, he knows what he has done and in is drug brain he may be numbing himself enough just to function. I can speak from true experience, he feels great shame right now. But, neither his nor my ending has been written yet. God can turn things around for all of us. Again, I'm so sorry... Kim

I'm so sorry that you and your other children are having to go through this!! Addiction is very scary!! It is a confusing, sad, dirty, dangerous, manipulative disease!! Please know that this is NOT who your son is and there is hope!! However, it is no longer your responsibility!! Like you said, you have other children to protect! What he is putting you through and what he had ALREADY done to you is unacceptable!! I hope that you can create and stick with boundaries; not allowing him to take advantage of you or steal from you ever again! I would strongly recommend All-Anon!! If you give it a REAL shot, it WILL change your life!! You are NOT ALONE!! Al-Anon WILL PROVE this to you!! It's FOR families!! It will benefit each of you! I really hope you give it a shot!! You do not deserve what your son is putting you through! Unfortunately, more families now than ever are dealing with some form of addiction! Addiction does not discriminate!! Addiction is equal to evil!! It steals the souls of those who use it; morals and values go out the window. People start doing things they'd never normally do (such as steal from their families, sell their bodies, commit crimes)!! I hope you really consider Al-Anon!! And there is a way out!! But it'll ONLY happen when the addict hit THEIR rock bottom!! THEY have to WANT to stop!! Sometimes it takes many times for someone to actually "get it!"
I wish you and your family the very best!!

He didn't sniff it up his nose, he used needles to inject it into his arms. He also didn't blow through his credit cards & cash, he was blowing through hers. I've been sober from my own heroin addiction for over 4 years. Getting involved with a heroin addict that claims to be sober for 3 months is crazy. That first year of sobriety is like dancing on ice. It would be pretty easy to slip up. Throw in the emotions of a rocky relationship, it's all the justification in a broken mind to use again. I feel bad for this lady. I'm sure she thought she could help him. Unfortunately, nobody can help an addict but the addict himself. They will lie & manipulate & rob you blind. In active addiction, we lose the ability to make sane, moral & legal choices. Getting high & not getting dope sick is the only goal, 24 hours a day. It's insanity!

You obviously know nothing about opiate dependancy. Please, allow me to enlighten you. That amount is a normal amount, depending on what part of the country you are in. Some places, opiates are very expensive , and folks have no choice but to pay it, or be sick beyond anything you can imagine . So sick , you wish you would die so the pain and suffering would stop. 250$ is alot of money , but youd pay it to feel befter/ be well and able to function - Rather than being deathly sick, and in pain and suffering like you cant possibly imagine unless you had been through it. No sickness is worse. Ots like being on your deathbed, and you are nearly there when dope sick/ detoxing from opiates. Its way worse than bacterial toxins causing stuff to come out of both ends at the same time. Its like that multiplied by ten.
It starts out with the gods of this world, the docs - giving folks opiates and making folks dependant on them. And over time, you develope a tolerance that continues to increase indefinitely. You need more opiates to make you well and able to function as a normal person.
Which docs can't and or armt willing to supply the meds folks need once their tolerance is built up. So folks forced to go to the street for meds, which is super expensive , but readily available - thanks to the govs and cartels of the civy lies world flooding the streets with meds/ opiates. Drugs.

I am an addict and have done some dishonest and disgraceful things but that doesn’t mean because I’m an addict I shouldn’t have to face the consequences and that I didn’t know I could possibly face consequences. It’s not like an insanity plea where the person doesn’t know they are doing wrong so they aren’t held to account for their actions. This type of compassionate attitude towards addicts has gone so far where people never get clean because they always have the excuse “they are an addict” and everyone just gives them a free pass and treats them like a helpless puppy.

Addiction is not a disease. There is something called the “disease model of addiction,” but that means that around the turn of the century, there was a push to have addictions treated by medical professionals. Before then, it was mainly treated as a religious and/or moral failing, where the parish priest or your mother-in-law would come yell at you to “help” the addiction.
But the above does NOT mean that addiction is the same as a disease like diabetes, cancer, etc. There is an element of choice in addiction that does not exist in many diseases, and at the end of the day…it’s choice that fights or ends the addiction.

Having a brother that has been an addict for pretty much the entirety of the last 18yrs, and having been lied to at least a thousand times during that time, its pretty chilling to hear this guy describe what was going on leading up to shooting her and after he had shot her at 15:17.
Anybody who has spent any time around addicts doesn't need too much convincing that this guy is talking absolute sh*t when hes describing "his plan for leaving" and then what happened to make him shoot her.
I haven't ever suffered from any kind of addiction (which I am incredibly grateful for) and I know that my mental health is too strong to ever go down that path, especially after seeing it ruin both my brother, and one of my best friends brothers lives, but this guy is literally speaking with the exact same tone of voice and with the same selection of words to make what he did sound nowhere near as bad as it actually is, while also doing what he can to get sympathy because it wasn't his fault, its all down to his addiction, not the fact that hes a piece of sh*t.

