- In the Chihuahua state of Mexico, isolated by some of the most savage terrain in the Americas, the Tarahumara Indigenous people continue to practise the running techniques that allow them to run hundreds of miles without rest. The word they use to describe themselves is Raramuri, meaning “runners on foot” or “those who run fast” in their native language.
They traditionally ran barefoot over long distances as a ceremonial practice and competitively. These races can last anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days without a break. This common practice once used to chase down animals to hunt, has morphed into a modern day sport for thrill seeking ultra-marathon runners. People from across the globe travel to Tarahumara territory to participate in the Caballo Blanco 80 km race.

@@blahblah2779troll trying to get a negative reaction out of people
@@usernotavailablecode is that codeword for “ I don’t have a better argument because he spit it out facts”?
@@blahblah2779 🥱 nah
@@blahblah2779What facts are you spitting out? Other than colonizer rhetoric…. Gold & guns what kind of machismo dumbass logic is that? Hiding behind a screen at that too…
It is without any doubt the most beautiful place to run 🏃 together with the tarahumara. Thanks for posting. I hope one day the security will improve and the crimes become a lot less. 🙏
Tarahumara member gabriel batista and 3 others ran at Leadville and placed in the top 10 Gabriel finished 4th at Leadville and 3 in the WS-100 in 1995 with better support he could have one, he finished in sandals, what a hero
Impressive work... congratulations for the documentary
Great that the race continued! Good to the local and state governments keeping the race alive and not caving in to fear and problems going on in another city. When you do that, everybody loses.
Nice one, it almost made me cry 😢
A beautiful people
Wow amazing! Thank you for such magnificent report.. I’m proud to be Mexican!!

Shine on you crazy diamonds 💎 ❤
Dios bendiga esta gente 🙏
My grandfathers mother was raramuri not gonna lie those corn and bean tortillas look good
Amazing 👍
Magnificent but certainly challenging landscapes to run in, all of the runners are full of running joy! May peace, positivity, joy, contructive actions and compassion be the guiding lights throughout Mexico and violence in the ancient history books. Nothing is ever gained from the ways of the Cartels, only trauma. The good life is full of joy, balance, peace, harmony and lots of fun running with friends.
My mother was Yaqui. She would speak of the mountain runners.
I don't know the narrator's name, but he made the doc very interesting.
Slice ❤👍👍

❣️
I am Tarahumara & even though Miguel is a name given to our men by colonizers I still would love the narrator to pronounce it Mig-elle instead of Mig-well. A little homework could’ve gone a long way.
Respect ✊🏿 Your people inspired me to wear huraches! The best shoe
these people are different they have different organs feeding etc they are unique and capable of beating anyone hence their life upbringing etc theyre already used to high altitudes
❤
🙏🙏🙏
While most in Mexico are mestiZos, the Raramuri are 100% Native of the land...👍🥰
Once upon a time there was a crazy French artist called Artaud who visited and wrote about having revelations there about 100 years ago… that was when the Tarahumara entered the Western literature as a spiritual culture
That's a very eurocentrist and francophile take, but you do you.
that is so sad
WHO'S IDEA WAS IT TO USE THE THROAT NOISE FOR BACKGROUND NOISE? WRONG SIDE OF THE WORLD PRODUCER!
Two things humans would die for: religion and spice. Religion is the reason they are motivated to run Everyday.
That just shows that just shows its the high fat diet because the Terra humara Indians have the exact same genetics as Mexicans they eat no fat in their diet
Tarahumara***
Mexican is a nationally not a race. And not all Mexicans are indigenous. And not all indigenous Mexicans are Tarahumara.
The diets are similar but not the same at all. Mexican cuisine has a lot more consumption of animals, & dairy products.
Additionally a lot of the “tortillas” are not made from native seeds. But from gmo seeds.
Their diet is almost exclusively corn and only because they were historically pushed away from fertile lands into dry valleys
Most Mexicans are Indigenous and have a high percentage of Indigenous DNA, even the ones with the slightest hint of Indigenous features, I'm not taking about skin color, but for some stupid reason they glom on the low percentage, 20% or 10% many times even less percentage than that of the rest of the DNA.
I was really into the video. Learning and watching these strong people from the sierra of chihuahua when u mentioned the narcos… I lost interest and turned the tv off.. disgusted 🤮 to my stomach
