- The third wars were revolutionary. The contestants were becoming stronger and the program was so popular it was increased to 40 minutes in length. Gone were the Gauntlet and Trials and all that remained were the classic robotic battles. Also 8 contestants now fought it out in the arena. The familiar faces of Craig Charles, Phillipa Forrester and Johnathan Pearce remain in the spotlight. The 8 robots in the first Semi Final are Firestorm, Pitbull, Panic Attack, Thing, Big Brother, Mace 2, Chaos 2 and Trident.

arena spike is most honorable.
That arena spike was becoming a farce, interrupted so many good battles and Thing 2 were edging Panic Attack before getting toppled over

Damn it, Panic Attack vs Thing 2- two of my favourite teams going head-to-head. We never really got to see whether NIck Adams or Kim Davies was the superior driver either, because that _fucking_ arena spike disrupted the battle again! That was in NO way a legitimate KO by Panic Attack, it was pure fluke, so we'll never get to see if Kim Davies could have managed to fight back and turn the battle around.
"Acta est Fabula." - "The play is over." Another team robbed by the fucking arena spike. No fucking wonder they removed them altogether for series 4. At least Craig acknowledged it: "Thing comes a cropper on the spike." Panic Attack didn't win that, the arena did.
That little bit with Phillipa and Team Mace and the twinkling star was funny, especially when Phillipa glares at the camera and mouths words to the effect of "you got it upside-down you silly berks! And what the hell is with those shorts Little Joe Watts is wearing?!

Wow those spikes, they ruined so many battles.
That's why they were removed - the arena spikes were ending battles that could have been so much more interesting.
Peelioka: As much as I think the spikes caused many unfair victories in this series, I'll take them any time over the producers in series 7.
One of my earliest memories was seeing Thing 2 vs Panic attack on TV during the semi-finals.
The arena spikes were such a bad idea. Ruined so many fights.
I hope the people operating them felt like jerks.

Thing 2 were robbed by that fucking arena spike. Fuck that bloody thing.

God damn spikes. They ruined what could have been a great fight between Panic Attack and Thing II. Good thing they got rid of them after this series.
got to love the thing team - when the weight limit went up, most people layered on armour - they just added weapons!
The first two semi final matches were won by the arena spike. lol
Those spikes are such bullshit. If I lost a fight because of them the show would quickly have become unbroadcastable.
Nightmare would have been knocked away on impact anyway. Son of Whyachi was packing way too much power in those sausage grinder hammers. Plus, horizontal spinners have an advantage over vertical spinners in that their weapon can be used as a defensive measure too.
Those arena spikes are really annoying. All they do is rob us of a great battle!

Unlucky for Thing 2 but eventually, Panic Attack probably would have flipped them over and that'd been it
@andysido look i know you made that comment last year but its technicly a moningstar or a flail since it was on a chain a mace is on a riged frame and is more like a blunt axe

Oh boo hoo! The spikes! Guess what? The Battlebots arena was riddled with hazards that could overturn a robot, an no one bitched about that. You just have to be a decent driver and they aren't a problem
+Ginger Kennedy Thing is, those hazards tended to be clearly marked and were in clear, set positions. Those spikes just seemed to be in random positions that made little sense.
Pretty sure they dropped the piston later on too, right?
look i know you made that comment last year but I don't know what would make you suggest that is a morningstar. Technically a morningstar IS a mace, just with spikes - the weapon is definitely a flail.
Does anyone else find it ironic that it was Big Brother with the mace?
