  • The next clip is from January 12th, 2001. We begin with the intro to Heat N of the Fourth Wars, which was won by X-Terminator 2, beating the unlucky Behemoth in the process. As the credits roll at the end, we’re told Scrum V Live is up next. (Gardening or sports - it was always something boring on afterwards.) In the teaser for the next episode, Jonathan Pearce tells us robots like Panic Attack, Aggrobot 2 and S.M.I.D.S.Y. will be battling it out for glory.
After the end of the episode, our first promo is for a show about people going off into the wilderness and trying to survive without eating each other. It’s called the Bare Necessities. Nice pun, guys. Look out for the nasty tiger and hypnotic snake while you’re out there.
Next up is a promo for Graham Henry’s Six Nations, in which Graham Henry goes for a walk around several countries and talks about sport. It looks as tedious as it sounds. I’m falling asleep just thinking about it.
Then - oh, God - it’s the Flytrap ident. This used to scare the shit out of me as a child, and I remember always stopping this tape early because I knew it was coming up. Fortunately, this tape only had one episode on it, so I didn’t miss out on anything… until many years later, when I discovered that there was about an hour of Cartoon Network on afterwards I never knew about.
Anyway, after a brief BBC Sport ident, Scrum V Live is on, and, credit where it’s due, I have to say the intro is pretty damn funny. If I’d seen this opening crawl at the beginning of Star Wars Episode VII, I would have been in tears of laughter. The tape is then interrupted halfway through the match by Cartoon Network.
