And if he fails to rotate, you will have great footage, but you'll never see it
pjdsa rotation is when the nose comes up and the airplane (hopefully) establishes a positive rate of climb

ImmortalSynn sorry but you're incorrect here. KLM does indeed have a dark blue stripe between the lighter blue and the white belly of the plane. Pascal ///M Power An A380 isn't that spectacular. A 747 screams while taking off, you can hear that in the video. An A380 makes less noise and takes off much easier due to the hugh wings. A 747 or Antonov 124 is pretty much the most insane take off you can imagine at SXM ;D
They say A380 has manoeuvre capability like no other plane, it can fly at encredible slow speed so despite the short runway perhaps the landings and take offs are still possible for A380? They never tried did they.
I wonder, can you really get that close to them planes still ? It's amazing.. I've watched so many videos of this airstrip.. its too cool!!! I hope to see it up close and personal myself.
Yes, it depends on the winds. The desired take off is the opposite way but it really makes no difference. When they're taking off the other way, they're landing from the end the camera was on. That's a trip, too. :)

You know that KLM doesn’t operate the 747 anymore, right? They fly to St. Maarten with A330’s and 777’s since a few years now.

Reminds me of when I lived in Bahrain in the 1970s and we would stand at the end of the runway and watch a Concorde take off right over our heads; particularly spectacular at night too.
I seen alot of these take off/land videos but I must say yours is the most dramatic.

Interesting as most aircraft land from over the sea and take-off in the opposite direction at this airport. It is an interesting experience landing here as the plane just seems to be getting lower and lower with no sign of the ground until it a few hundred feet from the runway. Not for those of a nervous disposition. The take-off is also interesting as the plane has to bank to pass between two mountains.

I love to sit in the MD-11 during take-off. I always buy the cheapest tickets and usually sit way back at the end, and the noise and vibration, (and the good acceleration too), is awesome! I usually use earplugs during the flight, but not during take-off. : )
OUT-FRACKING-STANDING!!!!! This goes on my bucket list! I would also need a bucket standing underneath the landing gear of a 747 as it flys over me at full throttle!!

I think what you maybe getting confused regards the runway length cpovey1 is that anyone traveling commercial to St.Barths,Anguilla and a couple of other nearby islands tend to fly to Sint Maarten first as it has the longest runway even if it is short by international standards in that Caribbean grouping.