My middle daughter was a heroin addict for 10 yrs. She's been clean for 8 yrs. The lies she would tell I think some she actually believed. I had been sober 15 yrs when she got on drugs. The only plus to me being sober was I knew I couldn't fix her. I beat stage 3 cancer 2 yrs ago and it was a cake walk compared to our journey with her. With cancer there's a plan and u can fight and maybe win.
For the last 5 yrs of her addiction we rarely saw her. She wasn't allowed in our home bc she would steal me blind. My ex had custody of her 5 yo son. I had her arrested 3 x for stealing. I never got her out of jail bc she was safe there. She never committed a violent crime and I've told her I'm sure she supported herself in ways I never want to hear about. I had made a decision to be there for my my other 2 daughters after my youngest told me off one night. She told me all I ever did was yell at her and her sister bc I was angry all the time. She reminded me they were in college on scholarships and deserved more of me...a better me. It changed everything. When my daughter decided to get clean it wasn't to get ppl off her back. She knew she was dying slowly. She got on suboxone and immersed herself in a 12 step program. She married a guy in recovery. They both got degrees and built a ew home. Best of all is we had back the great kid we knew. Musically talented kind giving and happy. Some days I cry bc my heart will fill with gratitude. She has her son with her and her husband has custody of his daughter.
If anyone is struggling ...it is possible to get clean. Sadly the way we fight addiction is expensive for families. They need more rehab that's for anyone.
I'm sorry your brother is still lost. You've done already what's best for your own mental health. I told myself daily that I didn't have the power to make her use or make her stop. Addiction owned her.
Today I live in gratitude. No matter where your brothers addiction Ieads him he will be free one day. Either by getting well or the drugs help him leave this world. Either way peace is found ....Sadly.
And you're right ....this guy is a killer 1st and an addict 2nd. He can't face that he is a POS. IM judging I know but I knew my kid would rob and lie but never kill. I saw her go thru withdrawals many x and she'd go thru that before being violent.
I wish your family the best.

AMEN! I just hit 10 years clean in September. I wouldn’t wish that pain/crippling self hatred on my literal worst enemy.
Addiction will make you do things you wouldn’t dream of doing before. I am very similar to this idiot, got hurt playing highly competitive athletics, had surgery, did PT but, still had pain/difficulties during the recovery process. Went back too early and got hurt again because I didn’t listen to the doc. Constant pain and swelling meant continued use of pain killers in order to try and perform. Pretty soon I was addicted to the meds and I was too embarrassed to admit it and ask for help let alone say the words out loud. There are things I did that I will never stop trying to makeup for but, I can honestly say, I don’t think I would have resorted to shooting my loved ones.
Using his addiction as an excuse for his crimes hurts every addict out there. People are already stigmatized and unfairly judged. They are dismissed as less than because they are just disgusting drug addicts who are not deserving of compassion or sympathy. This idiot makes all of us look bad, I absolutely hate it when people try and pull this. Addiction is a disease yes but it’s not a get out of jail free card. Addiction is both hereditary and environmental. Genetics is putting the gun in your hand but the environment with the people you surround yourself in is what pulls the trigger. Just like you learn in gun safety class, if you pull the trigger you are responsible for every bullet that is released from the chamber. It does not matter if you only intended to hit the person directly in your line of fire but not the person behind your target. You fired the shot, you are the one responsible for it.
So you may not be at fault for being an addict but you are still not exempt from consequences of your actions while being an addict. Its not an excuse, its a contributing factor yes but, that still doesnt mean you just walk away free and clear. No one forced you to pull that trigger, you still did that, so then you are the one responsible.

If I used pills today like I did 15 years ago $250 won’t get me out of bed.
A 30 cost at least $40 and I had to have at least 3 b4 I got up to piss.
    I use to do 30 to 50+ 30s a day.
I don’t use meds anymore but now I’m just a grumpy azzhole.
What I was doing was stupid but I had no idea what to do with my life after I broke my back. I never had used any type of drugs b4 this and I worked 7 days a week from daylight till dark because that’s what made me happy.
I was a hard worker and very driven so suddenly I’m paralyzed and I had no idea what to do with all that time.
I found comfort in pills. I didn’t feel happy or sad. I didn’t feel excited and I didn’t feel bad. Life was just a flat line somewhere between any high or low.
All I know is it made it where I thought I was managing life and then I had a kid and woke up and realized that I had to change.

I believe this guy was the unfortunate product of a heavy heroine addiction. I don't excuse what he did, but I feel pretty confident that this isn't something that would have happened if not for his addiction.
Drug and alcohol addictions change _everything_ about a person. Everything you once cared about, your morals, etc changes. The only thing you care about or think about is where and how you're going to come up with the cash to buy your next fix and you tell yourself that any consequences (that's if you even think about the consequences) can be dealt with later. Eventually you have lost total control of your life and your life becomes your addiction.
Unfortunately, two lives were destroyed here... because of drugs. It's really heartbreaking to hear.
